Dear Veteran:
Even though I may not know your name, I want to thank you for all the generosity you have paid us. Our country is in debt to your endless sacrifices, and I am grateful. Having to go to a strange country must be hard, but leaving your family behind is worse. Not being there for Christmas, or your kid’s birthday, or even as they graduated, must have been heartbreaking. Although I can only assume what your experiences were like, the pain is excruciating, but you still managed to pull through. Memories of your experience, both good and bad, will be kept forever. In some cases, physical reminders, such as scars or wounds, will never disappear. Those are never-ending reminders of your selfless gift to the country. Thank you so much for sleeping in tents, undergoing harsh weather conditions, and suffering heartbreak from the death of beloved comrades, all to provide us freedom and preserve our rights. As a student, my main goal is to make sure your efforts are remembered, and appreciated. Once in a while, I reflect on the many wars our country has undergone. In each one, many lives were lost, many dreams were crushed, and many people grieved over loved ones who died in battle. And yet today, some veterans don’t receive the proper healthcare and treatment they need. That’s just not right. These people gave many years of their life to serve our country, and we can’t give them a simple treatment? Everybody should respect veterans, because without them and their numerous sacrifices, who knows what could happen to our country?
(Note to self: That was really short...)
Havea nice day.
~April
