The Best Game in the World (A Matt *Death Note* Love Story)-Chapter 6

"Kiriko, are you ok?"

It had been a few days since Matt left and you had a hard time adjusting to not having him around. You were now at a meeting at L's hotel room and finding it difficult to consentrate. You looked up and everyone was staring at you. Both Matsuda and L looked somewhat worried.

"I'm fine. I just have a lot on my mind right now. I'm sorry, please continue." You inserted one of your ear phones and sat quietly, using your other ear to listen carefully to the conversation.

L watched you from the corner of his eye as he discussed his suspicion of their families. You noticed L watching you, so, to make him think everything was ok, you smiled and stuck Pocky in your mouth. You listened as the men basically threw a fit when L told them he wanted to bug their homes in order to rule out their families as suspects.

"I'm sorry, but I have to agree with Ryuzaki. It is possible someone in one of your homes has access to police information and may be using that information. Right now this is the only way."

"What about your home?! Your family?!" Aizawa yelled.

"I have no family. It would be useless to bug my home. We wouldn't get anywhere. All that would be seen or heard would be me playing video games. nothing else." You went back to listening to the men yell about their homes pretty much being invaded. In the end, Chief Yagami gave L permission to put cameras and listening devices in his home.

You waited until all the men were gone so you could spend some time with Watari and L.

"Branwen, something is bothering you," Watari said. You looked up at the man you considered a father and sighed.

"Watari, I'm worried about a friend of mine. He left a few days ago and I don't know where he went. I haven't heard from him since the morning after he left either."

"Who is this friend?"

"Um...well..."

"It's ok, Branwen. You don't have to tell us. We just don't want you to get distracted." L was looking at you from across the table, sipping his tea.

"I know. Your just looking out for me like always, Big Brother." You hugged him goodbye and left for home.

For the next week, you joined L and Chief Yagami as they monitored the Yagami home. Because he somewhat trusted L's judgement, the chief allowed you to watch the videos with them. The very first time you saw Light, you let out a gasp and fell from your chair.

"What is it, Kiriko?"

"I've seen him before!" you exclaimed, pointing at the screen.

"My son?"

"Yes! I passed him a few times on my way home from one of Ryuzaki's hotel rooms. He seemed to be talking to himself."

"Well, that's not completely odd," L said. You looked at him and sighed.

"It's not odd for us, Ryuzaki, but other people might find him crazy. Yagami-san, does your son often do this?"

"I'm not sure. He is preparing to go to university soon..."

"So it's possible he could have just been going over information or possibly a speech and saying it out loud. I couldn't hear what he was saying so that's my only guess. From what I can see he's just a normal seventeen year old boy."

The three of you watched the cameras until it was time to leave. You spent most of your time at L's room, hardly leaving as you carefully watched Light to see if he let anything slip. For some reason, you didn't trust him, but you didn't want to say anything infront of his father.

Towards the end of the seven days, you recieved a phone call while viewing the footage.

"Hello?"

"It's me. I'm sorry I haven't called. Mello's kept me pretty busy."

"It's ok. Actually I've been pretty busy too. Infact, I'm busy right now. It's really important. I'll call the first chance I get. Bye."

"Who was that?"

"My friend. He finally called. He's been really busy with work."
