I stole a glance at William and then looked down at my hot pink fingernails. He smiled and brushed some hair out his brown eyes. I watched the woman at the front of the room drone on about healthy relationships without using any illegal substances. Honestly it got annoying listening to this after the first half hour. Everyone giggled and I smiled and looked down to my blue vans. Mr. Spading looked up at both of us and sentenced us to the main office. I shrugged thankful to get out there and William just straightened his tee shirt and held his hand out to me.

I looked up again and saw the person next to me and William were switching seats. William poked me in the side after sitting down and smiled. “Hey there stranger.” he laughed and masked it with a cough. “Come here often?”
I smiled “Often? Don’t you mean do I live here?” I whispered.
He shrugged and turned back to the woman in the vomit green shirt. I laughed at his weird antics and tried not to pick at my nails or twirl my hair. The woman traded off with a balding man named Mr. Spading he was sixty and overweight twenty minutes later. I sighed and looked over to William, he was fast asleep in his chair snoring quietly.
I poked him in the side getting him back. He jerked awake. “Whoa there.” he said loudly.
Technically he wasn’t supposed to make any romantic gestures towards me so my eyebrows went up. He smiled and linked hands with mine as we walked out. The air was cold for summer but I couldn’t care less. William was wearing a light hoodie and noticed light goose bumps were appearing on me, so he handed me his hoodie.
“I cant believe you just got us kicked out.” I teased sticking out my tongue.
“You know you wanted out of there.” he continued walking taking us into the woods. Definitely not the way of the main office for sentencing of disrupting the classroom full of people trying to learn how to be sober and healthy.
“Where are we going?” I asked walking in a pile of mud. My vans suddenly looked like I was in a Indiana Jones movie but I didn’t care. Growing up with a lot of boys and brothers did that. That made me not care about mud or dirt.
“I’m taking you somewhere special.” his hand still had a tight grasp on my smaller one. I smiled and looked down at the ground.
“Why?” I asked “We’re going to be killed and never put in group together.”
“Lies. Alyssa blew Greg and they had group together we’ll do fine.” he turned around and smiled showing off white teeth.
The woods were thick and piney. They smelled fresh like a Christmas tree and made me relive a lot of smoking memories from back home. This memory I was making right now with William would out live the smoking memories and I knew that. The woods, were filled with mud and bushes, poison ivy was visible in some parts but I avoided it so to be sure not to get infected.
“Fine but I really don’t want to lose my only friend.” I defended.
“You wont.”
We rounded a corner and I could hear a loud roaring. He smiled and pulled me further into the woods, then rounded another tree corner. What I say next was a stream with a cascading waterfall that had ducks in it. I smiled widely and he dropped my hand instantly.
“This is so beautiful Bill.”
“Like you?” he smirked and walked over to me, then cupped my face in his hands.
I blinked “That’s so cheesy, do you use that on all your-” I was cut off by his lips pressing down on mine lightly. I smiled into the kiss and pulled away. He pulled me further to the ledge of the lake then sat down on the edge not caring that it was muddy.
“So tell me how did you get sent here?” he asked turning to me once seated.
I bit my lip “Court order from Canada, I mean I was arrested and then I went to court.” I nodded trying to make my story very melancholy and no big deal sounding. Trying to make it sound like it happened all the time was hard. “What about you?”
“I’m in a band and with a band comes drinking, it just comes with the territory.” he smiled small.
“Understandable. Ever think about drinking in smaller portions? I mean this is your second time here right?”
“I’m here to learn how to do that or get clean.” he replied “Whatever works.”
I smiled and leaned my head on his shoulder. I could smell his soap, and the water from around the trees. The moment was perfect and I couldn’t believe it was happening. I sighed and reached up and pecked his lips once more then looked out and watched the waterfall. Reminding myself that this was very much real in every aspect.
