He was the most beautiful boy Hanna Crabtree had ever seen.

Scratch that. Not just the most beautiful boy...the most beautiful person, period.

For as long as she could remember, the mirror image of this boy had appeared in all of her daydreams and even some of her night dreams.

She had been sneaking peeks at him all day. Go figure that he was the one person working on this tour that hadn't chatted her up at some point; Hanna always had to have things the hard way.

An opportunity had presented itself through an acquaintance and Hanna had chosen to work behind the scenes on this tour because she had never given a crap about American Idol in her life. She'd never even seen one episode in all the years it had been on; how easy would it be to just focus on her work and do the best job she possibly could, without the slightest hint of emotional turmoil, all the while enjoying the freedom of the open road and the thrill of waking up in a new place every day?

As it turned out...not so easy. Here it was, day one and she was already all aflutter over some boy she didn't even know. Guys like him were born with girlfriends; she already knew how stupid she was to be this way, but she just couldn't help it.

She peeked around the corner at him, her breath quick, her racing heart in her throat, her stomach full of knots.

How badly she wanted to touch his dreadlocks that seemed to go on for miles, to run her hands over them over and over again, to feel them brushing against her skin...

How badly she wanted to reach her fingertips up and trace those lips, those full, beautiful lips. How badly she wanted to press them to her own and to feel those lips everywhere.

And the eyes...she didn't even want to get started on the eyes. Even from that distance, she could see how blue they were. Like the sky on one of those perfectly clear spring days that only come about once or twice a year. The one moment she had looked into them up close had practically killed her.

How am I going to get through this? she wondered. She had to talk to him...this was getting to be just too damn awkward for her already!

She gathered her wits as best as she could and went around the corner, heading his way. How hard could it be to say a simple, "Hi, I'm Hanna Crabtree"?

She could do this. She just had to stay calm.

She was in the center of the room and he was looking at her!

She was suddenly caught off guard by somebody else approaching her.

The man was hot. He was considerably taller than her and look like a true rocker. And he clearly had the charm and confidence of a dirty rock n' roll boy.

He seemed nice, this David Cook, and she looked forward to spending more time with him during the tour, but she just had to do what she had set out to do, before she lost her nerve!

After parting ways with David, she saw that the dreadlocked boy had disappeared.

"Damn it!" she whispered to herself.

Oh well. She had the whole tour to introduce herself...but how nice it would be if she could be spending time with him at that very moment instead. She would just have to wait.
