Ghost Revenge (Sesshomaru) -40-
Here is chapter 40. Next chapter will be the last! O...O(Your POV)
I felt stiff and weighed down, like something was sitting on my chest and wasn't going to budge. I tried to move but only found that I couldn't even wiggle a single finger.
What happened? The last thing I remember was speaking to Reikon and watching Sesshomaru fight and then I was suddenly plunged into this darkness...
"No. Please don't tell me I'm... I'm dead?" I felt my heart lurch at the thought. I had left before I wanted to. I had regrets, so many regrets. I had wanted to see the end of Hisan. I wanted to see my mate, talk to him at least once more before passing.
Why? Why did I have to die at a time like this? How ridiculous was this? It was worse than dying by a weak centipede demon. Much worse.
"Asani?"
I suddenly jolted up, feeling the stiffness leave my body. The darkness that had surrounded me, parted to let a magnificent golden light shine through. And in the middle of that soft, warm light were two people I had never believed to see again.
"Mom? Dad?" I wondered, struggling to stand up.
My dad ran up to me and bent down, motioning to stay sitting.
"It really is you! But, it can't be. Asani, you must go back. You can't die today. There are things you must do." My dad told me as my mom bit her lip from behind him.
"Y-you've grown so much!" My mom said, tears running down her face.
I smiled sadly, casting my eyes down.
"Yeah. And you'd probably be surprised to hear... I'm mated to a dog demon." I said slowly, not knowing when the next chance to tell them would be.
"A dog- Somehow that doesn't surprise me. You always acted more canine than feline." My dad said with a sad smile and I laughed.
"Yeah but you'll never guess which dog demon." I said, feeling my heart ache.
"Oh? Who then?" My mom asked, bending down to gaze at me eye to eye.
"The full blood son of the Inu no Taisho."
"WHAT?!" My dad hollered and I hid my grin.
"My goodness..." My mom muttered, my dad still very much in shock. He, like I and many others, respected and looked up to the Inu no Taisho so I knew this little fact had made him very proud.
"But all that aside... Why...are you here?" I asked, my hands turning into fists.
My mom and dad looked away, their eyes solemn and tired.
"This is the entrance to the next world. For you to be here... It must mean you're dying or already dead." My dad explained and I sighed slightly.
"Yeah. I figured that's what this place was... My heart was skewered after all." I gave a wry laugh but found my parents looking at me, deeply saddened.
"Asani, you can't die today. We've seen parts of your future. We know how long of a life you have ahead of yourself. And if you die today, everything you will do in the future won't be come to pass." My dad stated, standing up.
He then spread out his arms, blocking the golden light from my vision.
"We won't let you pass, Asani. Go back to your mate. Go back to your body." He said, my mom soon copying his movements.
My eyes began to well up with tears.
"I can't, Dad. I tried to hold on as long as possible but...my body gave up. I can't go back." I stated, making my parents frown.
"Then let me lend you my strength. It should heal your wounds fast enough for you to recover." He said, coming up and holding out his hand.
My eyes widened and I reached up but paused. Thoughts began buzzing about my head and I slowly drew my hand back.
"But what will happen to you?" I ask and my mom gave me a soft smile.
"We'll be here, waiting for when your time comes and we can be together again." She said, her hand drawn up to her chest in motherly worry.
I sighed and nodded.
"Alright, lets give it a shot. I'll try my best to stay on my side. I just... I just hope I'm the only one in this bad condition." I mumbled the last to myself, reaching up and taking my father's hand.
(Reikon's POV)
Reikon held tightly onto Asani's hand, trying to hold back his tears. She was gone. Asani was gone.
A loud howl from the battlefield made Reikon look up at Sesshomaru who was in an even worse condition than before. His injured shoulder had seemed to finally be affecting his leg as it was tucked beneath him, limp. One of his hind legs also now had a large wound on it which was so bloody that it was hard to tell just how big the wound was.
Hisan, whose armor was still solidly intact, had yet to be injured further.
Sesshomaru was losing. But despite this, his saddened crimson eyes were on Asani.
Reikon looked down at her, miserable.
"S-she's gone..." Reikon said, knowing Sesshomaru was in just as much shock as himself. But in much more pain.
Hisan, who had taken a break from attacking, looked down at Asani as well.
"So she's passed, huh? What a waste. I had wanted to test her strength before she died. Heh, guess Naraku's deal is null and void." He said, although his voice sounded a bit sad.
"She held potential. A great potential." Hisan mumbled before sighing. He faced Sesshomaru again, preparing to attack again.
It was then that Reikon was thrown back by an enormous power surge.
He quickly scrambled to his feet and peered back at Asani, realizing the sudden disturbance had come from her. Reikon felt that even the two battling demons were paying their full attention to the new development.
