Tish and I haven't talked to Danny in about a week now. School was coming to a close, and my mom and stepfather were having some serious arguments lately.
So, I guess you could say, that life was far from perfect or normal.
"Rach! Time to go!" Tish called from down my staircase at home.
"I'm coming!" I called back gathering my few school essentials and headed down the staircase but stopped when I passed my mother's bedroom. I heard her yelling and put my ear to the door.
"Don't talk to me like that!" My mother yelled, at my step-father.
"Whatever. You just need to calm down." He replied, and I could hear him walking towards the door.
"You just need to explain to me, why this bill says one-thousand dollars!" I could hear my mother's voice break, "We don't have money to waste like that." I heard my mother sob.
"I'll get the damn money." Kyle replied, annoyed.
"RACH!" Tish yelled, impatiently. I jumped, startled, and quickly moved away from the door and jogged downstairs, trying to block out my step-dad's rude ways.
"About time." Tish's raspy voice groaned.
"Sorry, I got side-tracked." I replied with a small smile.
"If we are late, I'm blaming you." Tish said with a joking smile, and we headed off to school.
We weren't late, and had around half an hour until class. Tish and I were sitting in the court-yard area of the school and Tish was trying to write a new song and I helped.
"What about...'The sky is falling...And it's early...in the morning...But it's ok somehow' instead of 'the sky is falling...i'm falling too...but it's okay now.'" Tish asked me, biting the eraser of her pencil.
"Oh, that's good, but for the chorus make it 'I'm better off everyday' instead of 'I'm better off anyway'. It flows better." I added.
"Great thinking." She said, quickly jotting down her notes.
"I like it." I said, after she quickly sang what we had.
"Really?" Tish asked. "We make a good team. I promise whenever I get signed you are so going to be famous with me." She grinned.
"Thanks, the perks of helping an upcoming superstar." I said jokingly.
"Nice to know your not using me." She joked back.
All of a sudden, I heard muffled yelling for the second time today.
Tish and I turned our heads to where the sound was coming from to see Danny and Rena in a heated debate.
We really couldn't hear what they were saying just bits and pieces.
Danny's face was red and he put both his hands, instead of one, in his hair, a sign that he was angry. Rena had her small arms crossed in a sassy manner and her hip pushed out, she was fingering her hair, yelling back.
Tish and I quickly turned our heads back. TIsh looked satisfied, and me, being the concerned...well nosy friend I was, wanted to know what was going on.
"This is just the best morning: a good song, and seeing Rena and Daniel fight." Tish said, satisfied, taking a sip from her water bottle.
I know you've probably noticed how I still called Daniel, Danny. But when talking to others, I say "Daniel" because I still am mad at him, but in my heart and head I know he's my best friend still and he still gets called Danny.
I just nodded, unsure of what to say, and looked down at the table. An awkward silence occurred with Danny and Rena's fight still going on.
About five minutes later, Tish and I started back talking and it suddenly got quiet where Danny and Rena were fighting.
Tish ignored this fact and continued talking to me about this new guitar she wanted.
"Rach? Tish?" A familiar voice asked, standing in front of our table.
We jerked out heads up to see Danny and surprisingly he didn't have Rena attached at the hip.
"What do you want?" Tish sneered.
Danny seemed nervous as he said this,
"Rena and I broke up."
And that's when the bell decided to ring.
