The next day seemed to creep by. Without Jed we didn’t have any new assignments to work on. He usually had one ready for us by the time we finished the last one which meant we probably had one. But that meant gong through Jed’s stuff and no one felt like doing that yet. We had enough money to wait a while anyway. The creeps hadn’t woken up yet so I felt it would be an opportune time to meet with Ivy and Ellie and learn what they’ve unraveled.

We gathered in the study and closed the doors. I noticed they were both wearing black out of respect for Jed. I was too, but I usually war black anyway. “There’s no that much to tell,” Ivy explained, “I couldn’t get Micheal to say anything really important. He told me they were hiding but he wouldn’t say what from. I also got the impression that the three of them have been together for a long time and that Damien is kind of the ringleader. But all of this I found rather obvious.” Ivy was right, most of that was pretty apparent but it was nice to know we were all on the same page.

“I got the same impression.” Ellie said, “Chris told me that he was really glad you let them stay because he didn’t want to hurt us. He said that hey usually don’t kill people just for a place to hide but that Damien was getting desperate and this looked like the perfect spot.”

Maybe these conversations would be helpful after all. Obviously Micheal was smart enough to keep away any information, but Chris didn’t seem to mind telling Ellie their story. “That’s good Ellie, keep talking to Chris and find out why Damien was so desperate for a hiding place. Ivy, I want you to still talk to Micheal so that he doesn’t notice Chris telling Ellie everything, keep him distracted.”

“What about Damien?” Ivy asked.

“What about him?”

“Well, are you going to distract him?”

I did NOT want to talk to Damien at all. Something about him was off and I didn’t like it. But Ivy was right. Damien seemed even smarter and more aware than Micheal, he should be watched too. “I’ll keep tabs on him,” I replied.

We got up to go find our targets only to realize that they still weren’t up yet. It was well past noon so I didn’t get the feeling that they were just sleeping in. Ellie told me they did this yesterday as well and didn’t get up until it go dark outside. That made me uneasy. I didn’t like the idea that they might be walking around the house while we ere sleeping. If they’re going to be nocturnal and sleep all day, I’ll be nocturnal as well. Ivy and Ellie won’t have to if they don’t want to, and its just as well considering it would be easier for them to follow our future victims around during the day. We’d only need once person awake to keep an eye on them and I wouldn’t be able to sleep anyway if they’re awake. After deciding to not go to sleep tonight I thought I might take a short nape before dusk. I told Ivy of my plans and to wake me up before dark. As I lay down on my bed I stared at the wall in front of me. I thought of all the events from the last two days and before drifting off to sleep I understood that things would be more difficult than I originally had planned.
