Nothing seemed to work. All of us were trying our hardest to think of other ideas that might work. We even went on all the search engines to look for ideas. But there was nothing else.
Alex Gaskarth had contracted a horrible case of the hiccups. Right before a huge show. And they were not going anywhere. Every word he said was accompanied by a loud hiccup. It was too late to cancel the show. We needed to do something.
Right now, Jack was dunking Alex's head into a sink filled with ice cold water. We could only hope that it worked. If it didn't, none of us were sure what we were going to do.
I had been on tour with all of All Time Low for two months and nothing had gone wrong. Everyone had been healthy and happy. It was almost perfect, even. They were still the same guys that they were back when I knew them in high school. They were still idiots. But they were still my best friends.
Zack came up to me, sighing loudly in the process. "I think we need some kind of back up plan."
I laughed. "Well, obviously. But what are we going to do? We don't have back up singers."
"You're right." Zack looking around the small room, probably looking for something that would bring a idea to his mind. His eyes soon landed on me and a small smirk grew on his face. "I'll be back in a sec."
He ran over to the other side of the room and I must admit that I couldnt help but stare at him as he ran. Zack soon started to whisper something to Alex and Jack. I had no idea where Rian was, come to think of it. I didn't dwell on that long, more wanting to know that Zack was saying to the guys.
Soon, Zack ran back over to me. "Rian went out to get tomato sauce. I guess if you stick his head under that for a bit the hiccups will go away. For sure."
"How long does he have to do it for?"
"For three minutes, twenty times. It's kind of extensive."
I nodded. "But then the show will start really late. I don't think anyone is gonna be happy about."
Zack's smirk soon grew back onto his face. "You're right. That is why we need you to sing a few songs for us. A guest singer while Alex removes his hiccups."
"What?" I asked, my voice almost a yell. I was about to argue farther, not wanting to sing in front of such a humongous about of people, until Rian yelled, "I'm back! With the stuff!"
Everyone, except me, ran over to him. They poured all the sauce into the sink. Alex waved to them as he stuck his head under the sauce for the first out of twenty times.
Zack ran over to me and picked me up in his arms and pulled up on the stage, everyone following in his trail. He let me down in front of the front microphone. He smiled at me happily.
"So," Jack said, his voice amplified by the stereos all around, girls cheering at the sound of his voice, "as I'm sure you've noticed, Alex is not here. He's backstage with a serious case of hiccups." Jack paused as a flood of 'aw's rang through the crowd. "But until he's good, our dear friend Pam will be filling in."
I could feel everyone's eyes on me, waiting for me to say something. "Hello," I said, the word sound more like a squeak than an actual word. I cleared my throat and said, once more, "Hello," this time my voice sounding normal.
I looked at Zack, who gave me a small reassuring smile. The music soon started and I quickly recognized it as one of my favourite songs. I smiled grew on my face and I started to sing. Within minutes, it felt as if there was no one around me but the guys. It felt as if this was normal. Almost as if I was born for it.
We were half way through the seventh song and I was sure that Alex would be back soon. I could tell that the crowd wished I was him, despite how much fun I was having. I really did hope his hiccups would go away soon.
I was having so much fun singing that I didn't notice anything else that was happening around me. I simply heard Zack, Jack, and Rian play, not even realizing that they were there. Of course, every once in awhile I would look over at Zack, but that pure habit.
Suddenly, I heard the music stop. It was in the middle of the song. I quickly stopped my singing. The crowd was in an uproar, wondering what was going on. Then Zack's voice rang loud, saying, "So, I'm sorry, but I had to stop the music and do something really face. I hope you don't mind."
I raised an eyebrow, wondering what was going on. They never stopped during a show unless it was life or death. Zack started to head over to where I was standing, causing me to worry.
"What are you doing?" I asked. "Is someone dying or something?"
"Not exactly." He laughed. "But, I can't help but feel as if I will if I don't do this right here, right now."
"Do wha--" I stared, but stopped as Zack's face crept closer to mine. I was so sure that he was just about to kiss me, the one thing I had been waiting for ages for, when Alex ran onto the stage, hair and clothes stained red, yelling, "They're gone!"
Everyone broke out in cheers and laughter. Alex walked over to me, smile on his face, and said, "I'll take over from here."
I nodded, making my way away from the microphone. Before I was able to get far, Zack yelled, "Get back here."
I raised an eyebrow again, but obliged. He took me into his arms and finally kissed me.
Once we parted, I heard a loud 'aw' being said all around us. The loudest one was Alex as he spoke into the microphone. He elongated the 'w' longer than anyone around him. Then, all of sudden, he let out a hiccup.
Everyone either started laughing or getting mad that they were back. But I, as I heard Alex say "Sh" hiccup "it," along with everyone else moaning and groaning with displeasure, I could only think one thing:
Thank God for hiccups.

Sleep for days, come over, come over.
I won't make the same mistakes.
I'm dying not to hurt you.
