“This is the final boarding call for passengers traveling on flight 147 to-“
I drowned out the rest of the loudspeaker announcement as I ran through the airport, bag trailing along mercilessly behind me as I tried to find gate 7.
This wouldn’t be happening if mom hadn’t gotten so emotional about me leaving, I swear I stood next to the taxi for about half an hour hugging my weeping mother and assuring her that I would see her again.
The security was pretty tight here to, which wasn’t helping me at all. It took me ages to get through and I also had to deposit my suitcase with some airport employee’s. Now here I am, rushing to get to my plane before it takes off without me.
Up ahead of me I could see a sign with a giant ‘7’ on it and just under it a young couple gave the woman their ticket to get scanned before they boarded.
I made a mad dash for the gate, handing my ticket to the woman while taking deep gasp’s for air.
The woman then smiled at me and allowed me to board the plane.
“Okay, so go down the left aisle until you find the window seat 16 B” said the hostess, directing me like a lost child.
“Thanks” I muttered and headed for my seat.
As I was putting my extra baggage in the overhead compartment, I couldn’t help but notice how large the plane was.
Then again, where I’m going is known to be somewhat of a holiday destination. It was a reasonably big city but on the outskirt’s (which was where Dawson Grammar was located) were some lovely beaches and lush grass land.
I put my hand bag under the seat in front of me as I took my seat. Soon enough the plane started up and the same hostess who directed me was demonstrating the security procedures.
I had heard them all before so I decided that I would think about what Dawson’s would be like. I soon realized I was excited and somewhat nervous, I guess I didn’t notice it much because I was too preoccupied in getting on the plane.
I knew I was excited for sure. Going somewhere new and meeting new people was a great experience and one I enjoyed.
But I knew I would miss my friends and family back home, even though I was certain we would keep in touch.
Then comes the nervousness, what if I don’t make friends and people don’t like me? What if I get bullied or something of the sort?
These things I hadn’t really thought about, but I was just going to have to be positive.
I was pulled from my thoughts by a ding which meant the seatbelt sign had been switched off, so I grabbed my handbag to search for my iPod. It was also at this time a noticed that no one was seated next to me, bonus!
I smiled to myself as I put my earphones in and let sleep overtake me.

“…would all passengers and cabin crew please prepare for landing”
was all I heard from the loudspeaker as I awoke.
Yawning, I notice I still had my iPod on so I quickly turned it off and put it back in my handbag. I also noticed I had a bad cramp in my neck because of my sleeping position.
We had a little turbulence as we descended but other than that we had a smooth landing.
I took my bags out of the over head locker as well as collecting my handbag and exited the plane, with the hostess thanking me for flying with their airline.
After passing through security, getting my suitcase and all that annoying junk, I went outside to hail a taxi. There was a slight breeze outside but it didn’t bother me, back at home the temperatures got really low, especially in winter.
I put my luggage in the taxi as I climbed into the backseat.
“Where ya’ headed?” The driver asked me, smiling.
“Dawson Grammar, please” I told him politely.
He just nodded and proceeded to drive as I stared out of the window to watch the world go by.
It was about a 40 minute drive and let’s just say the fare wasn’t exactly cheap.
I grabbed my bags and proceeded to walk down the stone drive and through the open gates that had the Dawson Grammar crest on them.
The school was quite large, I was told it held around 1000 students. The actual building reminded me slightly of an oversized, Victorian-style house, it was made from brick and had some type of vine traveling up the walls of it. Around the school was what some may call a small ‘forest’ with flourishing trees and plant-life. It was reasonably old by the looks of it, a lot of renovation had been done and was most likely still happening to keep the school standing. I walked up about 3 steps and opened a large, black set of doors.
I soon found myself before the front desk, where the secretary called someone to come and show me around or something of the sort.
A few minutes of awkward silence before a male teacher came, he introduced himself as Mr. Jacobs, he told me he would be my math teacher for the year.
“…and you must be Miss. Baker, am I correct?” He asked
I nodded in response. He then led me to a room (I guessed it was the cafeteria boarders cafeteria because of the all the seats and tables) which was full of other girls that I assumed were boarders, new and old. Mr. Jacobs then told me to find a seat.
Old friends were greeting each other with excited expressions, but you could tell the new boarders apart from the old ones, they were the ones with the anxious expressions printed on their faces.
A slim, brunette woman stood in front of the crowd, whistling loudly. Everyone in the room was instantly quiet.
“Hello boarders. I am Miss. Andrews for those of you who don’t know me. I would just like to say welcome to the new students and welcome back to the old ones, I hope you all had a good summer. We will now give out the rooming groups of which there will be 3 to a room…”
I kind of zoned in and out until I heard my name called.
“Alice Baker, Kimiko Suuan and Samantha Stevens you will be rooming in Room 12.”
I had no idea who these people were, but I was excited to meet them.
Soon enough they finished calling out the dorm groups, and we were led from the room.
I was at the back of the group as we filed out, but then I accidently bumped someone.
“Sor-“
I couldn’t finish my apology as I was suddenly pushed against the wall, ow.
“You got a problem, newbie?”
I looked to find the speaker was a blonde girl, about my age. She had a kind of bossy, mendacious and controlling feel about her. She was most likely the most popular girl in school. Head cheerleader probably, with a group of 3 ‘loyal followers’ behind her that would presumably do whatever she said, when she said it.
“No” I replied coolly, glaring slightly.
“Oi! Back off, Parker” Said a new voice.
I looked over to see a pale girl with longish black hair that was slightly puffed up, next to her was an Asian girl with brown hair (I was unsure if it was dyed or not) she had a pair of red glasses perched on her nose.
The blonde girl scoffed.
“Or what, you’ll cut your wrists on me?” Her cronies giggled annoyingly from behind her.
The girl with the black hair clenched her fists and a teacher came and told us to ‘break it up’. The blonde turned to me.
“You better watch your back, newbie” She stated, walking off abruptly with her friends.
This is going to get interesting.
I asked for excitement…
…and boy, was I going to get it.
