My muscles tensed and then released as I sprang to the next roof top. My destination coming into view.
Almost there.
Teeth snapped at my ankles, increasing my speed. Buildings and tress passed in a blur and mixtures of colors were created. I closed my eyes, focusing on the fluid movements of my legs. I did not need to see where I was going, I knew the way.
Tossing my head I sent my ebony locks into a flurry behind me.
I didn't have much time. Urging my feet to speed up, going faster than I had before, I full out sprinted the last 100 meters.
Immediately I skidded to a halt, my face only a few inches away from a raven haired boy's. A tiny grin came upon my face then quickly vanished as I let out a exasperated stream of air toward my ever pestering bangs.
"Time?"
He smirked at my futile attempts to move my bangs with my breath and playfully ruffled his fingers through them reviving their casual disarray.
"Well, you beat her by a long shot," He said smoothly then turned his eyes on something behind me.
"Um, you might want to-" He started before a body crashed into my knees knocking me onto my back with my legs resting on something soft. I looked curiously down at the culprit underneath my knees.
"Nice of you to join us, Keira," I shot at the black furred wolf.
"Is it just me or are you getting slower?" I teased poking a finger into her side.
Ha Ha, your hilarious. I just...tripped is all. She crawled herself our from underneath me and quickly stretched then shook the dust from her fur.
"You tripped everyday this month? What are you a newborn pup?" I haughtily teased her.
"Alright, be nice," Sasuke scolded playfully as he quickly tugged my hand, bringing me to my feet.
Keira growled, nipping at my arm. Being unsuccessful at chomping off my arm Keira simply plopped down onto her haunches and glared at me. Well as much of a glare as a wolf could give. Suddenly I remember something.
"So what was my time?" I asked bouncing on the balls of my feet anxiously. Sasuke just shook his head at my pitiful excitement, then fished a stopwatch from his pocket. Tossing it in my direction I quickly snatched it and glanced at the numbers.
00.05.004
"Seriously?" I just stared at him. Watching to see whether or not he tampered with the device.
"Seriously," Was his simple reply. I quickly checked to see if he told the truth. Finding that he was being honest I quickly flopped back onto the ground dramatically.
"UGGH!"
He just looked down at me with one of his dark eyebrows raised.
"So close to five seconds!" I moaned in annoyance. A long minutes passed.
"Shadow?" I heard Sasuke call my nickname. I groaned with my eyes shut and being to aggregated at myself to vocally say words I simply talked telepathically.
What?
He just rolled his eyes at me. I know he did. I didn't even need to look into Keira’s thoughts to see if he did. But I could here it in his voice.
"You do realize that you did just run three miles in almost five seconds."
Keyword: Almost
No I was unaware. Thank you for informing me kind sir.
Sarcasm one of the beautiful aspect of my personality. I heard him turn around and open the door that we had been previously standing in front of.
"Come on. Before we get attacked by the masses." He once again pulled me up from the ground and led the way through the many halls of the Ninja Academy.
Next Friday. I swear I'll get five seconds next Friday.
I sat down in a seat to the left of Sasuke, next to the bay windows of the classroom that only had a few students in it besides ourselves.
I heard Keira’s lean body plop down under my desk her fur bushing against my ninja sandal-clad feet. Laying my head into my palm I calmly looked out the windows where sunlight poured in, reflecting off my deep purple eyes. Minutes passed and students began filling in all at once it seemed.
That’s when the chaos started. Almost every girl in the class, except the few with dignity rushed to take the open seat to Sasuke's right.
Wait, few what am I talking about it's only me and Hinata who aren't cat fighting with the other girls for a stupid seat.
I sighed in annoyance, waiting for the battle to end. Who won the seat next to Sasuke? I really don't know I don't feel like taking the time to look. Probley Ino from the close sound of her ever blabbing voice.
Time for battle two. Battle for the seat behind me. Most of the male population in the class flocked to that seat. It was the one angle that I could not glare at them at. The one seat where they could sit and their eyes could crawl all over my body. One of the things that pissed me off, being watched and not being able to look back. I mean, I can't exactly turn around in my chair and glare at someone an entire class period. Iruka-sensei might get slightly angry with me, but Sasuke refused to move to the back row where no one could be behind me!
Something about him not being able to hear, or maybe it was he couldn't see the board. Either way.
Then I felt it, the odd tingling, crawling, nerve-wracking sensation on my skin. I glared out the window in annoyance.
Keira. Do something please. Whining. I've reduced myself to whining. Curse Iruka-sensei for walking into the classroom! Curse his vigilant eyes!
Pft. You deserve it. She just snorted at me her eyes gleaming up at me from under the table.
I hate her sometimes.
I just sighed again. I seem to be doing that a lot today.
Oh, battle three has started. This one is amusing. The dirty looks battle. I dare not call them glares, they are pitiful excuses for trying to burn a hole through someone with your eyes. So here’s how this battle goes:
1. Girls give "the look" to chicks who sits next to Sasuke, one of them being me; but one menacing death look will focus all their eyes on the girl to Sasuke's right.
2. Girl to Sasuke's right gives "the look" back at them.
3. Boys do same to the guy behind me. Too frightened to stare angrily at Sasuke, that could end badly.
4. I glare at any guys who even dares to stare at me until they all turn around.
5. And finally Sasuke gives death glare to the guy in the seat behind me, who is currently mentally undressing me. Scaring the crap out of him to stop looking at me for a few minutes after Sasuke turns back to the front of the class. Sasuke's just a little bit protective.
