Chapter 2

Cupid's Arrow

We had been traveling for at least two hours before Blaise took an off ramp on the interstate, and I was disappointed to say the least when he pulled into a diner. The place was falling to pieces, the outside was rough enough; I knew I would not like the inside or the food for the matter. Blaise opened my door before I could protest our stop, forcing me to exit the car in a huff of anger.

"We're only getting a quick lunch darling," Blaise purred sensing my distraught emotions. He flinched as I turned my glare to him. The only people here that weren't truckers were probably tourists visiting from miles away just to see the giant ball of yarn, which was two miles down the road according to a road sign that caught my eye on the way in. Blaise grasped my hand, pulling me towards the doors. "I know it's not much, but I want you to eat. What kind of boyfriend would I be if I let you starve to death?"

I clicked my tongue, looking at the hostess whose face probably had paint on instead of make up. "You'd be the kind that lets me die in a diner instead."

He laughed, telling the hostess that we'd be in need of a table for two, and then tugged me along as she showed us our small table near the window.

"Now, this isn't that bad is it?" Blaise picked his menu up, scanning over the list quickly and quietly. I ran my fingers along my own menu, wondering how many germs were on the thing. It looked to be from the twenties, all the pages fading on the edges. With distaste, I opened it up to look at my options. Everything read edible, yet I wouldn't trust a place which couldn't even afford to properly fix a hole in the ceiling.

The waitress soon came to take our orders, and I didn't' even have to worry about what I was to order, for when she looked at me, Blaise opened his mouth. "She'll have a hamburger and a bottle of water." And that was that. I glared at him, turning my head to stare out the window.

"So you're ordering for me now?" My voice came off rougher than I had wanted, but I think the message had gotten through.

He folded his arms over his chest, almost arrogantly. "It's what you would have wanted, and I wouldn't trust anything else here. I know for a fact you don't like this place, but how do you think I feel? I want to feed you, but I don't want you to get food poisoning and die at the same time."

Frowning, I tried to keep my attention out the window. The air's too hot, even in the air conditioned room. I've been thinking too much, it's certain in my mind; but I think I've finally come to a conclusion on the matter at hand. For Blaise I'd do anything, I love him far too much than I probably should. But there is no limit on love, and perhaps that was the downfall of Romeo and Juliet.

My eyes are caught on a mini van rolling down the road, pulling into the gas station in the front lot. Out piles the children from the back, running around the car as their father goes to fill the tank, his eyes smiling with joy as he watches them. My eyes catch Blaise, who is watching the same scene outside, and I find myself thinking of Blaise inside the mini van, sacrificing his hundred thousand dollar cars just to drive the children to daycare.

The sound of Journey fills the small area around us, jolting me out of my stupor. Inside my purse my phone flashes green, but before I'm even able to glance at the name, Blaise snatches it from me. There's a look of disgust on his face, flipping open my pink phone. "Yes?" he asks.

"Blaise," I hiss, grabbing for the phone. "Give that to me, it's my phone."

He waved me off, turning his head away from me entirely. "Well I don't think she really wants to talk to you. And I don't think I really want you calling her anymore." He's silent again, not giving me a moment's glance. I already knew he was up to no good, he didn't have to try and pretend everything was okay. "On that note, let me tell you how pleasant it was to arrive at your house and find your drunk hands all over my girlfriend. Faye is a good girl and she does not need some drunk little boy pushing her to things she doesn't want."

I clenched my jaw and held my tongue; my feelings of anger were diminishing, quickly replaced by the feeling of guilt which resided in the pits of my chest. Staring at Blaise, who refused to even acknowledge me as he made threats over the phone, I felt as though I had so much to make up to him. I wasn't very appreciative, yet he would wait for me, he would forgive me for what ever crime my heart held.

Standing, I walked over to him and stole the phone right from his grasp, closing the cellular device and ending the call. Sitting down on his lap, I hugged him tightly, stealing a kiss from his god like lips. "I don't need any food," I murmured.

"But you didn't even eat breakfast darling." His eyes showed the excitement he felt now with me so close, yet he tried to remain his cool exterior when he was in the public's eye. His fingers brushed against my cheek bone, tracing the outline of my face. His heart was beating fast, my hands resting gently on his chest.

Shaking my head, I stood up and pulled him out of his chair. "We'll stop somewhere else later."

Pulling out his wallet, he threw more money than was probable necessary down to the table. I grabbed his hand as we walked out to the car, climbing in our own separate side. Buckling myself, I gripped the fabric of the safety belt. Chewing my lip, I closed my eyes and took a deep breath before leaning over the center counsel, kissing him roughly on the lips. "Blaise, I love you."

His eyes fluttered upward behind his lids, a groan escaping his mouth. "You can't say that enough darling." His eyes locked on my face, his hands now on my neck, cupping my face to his. "I love you."

