(Callie World)

My eyes slowly open and then snap shut, I roll onto my side and reopen my eyes. Glancing around my lips form a frown, I was back in the penthouse… wasn’t I still supposed to be in the hospital? Yes, yes I was. So what was I doing here?

When I look down I see that I’m still in the hospital gown and the Joker’s purple jacket is wrapped around me. Let me tell you this thing is heavy! Seriously he must keep a dead body in here or something, no wonder he walks around hunched over.

I hear my stomach growl and as if sent from the Heavens on my bedside table is a biscuit when grape jam spread on it, a banana, and a vanilla latte. Sitting up I put my arms through the sleeves of the Joker’s jacket, even if the thing weighed more than me I loved the warmth. I glance to the clock seeing that it was the afternoon, slowly I grabbed the biscuit taking a bit and noticing the newspaper laying beside the food, but it didn’t really catch my attention… that is until I read the head line.

I place the biscuit down and grab the new paper my eyes wide with horror. Harvey Dent dead? No… no, no, no! I don’t take the time to read it instead I throw it as hard as I can at the wall. It was my fault. I had given the Joker his phone number but I had no clue he was going to hurt him! I should have… seeing as it was the Joker but I didn’t.

I pick the biscuit back up eating the rest and thinking. Katie. What about Katie? She must be traumatized! She loved Harvey, she probably never stopped thinking about him and now he’s dead! I can’t believe this is all my fault.

My frown turns to a straight line. Maybe it wasn’t all my fault, I’m sure that they didn’t tell Harvey he had to go into the house too, they probably would have wanted him to stay out of it seeing as the Joker was supposed to be in there. So it wasn’t my fault that he died.

But the frown quickly returns. Harvey obviously had a reason to go into the house and the Joker gave him that reason. So it was my fault because I gave him the number to give him the reason… I pause my head pounding with confusion and sigh trying to forget it.

I grab the banana pealing it back so I could eat it while sipping on the vanilla latte, and after I’m down eating I just sit in bed wondering what I could do to keep my mind of things. Well not things… the Joker. I couldn’t get my mind off him, it seemed like he was a magnet pulling my mind back to him every time I turned away.

I get up and walk to the bathroom going into the closet and grabbing some under garments out of the drawer. The Joker had replaced them like he had down with the rest of my wardrobe so now it’s all purple.

Now I’m standing over the shower turning the water on. I strip down placing his jacket on the counter top and tossing my hospital gown to the side. Chills run all over my bare body when and when I look down I see that the stitches are gone.

“What the Hell?” I freeze up afraid to move, it was like I thought one simple movement would open the wound. Frowning slightly I watch the water in the tub fill up and sigh once it’s filled turning it off.

I lay in the burning water just staring at the wall still thinking of the Joker and not moving.

It was impossible not to think of him. He had invaded my thoughts and refused to leave me or even give me one second of peace. I could hear his laugh playing in my head and words he had spoke to me back four years replay over and over, I’m not even sure how I managed to remember those… the words just seem to be popping into my head.

I sink down and lean my head back getting the top of my hair wet. My fingers run through my soaking, matted, tangled hair trying to comb threw it. Sighing I look around the room.

Once I wash off I get out of the tube and dry off putting on the underwear and then the purple silk robe. After drying my hair I pad out of the bathroom and into my room seeing Diana on the bed.

“Mammy!” There’s excitement on her face and I replace my frown with a smile. “Are you fixed up?”

I nod getting on the bed and placing her in my lap. “Oui, mommy’s all better.”

She wraps her arms around me curling up in my arms. “Daddy tells me you have no work today or the rest of the week.” She tells me as I stroke her hair. I nod, I didn’t find this surprising. This way the Joker could put me through more torture.

“Mammy?” Diana looks up at me her hazel eyes wide.

“Oui. What is it sweetie?” I smile cocking my head.

“Do you love Daddy?” I frown slightly not knowing what to tell her.

“Well….” I start stretching the word out hoping to think of something and thank God right as the word ended the door opened showing the Joker standing there. I begin to tremble but Diana seems to not take notice in this and instead gets up rushing over to him and throwing herself at him. She hugs his legs giggling and he leans down patting her head.