Asani's once lifeless, dull blue eyes were suddenly full of life and more energy than Reikon had ever seen. Her skin, although pale from her brush with death, was quickly gaining back color as she tried to prop herself up on her elbows. When she saw Reikon, she ushered him over and he quickly obliged.
"Help me sit up, will you?" She asked and Reikon, wide eyed and shocked, helped her sit up.
"A-Asani, you were dead!" He finally exclaimed and she gave a sour smile.
"Yeah well... I met my parents and they weren't to happy to see me. So they gave me a recharge and well..." Asani peered down at her heart, where her wound was quickly healing at a surprising rate even for demons.
"H-how...?" Reikon was speechless. Not so much from her vanishing wound but from the amount of power he sensed coursing through Asani's body. It was...enormous!
"So, she isn't dead? Close call." Hisan stated, sitting back on his haunches also looking a bit surprised.
Asani looked over at him, her eyes aflame.
"Well I don't die so easily. That's the second time I've escaped death and I'll do it again if I must." She grouched, now able to standup on her own strength.
Reikon stepped back, marveling at how her deep wound was now little more than a scratch. Was this what Hisan had meant when he said she had great potential? Or was it something else?
(Your POV)
After finally getting back up on my own two feet, I peered over at Sesshomaru and held back the twinge of pain that passed through me at seeing what shape he was in.
He was badly injured and was at his limit. He had put up a good fight from the looks of it, but now he looked like he could barely stand. What was worse was that with every passing second, more of his blood was spilt on the ground which made him even weaker.
I could only hope that the strength my dad had lent me was enough to aid in defeating Hisan.
I turned back to Reikon, motioning for him to back up.
"Go back to Tsuki. If we don't come back by sunrise then you can start to worry." I told him before letting my true form take over.
Even in my true form, I was hardly a match against Hisan alone but perhaps teamwork would get us somewhere. Like when Sesshomaru and I had faced Liana.
I looked over at Sesshomaru who looked a bit shocked to see me standing next to him.
"I'll explain later. Can you still fight?" I asked him and he slowly nodded. There was no need for him to tell me that he was weakened. I knew this much and hoped that his remaining strength would be enough to last the rest of the battle.
Sesshomaru and I faced Hisan who had stood back up on all fours.
"Teaming up against me, huh? Sounds a bit desperate..." He said, his armor glinting like tinted glass.
"Because I am desperate. You've caused a good deal of trouble." I said, devising a plan as quickly as I could.
Within the few seconds Hisan had stalled, I came up with a risky plan that may not even work. But if it did, we'd have him. I hoped.
I looked over at Sesshomaru. I was practically holding my breath as my dad's jumpstart was beginning to fade and letting my drained strength catch up to me. But I was going to put everything I had in this.
I nodded to Sesshomaru before I faced Hisan and launched myself at him.
He easily dodged my sluggish attack and rammed me aside. I landed off to his side, laying on my side and smirking at him.
Never underestimate someone who is desperate.
I quickly sank my teeth and paws into Hisan's nearest back leg, making him kick and growl. He did everything he could to try and get me to release my grip on him. But even after having been tossed around, I held onto his leg, slowing him down considerably.
"Now Sesshomaru! Attack his side!" I called out between my clenched teeth.
Sesshomaru eagerly took the chance, his muzzle dripping with poison. Hisan, seeing this writhed and struggled to release me even harder. But I refused to let go and left Hisan open to Sesshomaru's attack. No matter how much Hisan would roll and kick, I wasn't going to ever let go.
The moment Hisan's side was wide open for attack, Sesshomaru took his chance and bit roughly into Hisan's ribs. Hisan was able to squirm around and bite Sesshomaru's ear but the ancient cat demon was pinned down with little to defend himself.
His yellow, glowing armor was just like any other. Armor is only as strong as its weakest point. And Hisan's armor was quite pathetic when it came to protecting his sides and underbelly.
"You! Where did you get the strength to transform?!" Hisan growled out at me between his pain. I bit down on his leg harder, sending his entire side trembling.
"Unlike you, I have people who are close to me and will lend me their strength. You, no matter how strong you are, have only yourself." I growled out, digging my claws into his ribs next to me.
Hisan collapsed, no longer able to stand up with his own weight, my weight and Sesshomaru's weight pulling him down. As Hisan plummeted to the sand, his yellow armor dissipated.
Sesshomaru's poison had finally run its course through Hisan's body and was weakening him now. But he still fought back.
He nipped and swiped his paws at Sesshomaru who dodged and took the attacks. He then turned on me with his remaining strength, managing to grab my tail and bite on it. But I barely even felt it due to my single-mindedness to not let Hisan go.
Eventually, after having wasted his remaining energy, the cat demon's eyes became listless and his eyelids drooped. He slowly let go of my tail and peered at me.
"You...are most definitely my...kin. Perhaps...I was blinded these years to think that those who betrayed me...w-were weak. But more than that, I was... I was wrong." Hisan managed to say, his consciousness fading in and out.
