Kakashi's P.O.V
"What!?" Lady Tsunade screamed at me in disbelief.
I sighed. I had suspected she would react this way when I told her about the mission and mori.
"How could you have let this happen!? Not only did you fail the mission, you let members of the akastuki get away with one of our shinobi!"
Another sigh. I had messed up badly, and it wasn't just hurting me, it was hurting Mori too, if she was still alive anyway. On top of that, Lady Tsunade's yelling was probably making me deaf. Damn, the woman had such a temper.
"I apologize for my mistakes. I'll go look for Mori-"
"No. We're not even sure if she's still alive." She sighed. "We're just going to have to accept the loss and move on. You're dismissed."
I bowed and turned to leave. In the doorway I looked over my shoulder at her.
"I'll keep an eye out for her."
With that I left and headed for home.

Mori's P.O.V
I'm going to have to fight Itachi tomorrow.
The thought played over and over in my head like some kind of dark, sinister song that never goes away. Leader said he would be on the sidelines watching in case Itachi went too far, but how far was too far? When I'm grasping for the last amount of life in me? When I'm being tortured until my mental state is beyond repair? I sighed heavily and looked across the room at Deidara, who was sleeping peacefully, unaware of my restlessness. His long golden locks were spread out on the pillow and a few fell gently over his slightly feminine face, making him look cutely young and innocent. I smiled at the scene. Why couldn't I be fighting him instead? At least then I wouldn't have to worry about being tortured or anything cruel like that.
Not able to take the nervousness and boredom anymore I got up and carefully crept out the door. It sucked not being able to sleep. I couldn't ever just melt away into a pleasant dream and forget my problems; I was always annoyingly aware of them and the stress they caused me.
I came to a library and stopped in the doorway. The dim glow of happiness inside me flickered brighter at the sight of something to cure my boredom. I walked over to the first shelf and found a book titled Scarlet Breath. The description on the back said it was about an olden time girl named Scarlet who was isolated and started having strange visions and killed people in her sleep.
Wait. What?
I read the last sentence again. She killed people in her sleep? Well, it's only fiction. It's not like it's re-
My breath caught in my throat when I read what was printed on the cover; based on a true story. I quickly sat down in the nearest chair and eagerly flipped to the first chapter to begin reading. It wasn't until I was on the third chapter that I started to doze...
"There you are! I've been looking everywhere for you, un."
Deidara's voice startled me. My face paled as I realized I had almost fallen asleep.
"You better come eat some breakfast before facing Itachi, un."
Ugh. Why'd he have to remind me? I sighed and put the book back on the shelf. Deidara led me to the kitchen, where the other members were busy eating breakfast. They looked up at us and I blushed when I noticed I was the only one still in pajamas (Deidara had loaned me some of his clothes to sleep in). Thankfully, no one paid any attention to it. Deidara made us each a bowl of cereal and we sat down at the table and started eating. I couldn't help but glance over at Itachi a few times. Why did I have to fight him of all people?
When we were all finished, Leader addressed us in his deep voice.
"Mori, it's time for your fight with Itachi."
He got up and everyone followed him outside to a training area where the fight would take place. Itachi and Igot into our fighting stances and waited for Leader's signal.
"Fight."
I started by throwing a few shuriken, which Itachi dodged easily. I reminded myself he liked to use genjutsu and tried to avoid his eyes at all costs. He sent a large fireball my way, but I dodged it and charged at him, kunai in hand. We engaged in hand-to-hand combat that lasted only until he sliced into my stomach. I jumped back to recover but couldn't since he charged towards me. Just when I thought he would strike I found myself in what seemed to be a completely different world; everything was black, white, and red.
"You've put up a fair fight so far, but it's going to end her in Tsukuyomi, the nightmare realm."
My eyes widened in pure terror as my worst thoughts were coming true, and a shiver went up my spine when I felt his hot breath in my ear. I tried to move but couldn't. A kunai was jabbed into my side, followed by more. It took a great amount of effort to stifle a scream that had risen up in me.
"N-no...," I whispered with tears in my eyes.
When was Leader-sama going to stop him!? I didn't want to die! No way was I going to die!
I gritted my teeth, closed my eyes, and concentrated hard.
"What?"
Itachi sounded surprised. I opened my eyes and saw the real world once again. How had I broken the sharingan's genjutsu? Strange energy from an unknown source flowed through me and without thinking I threw a punch, just barely missing the Uchiha's head. Immediatly after I kicked, this time hitting him hard in the side and knocking him off his feet. Anger and power flowed through me fiercly by this point and made it difficult to think straight. I was about to strike again when Leader's voice stopped me.
"You've done well. You can stop fighting now."
The energy disapated and I gained control over myself again.
"Come with me to my office, if you will."
I looked at the others' shocked faces before following Leader-sama to his dim office and taking a seat.
"You're a very skilled shinobi to have done so well against Itachi. I am curious though about how you managed to escape his sharingan's genjutsu when it is supposed to be impossible. Care to explain?"
"I don't know. It's just as surprising to me as it is to you."
"Well, we can look into that later. As for now..."
He went over to a cupboard and pulled out the akatsuki attire.
"...here are your outfit and ring."
I took them and thanked him then headed down the hallway to Deidara's room to change (I was still in my p.js...). I knocked on the door.
"Come in, un."
I opened the door and saw Deidara sitting on his bed molding some clay. When he saw me he smiled brightly.
"I had no idea you were so strong! It's no wonder you got in, yeah!"
I blushed a light shade of pink.
"Thanks."
I walked over to the little bathroom and changed into the baggy akatsuki uniform. A huge yawn split my face and I froze; when I yawned it usually meant I was tired and going to fall asleep, and me falling asleep meant someone was probably going to die. Well, shit, that sucked.
I left the bathroom and sat down next to Deidara, watching him mold clay and talking about art. I could already feel my exhaustion tempting me to fall into a deep, and murderous, sleep. I started to pinch myself where Deidara couldn't see to stay awake. It wasn't working too well though...