But no worries five minutes later I'll be tortured by a pair of roaming eyes. Again.
Who wins this daily war at the end. Hm...no one.
I groan, lying my head on my folded arms atop the table.
Time passes and I slightly lift my head to look at the clock. Class should of begun ten minutes ago, that's odd. I look around noticing two people missing from the room. Our sensei and a certain blonde haired troublemaker. That can only mean one thing.
Naruto was thrown through the open door of the room. Iruka-sensei storming in face flushed yelling at the boy who obviously wasn't paying much attention. Iruka-sensei growled in aggravation telling the class that we would be, once again, reviewing transformations. Great, another pointless lesson on something that I've mastered years ago.
The class lined up at the front, each student mumbling their complaints until it was their turn to transform into our sensei.
This is so ridiculous. What did Uzamaki do anyway? Glancing into his mind the first thing that flashed huge in his thoughts was a picture of the side of the Hokage Mountain. Each face marked with paint. I groaned.
He didn't.
Didn't what? Sasuke's questioned me through the connect that I put between us. He must of heard me. Sometimes, I hate it when he does that. Well it's my fault anyways, I was the one who made the mental connection so that he could easily contact me should he feel the need to.
I was born with this strange ability to enter the minds of not only animals; which was a common trait in my clan but the minds of humans. I can't not control them like I would be able to with animals, but I know what they are thinking and could look into their memories if I wanted to but most of the time I leave those alone. I do have morals about my ability. I cannot enter the mind of someone who I've never met before. I also don't need to know their name, just to see their face in person. So, if I've seen a stranger on the street that is sufficient enough.
I sent the picture of the mountain to Sasuke and he just shook his head mentally in disappointment. Disrespect.
Then I spaced out, like usual.
Suddenly, an elbow went into my side as Iruka-sensei looked at me to come and do the transformation. Calmly I walked forward and placed my hands into the rightful sign. I closed my eyes my chakra gracefully creating a ribbon around my body in a lavender color. Smoke rose around me and I opened the dark eyes of my sensei. My transformation happened in the span of my blink.
Iruka-sensei’s eyes scrutinized my transformation. Looking for any source of error, when he found none he smiled widely.
Perfect, as to be expected Kaida. He praised so only I would hear.
"Well done, Shadow,” A whirl of gray fire quickly burned away my Iruka illusion, leaving myself standing. The other students as usual in awe, they usually were to anyone who had talent. Well basically me and Sasuke.
Why did he call me Kaida, then Shadow you might think? Well, you see, someone is looking for me. When I was young a man came and murdered most of my family. The Okami-Uchiha clan. It was the day after the Uchiha clan massacre. But to fully understand you must know the origin of my clan.
We are not the Uchiha clan. When the clans first originated Uchiha Madara, the founder of the Uchiha clan, found a man and his wife on his doorstep. They had no recollection of who they were, nobodies from a city that had been destroyed, along with their family. They had enormous power and were immediately welcomed into the Uchiha family. The husband, his wife, and later their family became a strong ally of the Uchiha clan. As a sign of appreciation and because they were so close the husband decided his family surname would be Okami-Uchiha since they did not know their original one. To difference ourselves from the Uchiha we added Okami, wolf because of our connections to wolves. At the age of ten each member of our clan receives a "Wolf Guardian" of sorts. They are extremely loyal, strong, and wise and stay with them until the person dies. The two clans together were a wonderful team. Their families grew up together, building an unbreakable alliance between the two clans.
After the Uchiha clan was massacred, the danger of attacking the Okami-Uchiha clan was drastically decreased. There was no longer the Uchiha clan to fight alongside them. That being so they were attacked in the early morning after the Uchiha clan massacre, while everyone was exhausted from grieving and unprepared for a battle. Most were slaughtered in their sleep, women, men, children, babies, even pregnant women were killed. When the sun had risen almost the entire clan will murdered, all but two children. Myself, Okami-Uchiha Kaida and my baby sister Okami-Uchiha Yuki.
I'm not sure what happened but Keira said that I had tapped into the power of the great wolf demon, Rollin. He is who all of our wolf guardians are descendent from. Which is why they are so powerful. He is more powerful then even the Tailed Demons combined, but he is free to do and help who he pleases. He is evil nor good but he protects the Okami-Uchiha clan. He was furious when wewere attacked, as was I so our anger fueled our combined powers.
So it is said that on that morning he had given me some of his power so that our clan would not die out and I had driven away the murderers.
This being so, many believe that I have control over this demon. That is a complete lie. The Great Rollin can give power to me but I do in no such way control him. Knowing that I am strong, one of the strongest when my clan was alive, which is something to brag about, they are hell bent on capturing me for my powers. That is why so few know my real name; Kaida, because until I am ready to destroy the murderer of my clan I do not wish to be confronted. So, I go by my middle name, Shadow, to most. When I can harness my clan's full power and work side by side with Rollin, then the world will know who I am. Until then I wish to remain a simple ninja of the leaf.
I lightly touched the thick steel band around my upper right arm. The band signifying someone as a Okami-Uchiha. Made from Rollin's fire, given to you when you first meet your guardian wolf.
I silently padded to my seat, gazing silently out the window at the busy village until Iruka-sensei finally dismissed us for the day.