His skin was so warm on mine, I flushed at the proximity of his body against mine; the touch was nothing like Travis's. Travis was rough, trying to hold me to him like I would fly away if he were to let go. Blaise held me with such care, caressing my skin like a thousand kisses of sun light brushing lightly against my delicate skin.

He soon released me, letting our eyes drift apart slowly. The car roared quietly to life, the wheels turning quickly as the reels in my mind began to spin as well. My hand snaked out from my body, grabbing Blaise's hand in my own. Although his hand was twice as big as mine, I smiled at the warm connection we now held. I loved the feel of his touch, the warmth of his skin against my own.

The time passed slowly, the clock on the dashboard rarely changing. Despite his lack of passion towards my favorite band, the tunes flowed through the speakers as we drove down the open highway in silence. My head bobbed up and down as I tried to stay focused in the growing hours of the morning. The heated air was locked firmly outside as we sat in the car with the air conditioning blasting on ourselves.

My head hit the glass as I let myself slip into my deep unconscious, the crack sending me up into an upright position. I furrowed my face into confusion, looking out the window realizing that we were no where close to home any longer, for I had no recognition of the area. Glancing at Blaise, I noticed his bemused eyes staring forward at the road before us. Reaching up, I wiped a stray hair back out of his face. I'd have to have him get a hair cut again soon, he was getting rather shaggy. "Did you hurt yourself?"

Rubbing my head, I let out a little laugh. "Hardly, I only startled myself."

I smiled, and was thoroughly surprised that Blaise's lips were on my one. I threw my eyes open to look at him in disbelief as he pressed his face against my own, his warm moist lips massaging my own. Gasping for breath, I opened my mouth and kissed him back with the same passion he gave me. No boy had every kissed me as Blaise, with the same passion and fire. The fire was diminished quickly as Blaise released me, sliding back into his seat to drive the car properly. I was too satisfied with his actions to scold him for his reckless driving.

"What was that for?" I smiled, touching my lips which were still plump and moist. They seemed to tingle from his kiss of magic.

He grinned like a wolf, turning to wink at me. "What? I can't steal a kiss from my beautiful little Faye? I must admit, I get pleasure out of such things."

A comment like that would once have sent me off the handle, mad with rage for Blaise making it seem as though he were using me. But logic was now on my side. If I were to be mad at him for that, then I'd have to be mad at myself; I enjoyed every inch of him as he did of me. "May you steal another then?" My school girl giggle filled the car, sending Blaise's eyes burning with passion.

I was not surprised by him lips on mine once more; the kiss may have even been better than the last, ourselves already warmed up to the habit. What I didn't expect was his hand on my chest, holding me tightly before he was forced to grab the wheel once more.

"We should just stop right here so I can have my way with you." Blaise was groaning with his frustration growing. All I wanted to do was touch him, yet it was probably driving him insane. "Yet I could never bare the thought of doing that to you here in the car, especially in the middle of nowhere. No, the bed will much better suit my darling." He purred in delight as my fingers reached over to stretch against his thigh.

"Should I stop playing with you then?"

I giggled as he took up my hand and held it in his own, watching the road with a smile. "Only if you don't want me to pull this car over right now."

With a sigh, I kept ahold of his hand. "No more then." Looking out the window my eyes caught the colorful sign for that of an amusement park, much like the one my friends would visit every summer, like the park where I was first proposed to, and I knew in my heart that was where I wanted to go. I could show him how much I really did love him, and only him.

Pointing out the next sign we passed, I smiled to Blaise with delight. "Can we stop there please Blaise? We could find some food there, and ride the Ferris wheel! Wouldn't it be fun, a nice break from this dreadfully long car ride!" I squeezed his hand, smiling as he shook his head, taking the next exit.

"You know you can have whatever you want, and if it's a trip to the amusement park, then so be it," Blaise smiled. The sun shone brilliantly against his skin, making him glow like the god he should have been. He was a regular Adonis, my own knight in shinning armor. My heart was going a thousand miles a minute as I dreamed of how I wanted him to touch me, to love me.

He pulled into the small amusement park's parking lot, staring at me with a smile. The lot was filled with cars which were probably already sitting in the sun for hours, too hot to even touch at this point. There were families all around us, enjoying the warm summer day as they strode towards the entrance or towards their cars, preparing to go home for the day. Before I could even reach for the door handle, he was there, holding it open with a grin.

He offered his hand, hoisting me out of the hot leather seat. "Where to first mi 'lady? The merry go round?"

Blushing, I wondered if I would ever be to him what he was to me, perfect. "You think they have one here?" I sounded as giddy as a child on her first visit to the park, and in my heart I felt in beating out of control. He winked instead of answering, picking me up and tossing me around his back. Squealing with delight, I latched onto his neck as he held my legs. "This wasn't what I had in mind," I giggled.