Kakashi's P.O.V
For once I couldn't get lost in one of my books; I was too worried about Mori. I couldn't just move on like Lady Tsunade wanted me to since it was all my fault Mori had been taken.
I threw on my usual attire and jumped through the window, headed towards the gates of Konoha. I summoned Pakkun, one of my ninja dogs.
"There's someone I need you to find for me," I said.
"Who?"
"Her name is Mori Bara. She's a comrade of mine who was taken by the akatsuki on our last mission to the waterfall village."
"Got it. I'll go there and try to find her scent."
I watched as Pakkun raced off towards the waterfall village, wishing I could go too, but I knew it was forbidden for someone to leave the village without the Hokage's permission. Instead, I just sighed and walked slowly back home.

Mori's P.O.V
Nighttime. My eyes drooped for the last time before remaining closed. I fell, out of reality, out of control, into blackness where I was engulfed by the nightmare that lived to murder, and it was free for the first time in many years. I had fallen asleep.
I sat up and looked around, my eyes seeming to look past everything. Until they settled on a sleeping blonde across the room. I stood and made my way silently to where Deidara was sleeping, grabbing a kunai along the way. The wood floor creaked loudly, causing Deidara to start.
"Hmm? Mori...?"
I brought the kunai down on his shoulder. He yelped loudly in surprise and pain. I withdrew the kunai from his shoulder and made to stab him again, but he was more alert this time and caught my wrist. I struggled, though unable to break free from his iron grip.
"What the hell are you doing, un!?"
I didn't respond, still in my trance. Before he could react I pulled out another kunai and drove it into his stomach. He let out a short scream and let go of my wrist. A knock sounded on the door, but I ignored it and stabbed him again. I pulled the kunai down his bare chest, leaving behind a line of deep crimson liquid. The door slammed open and the overhead light blinked on. I heard shouting and felt hands grip my arms tightly before I dropped both kunai and blacked out.