“Go to the living room… Auntie Haaaarley has a surprise for you.” She smiles and runs out. “Now.” He lifts himself up coming to him. My eyes widen and I back myself up against the bed broad, but it’s no use, he grabs my ankle yanking me towards him and causing the robe to come up to my waist.

“What?” I demand but my voice isn’t as in control as I had hoped it would be. Instead in wavers cracking slightly.

“Aw, don’t worry my cherie; I just want to thank you.” He said grabbing my hair and forcing me to sit up.

“Thank me?” I ask in a low tone raising an eyebrow.

“Yes.” He said leaning closer to me so I could feel his hot breath tickling my ear. “You see.” He pauses licking his lips. “If it wasn’t for you Mr. Dent wouldn’t be in the… predicament… that he is now.”

Even though I can’t see him I still know he’s smiling. “P-predicament?” My brow creases.

“Mmhmm.” He nods pulling me hair, I gasp looking up at him. “You gave me his number so I could make that quick little call to him.”

I frown. “Stop.” I whisper closing my eyes. Katie loved him and it’s pretty much my fault he’s dead… or whatever he is now.

He pushes me off of him and I roll to the other side of the bed. I can hear his footsteps sound as he leaves the room shutting the door behind him. Slowly I sit up looking around the room hearing a buzzing sound and my eyes land on my cell phone. I reach grabbing it and answer.

“Hello..?”

“Callie? It’s Katie.” There seems to be a fake sweetness in her voice and I frown.

“Hey… I’m sorry about what happened to Harvey.”

There’s a pause before she answers. “Oh… yes… its sad… apparently his mother wasn’t even in there.” Her voice grows slightly dark before the fakeness comes back. “But it’s not like it’s your fault or anything. It was that psychopathic clowns fault.”

“Um… yeah.”

“Oh! I heard you were at the hospital! I hope you’re feeling better… gotta go. Bye!”

My eyes turn blank and I wonder if she’s okay. But of course she isn’t! The love of her life just died…. I shake me head and fall back.

(Elsewhere)

Katie sits on the couch the news turned on and a bowl of soup sitting on the coffee table. Tears trickle down her checks as the news woman talks about Harvey. Her Harvey. She was saying that he was dead. Katie shook her head turning off the television.

There’s a sound coming from the door and she jumps. “Hello?” She calls sounding braver than she really was.

“Katie… it’s me.” Her brown eyes grow wide as she stands up so she can see if it’s really who she thinks it is.

“B-but… they said you were… d-dead.” She throws her arms around him not even caring if half his face is burned off.

“Only half.” He strokes her hair.

“A-are you okay?” She chocks through tears of joy.

“I will be… now that I’m with you.” A smile grows on Katie’s soft lips.

“I love you Harvey.” Her voice is a whisper.

“I love you too Katie.” He kisses her forehead.

“Harvey?”

He looks down to her running his fingers through her silky brown locks. “Mmhmm?”

“Let’s kill him.”

He gives his girlfriend a slightly confused look.

“LET’S KILL THE JOKER!” She shrieks and a smirk arrives on his face.

“I have a better plan.” He muses twirling a soft lock of brown around his fingers.

Katie looks up to her lover. “What do you have in mind?” She grins darkly.

“Well… while in that house the Joker spoke to us on a television set and in the back ground I saw a little girl.”

Katie’s expression turns to confusion. “A… little girl?” She cocks her head.

“Yes. Your friend… Callie’s daughter actually.”

“Oh.” The grin returns to her face. She had been trying to figure out a way to get back at Callie for not telling her. And she was pretty sure Callie was working with the Joker and now that Harvey had returned it seemed to all be perfect.

“So that means the Joker must have some sort of connection to your friend.” He smiles slightly.

“Oh she’s no friend of mine… not anymore at least.”

“Well that makes this much easier.”

“What are we going to do to her?” Katie asks hoping it would be something horrible.

“We can talk about that later. Now I’m just glad to be home and with you.”