"Yes, well," he hoisted me slightly higher on his back so that I was resting on his hips, "This is like a merry go round ride in a way." I giggled like a school girl, nipping at his neck. His groaning was drawing more attention than I desired from the surrounding groups of people. "My little kitten, what am I going to do with you? You're being very friendly today."

Smiling, I hugged him tight before sliding to the ground to stand by him in the admissions line. "Is it wrong to show the one you love affection?" He cupped my face kissing me tightly on the lips, murmuring words of his own affection. We held each other, merging our faces into one. We probably could have stayed like that for a much longer time if it weren't for the obvious sound of coughing coming from behind us. Blaise licked my face before letting me go and opting for wrapping an arm about my waist. Looking back I saw the cougher staring rudely at Blaise and I, yet there was no anger from my own self as I saw the two children by his side. I couldn't help but picture Blaise in his place, yet I'm sure Blaise wouldn't stop at coughing. The thought of him with his razor sharp claws appeared in my mind.

Tugging on his hand, I looked up to him with a smug little smile. "Did you eat a little bird kitten?"

"Why do you keep calling me that?" I pursed my lips, yet held onto that bright smile that I couldn't seem to disperse of.

Blaise chuckled as he paid for our entrance and guided me through the revolving bar leading inside the amusement park. Latching to his arm, we walked through the small park together. Blaise held me close to his body as we passed other people, his possessive side glowing.

Looking up at the stand of balloons, I pulled Blaise over and pointed to the bunch. Abiding by my wishes, he paid the vendor several bills, taking a bundle of the helium filled orbs. With his eyebrows knitted together in excitement, he handed them to me before pulling me down the pedestrian filled path which led to several attractions including a tall haunted house, as well as a few roller coasters.

"You never answered my question," I mumbled, pulling him aside to purchase some cotton candy for myself. I had only a few dollars left, and then I'd be totally dependant on Blaise. The thought of finding a job flirted through my thoughts, yet the prospect of working held no interest for me. Why work for minimum wage when I had a man who could support me for eternity? Blaise cared far too much about me, yet I no longer held any complaints.

He smiled, pulling me over to a line which was indeed for the merry go round. He wrapped his arms around me, holding me as he stole some of the candy for himself. "I thought you would have figured it out already darling, but I suppose I could tell you. It's because you've been as playful as a kitten today, nipping at me every chance you've gotten. I can't remember a time when you've been so feisty with me."

Blushing, I moved with him in line as we got on the ride. It was not as fancy as other parks, yet this ride still glimmered in the sun as the metal animals moved up and down in the circle. The hundreds of light bulbs around the ride flashed as the chimes began their slow cords. I dragged Blaise to the pink horse, making him sit on the rather ugly green one next to it. He was kind enough to take my balloons as I situated myself on the ride. Glancing at Blaise, I was surprised to find him watching me, smiling as he did so.

Blowing his a kiss with my hand, I blushed and looked away. With just a look he could send butterflies fluttering in my stomach. The ride went fast as we sat on our horses traveling around the circle. As we exited the ride, I stole the balloons from Blaise, letting one go. We stood there watching it flutter away into the peak of the sky, dwindling in size.

"Was there any point in that?" His amused expression turned to me, smiling with tender care.

Grinning, I shook my head and opened my hand, releasing the rest of the bundle. "No, it's just so fun, letting one's balloon go. I suppose you're the type of person who would keep it until it was flat. But isn't it far nicer to let them do what they want, fly away until they pop."

"Blaise, can we go on the Ferris wheel now? Then we can go home." I smiled at him, tugging his arm in the direction of the giant spinning circle.

He kissed my cheek, rushing forward only to pull me along instead. "Anything you want."

As we got onto the ride, I smiled with excitement. My heart was trembling, and I was worried it would suddenly fail on me; too exhausted from running fives times than it should. Everything seemed to be in a haze, my mind blocking out everything but the one thing my eyes were focused on, Blaise. He sat beside me as the car began to trickle upwards towards the heavens. I gripped his hand as he gripped mine.

Closer to the top, I looked out over the car's edge, the horizon at my feet. Miles upon miles of forest stretched out towards the sun. That yellow orb hung there silently, and I wanted to reach out and pluck it from where it hung. The sky was a canvas of nature, colors mixing and melting, fighting for dominance. The only oddity was the radio tower, a rod of metal from where the green earth grew.

Closing my eyes, I leaned against my mate in satisfaction. The word was on the tip of my tongue. Perfect. "Blaise?"

"Yes darling?" His arms curled around me, holding me just under his head.

I bit my lower lip, finally opening my eyes. What I saw was love; nothing more would ever feel more complete. "Will you marry me?"

One way or another, one of us isn't walking out of this room.
