*At Dawson Boys*

“We can’t just let them get away with this” said James

“Of course we can’t” agreed Travis, getting up from the chair he was seated on and smirking “That’s why I hired us a little help… It’ll give them a little scare and teach them not to mess with us”

“Time for a little revenge” said Tom, another of the many boys crowded in the small dorm for their little ‘meeting’.

Jacob looked up from his spot on the bed, frowning. He really didn’t want any part in this. It seemed there was no choice in the matter, though.

“So it’s settled” Nate chimed in.

“I already paid them off; they’ll get to work tonight”

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

After putting on my pajamas, I started to pack away some of my stray clothes that were scattered around the room.

Out of the corner of my eye I could see Sam staring at me, but as soon as I looked over she looked away. I frowned; the wall had suddenly become very interesting to her.

Kim exited the room, telling us she was going to take a shower.

I swear the tension in the room was so thick you could cut it with a knife.

Everything was quiet except for me putting stuff away and our breathing

It was very…awkward

“Listen, Alice…” Sam spoke, breaking the silence.

I turned to her. I was pretty sure I didn’t want to hear what she was about to say but I was thankful that she broke the silence.

“I am so, so sorry and I know I don’t deserve to be forgiven since this isn’t the first time this has happened. I just-I feel really bad and I know you might not forgive me but it’s worth a shot” She told me quickly.

It took me a while to process the information. Sam doesn’t really strike a person to be someone who apologizes, but the hard thing was deciding to forgive her or not.

I remember Matt told me something back at me old school.

I believe it was, ‘Forgive and forget’.

But it’s a long story, so I won’t go into it. I was going to take Matt’s advice.

I smiled at Sam, she seemed in suspense.

“Okay, I forgive you…”

She beamed at me and got up to hug me.

“…but only if you tell me about happened with you and Kate”

She frowned, “Always a moment ruiner, aren’t you?”

I shrugged

“Later, I promise” She said.

I guess I could live with that.

Sam suddenly sniffed the air and raised her eyebrows.

“Do you smell something?”

I looked at her quizzically, and them sniffed also.

“It smells like something’s burn-”

I was cut off by various screams.

“Fire!” Someone shouted.

The fire alarms soon went off with an annoying beeping noise.

Sam and I looked at each other, both thinking the same thing.

Kim

We both raced out into the hallway, almost being run over by a stampede of screaming girls.

Dark smoke was lingering the air.

“Kim!” Sam shouted out.

We started running in the direction of the smoke, the opposite way to where everyone was evacuating.

Sam was eagerly pushing people out of the way until we reached a desserted hall from where the girls had ran from.

The smoke was thick here, causing me to cough several times.

Sam found the bathroom door and quickly tried to kick it open.

She growled at the door and tried to slam into it, still no opening.

“Damn it, help me” She snapped at me.

I was a little offended by her outburst but I figured it was for the best.

We both positioned ourselves and ran full force at the door, causing it to fly open.

This was a sight I definitely didn’t want to see.

At the very opposite end of the bathroom, the floor had caved in on itself causing flames to arise into the room and begin to make their way slowly towards us.

An even worse sight was Kim in her pajamas, on the floor coughing heavily, trying to get away from the flames slowly creeping towards her.

“Kim!!” Sam shouted.

Kim looked up slightly, before her body went limp.

Sam and I quickly ran over and picked her up before the flames reached her, dragging her out of the bathroom we ran (Well, as best as we could with Kim in our arms) towards the nearest exit.

There was a thundering crack, we turned to see that the hall to the bathroom that we were just in had tumbled in on itself, a sign that we should get out of there fast.

I felt a hand on my arm, which caused me to jump.

Everything had happened pretty fast from then on, there were loads of firemen desperately running towards the flames with a hose. The one who grabbed my arm quickly directed the three of us out of there.

Kim was put on a stretcher and rushed to hospital, along with 2 other girls.

Sam tried desperately to go with them but the principal wouldn’t allow it, causing Sam to get angry and refuse any ambulance members checking she was okay.

After I was given the ok by the nurse I headed over to where Sam was. We were all gathered on the oval, far away from the school in case of ‘falling debris’.

We could only watch as the firemen franticly tried to put out the many flames. I estimated there were about 100 firemen trying to put out the blaze as it licked at the schools walls.

I have only been at this school for what? Five or six weeks and so far it has been completely and utterly shit.

And now these crazy kids have managed to burn half of the school down.

I seriously questioned these peoples sanity.

I looked around to see other girls crying or close to it. I myself often found it weak to cry, but I couldn’t help it sometimes. Especially now when I don’t know anything about my friends condition as she has been rushed to hospital.

I let out a small tear as Sam put an arm around my shoulders in a comforting gesture.

I leaned into her shoulder and whispered “What now? What more could this place possibly throw at us?”

“I don’t know” She told me truthfully “All I know is that this place never used to be this crazy”

She worked up a small smiled and I attempted to give one back.

“I’m sure we can take whatever they throw at us”

Little did I know that my boarding school experience was going to be changed greatly from then on.
