Greek God

I woke up feeling more rested and relaxed then the day before. Slowly I stretched and opened my eyes and tried to push the fog from sleep to remember where I was and why I felt relieved.

I looked around still laying on the floor. The first thing I saw was darkness. That’s when the event from the night before came to me. I gasped and quickly tried to stand up but something was restraining me.

There was a creamy white hand holding onto my sweater. I looked up to the head of the owner of the hand. Alexandre skin looked no longer sick, in fact he looked much better than the first day I had seen him. His skin looked smooth and creamy. It seemed as if his body had expanded

He had really prominent features, he looked strong and masculine like a Greek god sculpted into white pure marble to remain immortal and unchanging.

His head was resting against my chest and his hands clung to my clothes and waist in a needing fashion. Feeling him so close to me now made me feel awkward. His alluring appearance made me shy away from him.

Very slowly and delicately I took his soft hands and removed them from my body. He whimpered a little in his sleep and tried to bring me back to his body but I managed to keep myself away from me. Once he was no longer holding me. I sighed and turned around, the fire was now almost extinguished, there were only left a few ashes that were still a bit reddish with the fire.

I waited a few seconds for my eyes to adjust to the darkness. That’s when I was able to take in the cave. It didn’t give the creepy and claustrophobic feeling you would expect from a cave in the middle of the woods. It was wide and looked like the cave you would imagine as a child while playing to be a pirate looking for the treasure.

I looked back to Alexandre to check how his wounds were going. The wounds on his arms were already healed and only small marks were left. But looking down to his legs I realized that there was where the worst damage was done. Hidden under his bloody torn clothes were deep gashes covered with dried blood. I felt nauseated and covered my mouth. Pushing down the feeling I carefully tore his jeans completely all the way to his thigh on both legs and took the smelly green thing bringing it next to me. I looked up, Alexandre was still breathing deeply.

With an almost clean sleeve from my sweater I started to clean his wounds and remove the dried blood the best I could to make it easier for me to apply his natural remedy.

Just as I started cleaning the first and smallest gash I felt a sharp jerking movement from his body. Surprised I gasped and jumped a little. He opened his eyes and looked alarmed around the cave just before his eyes found me slightly trembling and nervous.

He started at me for a second. I could see a faint shadow of his animalistic expression in his eyes. Suddenly he sprung from the floor like a wild animal and in less than a second I felt a strong force pushing me backwards and I closed my eyes tightly. My back hit a strong cool surface. A jolt of adrenaline bursted in my veins and I opened my eyes.

Alexandre had landed on top of me. He had a leg on each side of my torso and his hands rested on both sides of my head. He leaned down and bared his fangs warningly glaring into my eyes. I felt agitated; I could feel the nervousness seeping into my being. He made no movement from his position and I just stared back. Now that he was no longer laying I was able to appreciate his figure. I had been wrong he was no Greek god. Every god from Mount Olympus would have envied him. Before, his body had looked athletic and attractive. Now it looked masculine, powerful and… seductive. I gulped and tried to look away.

For a few minutes everything was quiet, no sound could be heard from the outside and neither of us spoke. Our breathing that had been coming fast and heavy was now evening. Seeing that he had no intention of hurting me for now my body visibly relaxed.

His eyes looked troubled but as his animalistic look was replaced by recognition they turned confused and cautious. Hesitating he removed himself from my body and backed up against the rock wall. His calculating eyes never left mine.

I sighed and moved closer to him trying to get access to his wounded legs. Just as I was in a reaching distance he pulled them back against his body.

“Alexandre, I need to clean your wounds. They might get infected” I said softly like a mother would say to a stubborn child.

He just stared at me not saying a word and showing no emotion. I took a deep breath trying to remain patient.

“Alexan…” I started to repeat myself.

“I do not need your help, I can’t take care of myself” he said is a strong but emotionless voice.

“I’m just trying to clean your wounds. Can’t you stop being stubborn for a second for god’s sake! Come on the faster we finish the faster we get back home” I said using a stern tone. He looked away and seemed to be thinking about something very seriously.

