I had just finished digging the whole in the ground for Jeb’s body out in the forest. It was a really morbid place for a grave. The trees cast huge shadows everywhere and it was silent except for the occasional caw from the crows and ravens. Jeb wouldn’t have wanted to be buried like this, but as it was we couldn’t burn the body or have it professionally cremated or buried because it would draw too much attention. Questions like: what happened? will you be alright on your own? and can I do anything to help? would be asked to often until suspicions would be raised and fingers would be pointed. This was the only way to respectfully put him at peace and still be safe.

Ivy and Ellie stayed home and refused to see Jeb’s body and I didn’t blame them. I was a little weary of leaving them alone with Jeb’s murders but Ivy seemed confident in her ability to handle the situation, and I trust her.

I pulled Jeb’s body out of the trunk and laid it by his grave. He was so pale, corpses are usually pale, but this looked different. Forget it. It probably just seems different because its Jeb. But I kept pondering that thought. Abnormally pale for the dead? Was there such a thing? Come to think of it, how did he die anyway? The body didn’t have any bullet wounds, and it wasn’t beaten. It looked as if he bled to death but he didn’t have any cuts. I looked closely at his face, then turned his head form side to side, and noticed something on his neck. On the right side of his neck were two puncture wounds not too distantly spaced. Now what happened here?

They couldn’t have drained him with only these two holes fast enough to kill him, but there wasn’t any other marks on his body. My reason couldn’t explain it, and my imagination screamed vampires. I silently laughed at the idea and laid Jeb to rest.

By the time I came back tot the house it was dark outside, but the lights in the house were still on, indicating that someone was up. I would hardly blame Ellie or Ivy for not wanting to fall asleep with those creeps I the house. However, I was not prepared for the situation I found once I came inside.

Ellie was sitting on the couch with Chris talking and laughing. What is she doing?! As I walked in, they both looked up and smiled at me. Ellie winked at me, I realized then that she was being friendly so that she could learn as much information about them as possible, and I sighted internally. As I continued through the house I found Ivy doing the same with Michael. I guess they expect me to find Damien. There was no way I was going to even act friendly to him, but I decided that it would probably be a good idea just to check on his where abouts. So I started making rounds through all the rooms in the house. So far I hadn’t had any success and began to hear that small voice at the back of my head start to panic.

I opened the double doors to the Library and closed them behind me. As I walked over to one of the bookshelves I casually glanced around the room. Damien sat in one of the large armchairs reading a book intensely. I continued my look around the room as if he wasn’t sitting there and selected one of my favorite books from the bookshelf. I turned to leave with my book when he called, “Is it really necessary to check on me?” I stopped and turned to face him only to find he was still looking at his book. “You tell me.”

“No,” he said without lifting his eyes from his book. “And you expect me to trust your word?” I asked. This time he did lift his face to look at me, and I saw a flicker of hate and regret flash through his eyes, so fast that I could have imagined it. He continued to stare at me until he finally spoke, “No.”