I slowly let go of my grip on him and stood back.
"No. You were right. So many of us have died and so few have survived. Your kin were weak. But those of us who survived... I think that we had found a way to earn our own strength and not rely on what was given to us at birth. And maybe, it was because of those we kept close that we have endured." I said, sitting.
Sesshomaru began to let go too, seeing Hisan barely able to stay awake. He eventually stepped back, sitting down to let his injured paw rest lightly on the ground.
Hisan looked over at him.
"And you... Heh, I've been completely fooled. D-dogs demons will probably...rule this world. Not us." Hisan muttered, his lack of strength soon forcing him to rest his head on the ground.
"Maybe, Hisan. But somehow, I don't think Sesshomaru has the same aspirations as you." I stated, letting my words drift through his ears as he reluctantly gave in and fell asleep.
With Hisan's heartbeat lulling to a throb and his body soon returning to that of a more human appearance, Sesshomaru and I returned to our usual forms as well.
We looked at each other, a feeling of relief spreading through me. Although Sesshomaru looked beat, he hadn't been fatally wounded.
But it was obvious he was exhausted.
"Asani, I thought you were..." Sesshomaru began, his voice quiet.
"Dead? Yeah, I thought so too. But my parents are keeping watch." I told him, offering a soft smile. I then peered down at Hisan who was completely knocked out.
"Now we just gotta get him to-" I stopped and looked up at the ocean, seeing the dark twilight finally breaking away to a small sliver of the sun.
Sunrise. Something I had thought I'd never see again...
"Asani! Sesshomaru-sama!" I looked up to find Reikon and Tsuki flying down towards us. I smiled and waved them down.
Reikon landed next me, checking to make sure I wasn't badly injured and making a curious face at the blood that I knew was around my mouth and neck. He then looked down at Hisan, letting out a deep relieved sigh.
"Thank heaven... I thought you would lose." He said and I nudged him.
"Have a little faith is your friends." I complained, soon standing up and going to Sesshomaru's side.
Tsuki snorted at this then whistled.
"Well from the looks of it, Hisan gave quite a fight. Still got enough energy left to see this guy resealed?" She asked and Sesshomaru slowly stood up and nodded.
"Of course."
I smiled. I wanted to make sure Hisan would return quietly to a deep sleep...without any trouble.
We managed to all get to the cave Tsuki and I had found. Although I had to help Sesshomaru out a few times, to his great disapproval. The great dog demon, although tired, apparently had enough energy to stand up for his ego.
All four of us stood at the mouth of a small cave, Hisan slung over Reikon's shoulder.
"Ok, now what?" Reikon asked.
Tsuki motioned to the cave and crossed her arms.
"Sit him inside." She told him and he eagerly walked off into the cave.
He roughly sat Hisan down on the rocky ground, walking out of the cave looking anxious.
"This had better work or I don't know what we'll do." He stated and I nodded, feeling the same.
Tsuki rolled her eyes but silently agreed. She walked past us and towards the opening of the cave, stopping at the side and holding up a paper.
"I know what I'll do if it doesn't work. I'll grab hold of someone and strangle them until they turn blue and then curse Hisan until he dies." I overheard her saying to herself and laughed.
We watched as she quickly cut her finger and drew a few symbols on the side of the rock wall in her blood. She then took one last look at the paper in her hand to check her work on the wall. Pleased with her work, she turned to us with a hopeful look on her face.
"Ok, that should have done...something." Tsuki suddenly fell silent when a rumbling sound came from inside the cave.
She quickly ran back to the group as rocks from all around crumbled down around the entrance to the cave. The rocks all seemed to fall with a predetermined destination as they all landed on and in front of the entrance. It looked as if the cave had been completely destroyed, demolishing any evidence that there was even a cave there.
The four of us watched, letting our worries fade into dust. Hisan was finally sealed away.
"I think my enemies are starting to understand me a little to well for my own good." Came a familiar and angry voice from behind us.
We all spun around to see, of all people, Naraku in his baboon pelt. I glared at him and I felt Sesshomaru tense next to me.
"Don't worry. I'd hardly try attacking you after you've been through such a harsh battle. I'll reluctantly admit that Hisan was stronger than me." Naraku stated, his voice a bit perturbed.
"Oh? So then what stops us from killing you right now?" I asked, smirking. Naraku seemed to dislike my retort.
"The fact that you all are very weakened by your battles. And by the time you are back to full strength, I will have grown even stronger. I won't be so easily defeated." He stated before bowing his head slightly and disappearing into the thick forest.
I sighed and plopped down on the ground.
"He's right, sadly. But I'm not going to mull over it now. We've defeated one enemy today. No need to try another." I stated, feeling light headed as what strength I had left began to dissipate.
"Asani? Asani, you ok?" I heard Tsuki ask but I barely heard before just laying back and falling asleep.
