There is Only One (Haku One-shot)

"Is there someone who... is precious to you?" "What do you mean?" A smile stretched across his face. "You'll see... in time."

It was a Wednesday. The grey clouds mocked Nami as she sat quietly beside a cold grave, her heart pounding out of her chest. The only thing that could be heard over the harsh wind was her soft cries, occasionly managing to find their way out of her mouth. Her black hair covered her face, as she edged closer and closer to the broken tombstone. She finally reached her shaking hand out, and touched the the bumpy rock. Her hand moved swiftly against it, as she planted a small flower beside the brown dirt.
"He always had a knack for seeing beauty in the smallest things... and I'm sure he wouldn't appreciate me putting a flower ON his grave." she whispered solemnly. She patted the soil down, then rubbed the small petals with care. A single tear streaked down her face, followed by more sobs. Rain started to fall, smothering the dirt, making it runny and wet. Nami scooped it up, and placed it in a small bag she had brought with her.
"This will probably make my flowers grow much nicer." she said laying down beside a forlorn tree, grasping the bag tightly. She closed her eyes, rain still falling, and drifted off without another thought.

Tap tap, Nami went across the small town. That is where she had first met Haku and Zabuza. They had traveled alot, and Nami hadn't suspected them right away of being rogue ninja.
She saw Haku picking some herbs in a small grassy area, Zabuza hovering over his shoulder with boredom and impatience. Nami was curious, for the boy looked alot like a girl. In fact, she couldn't tell the difference until she had been within a few inches of him. She gave him a confused look, and all Haku did was smile and laugh. Zabuza was confused as well.
"Ummm excuse me, but what are you doing?" Nami asked him meekly. Zabuza was very cautious, and started to move towards Nami. Haku stood up, and instead came closer to her. He handed her the small herb, and said, "Here. Look."
She took it without much thought, and examined it throughly. Haku sat back down, and continued to pick the herbs. Nami skidded closer to Haku, and she started to pick herbs and hand them to him.
"How can you tell the difference between the good ones and the bad ones?" she questioned Haku. He started an explanation, pointing to the different sizes of leaves, and the different shades of green. Zabuza finally started to trust Nami, and slipped away through the trees. She looked up as she saw him disappear through the thick bushes.

"Thank you very much." Haku grinned, his smile shining brightly. Nami nodded. She was just about to walk away, when she asked Haku a question.
"So... those herbs... what do you use them for?"
Haku gave her a funny look, then replied, "Mostly for healing wounds. Master Zabuza... let's just say he's the careless type."
Nami stared at the trees. She was assuming that the tall person that had been there before was Zabuza. Nami smiled, and said, "Oh well thank you. You've taught me alot today... I'm training to be a ninja, so this will probably come in handy. I appreciate it." Nami bowed, and he gave a soft chuckle. Then he turned away, and made his way through the trees.
"One more thing!" Nami cried out, "What's your name? I'm Nami of the Village Hidden in the Mist!"
Haku had no expression... or that's what she had to assume, for he was too far away to even tell if there was an expression. "I'm Haku. It was nice talking to you Nami. I do hope we can meet again... and we probably will."
There was a small ruffling sound, and Haku was gone.

When Haku had said that they would probably meet again... she didn't think he would mean so soon. It was only about a week before the incident on the bridge, where both had tragically passed away. That was when I found out that Haku was not only from my village, but he was rogue, and that the Black Ops were after them. Nami saw him and Zabuza in a large hideout, and Haku had looked much different.
"Haku... is that you?" she called out. Haku looked down and frowned. He came down from his hideout and muttered, "Shhhh..."
Haku looked cold for that one moment. It scared Nami, and Haku could tell. Then Haku started confessing stuff, like he could totally trust Nami. After hearing what he said, Nami could barely move. All that time, she had been talking to a criminal, a liar, and not to mention a murderor. But... he seemed so kind! Why was he like that?
Haku sighed, and trudged away. Nami stopped him by grabbing his hand. She looked deep in his eyes and mumbled, "When you say that you have someone precious to you... who is it?"
Haku smiled. "There is only one. Master Zabuza."
Nami let go, and mumbled "Goodbye" under her breath. She didn't tell anyone about what had happened between them, and she was happy that she hadn't. It was a good secret, and it was one she treasured. All she needed to remember to be happy, was what Haku had spoken.

Nami awoke soaked and cold. She rubbed her eyes in silence, then let a tiny smile stretch across her face. As she walked away from the grave, she remembered Haku's pretty hair and eyes, and the way he seemed to make everyone smile around him. So innocent... and so mysterious.
The grave was then alone for a very long time. Yet a single flower stayed there, blowing silently in the wind, shaping a hope for many seasons to come.