Once again I reached out for his legs and this time he didn’t move them away from my hands. I held lightly one leg and started to gently clean his cuts. I started cleaning from the outside of the wound to the inside. Every time I cleaned the center of a deep wound he would flinch a little and tighten his jaw. While I worked I wondered about last night. Did he remember all that had happened or had his animalistic side erased it from his memory? He said nothing about it so I assumed I was correct.

“I won’t” he said calmly after a while.

I looked at him puzzled. His face was like a statue. He made no movements, he just stared. The only thing that showed signs of life in his body were his eyes. They burned with all of the emotion his body lacked. It was an emotion or a mixture of emotions I couldn’t decipher.

“Won’t what? I asked wondering what he was talking about

“I won’t go back with you” he repeated with the same calm smooth voice.

I stared at him for a moment trying to figure out if he was serious.

“Yes you will. There is no way you’ll keep running away after this” I said calmly.

Just as I finished the first leg and moved on to the second I heard and almost felt the vibrations of a growl coming from deep inside him. I looked up. He looked distraught and wild. I suddenly felt anxious and my heart picked up its pace slightly.

“NO I WON’T” he shouted. I backed away a little and looked away as a reflex but right away I looked back at him. My glare matched his intensity.

“You must Alexandre. You are too weak to be able to run away and they are probably still looking for you. You don’t have any blood to drink you know you won’t be able to get very far before they catch up with you. And Zara misses you, she’s really scared” as soon as I said her name his creamy face softened and his eyes lost a bit of their intense glare.

He sighed defeated and hunched almost unnoticeably his shoulders. His silky dark brown hair covered his eyes making a shadow that gave him a hint of mysteriousness. He looked attractive and dark. I finished applying the green antiseptic.

“We should go now” I said standing up and cleaning the dirt from my jeans and hung my bag on my shoulder. I looked back to his cleaned cuts “I’ll bandage those for you later.” He didn’t answer or look at me.

He shakily stood up balancing his body with the wall of the cave. I could see the pain and fierce determination in his face as he tried to stand up straight. A feeling of protectiveness washed over me and I wished to be able to help him stand up but I knew this was something he wished to do alone. As soon as he took a step forward he lost his balance and tumbled forward.

Just in time I was able to stop his fall holding his cold torso with my warm arms. He gasped pained and clung to my back while breathing heavily. His legs shacked under his weight and I tried to support him keeping as much pressure as I could from his legs.

His face was resting on my shoulder. His breathing was evening out but his face was still contorted in pain. After a couple of minutes I grew anxious.

“Alexandre what’s wrong?” I asked. His simple cuts and dog bites were deep but not enough to cause this pain.

“I might have broken something. My left leg is torturing me” he said through clenched teeth. His body was still pressed against mine. I could feel him shaking.

“Do you want to sit down” I asked worried about him.

“No, I can keep walking. I’ll just try to put more weight to my right leg” he said still struggling to stand on his own.

Finally he let go of me and wincing a little stood by himself. He attempted to take another step. Once again I got the urge to help him but I knew he wouldn’t allow me to. I had to wait for him to ask for my help. Every time he tried to take a step he would lose his balance. After a few futile attempts he was drained and about to collapse. I stood in front of him just in case he would fall.

“Can you help me please?” he barely murmured. His eyes avoided mine.

I silently went to his left side and put my arm around his waist while he put his over my shoulders. He still didn’t look at me. I sighed and held him tighter.

“Ok, are you ready?” I asked.

He nodded and took the first step leaning part of his weight on me. It might have been my imagination but he looked a bit taller than before.

We made our way out of the cave in silence. Every once in a while he would wince or flinch. The whole way to the entrance he refused to make eye contact with me.

Once we were outside I realized it wasn’t as early as I thought it would be. I instinctively looked at my wrist but I hadn’t brought my watch with me.

“It’s midday” Alexandre said looking around. He seemed to be a little blinded from the sun but not in pain.

“How do you know?” I asked curious. He looked at me disapprovingly.

“It is common knowledge that it is midday when the sun is in its highest point. Even humans should know that.”

I was about to respond when Alexandre hissed and took a predatory stance looking all around us. I tried to hold him the best I could but it was hard when he was crouching. Growling came from in front of us and Alexandre just growled back menacingly daring whoever was hidden to show itself.
