"Now, get out, you filthy little whore!" my dad yelled at my mother as we we're leaving out of my house.
"I'd rather be a whore than a dumbass!" my mother yelled as we were in our Mitusubishi Endeavor, with me trying to buckle in my 2 year old sister, Michelle. My dad is very abusive, especially when he's drunk. ANd, you can guess what kinda mood HE was in.
"Where we goin', Mom?" I asked, nervous.
"We're going to live with your aunt in California," my mom said. We live all the way in MIssouri, so it was avery far drive. My family, is, like, literaly, scattered all over the US. But, out of all the family members, "Auntie" Denise is probably the the best to turn to. I mean, she's not really my sunt, but she's my mom's best friend from college, so she's kinda like an aunt to us.
"She's not our real aunt..." I trailed off, putting on my iPod, listening to my personal playlist filled with All Time Low and, my good friends, the Jonas Brothers, falling asleep.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Wake up, honey, we're in California," my mom said, holding Micky on her hip.
"Ooooohhhhhh," I groaned as the bright, California sun shone on my face. It blinded me so badly that I fell out of the car.
"Wow, Shailene, you're still the same as we last left you; clumsy," I heard a voice say in my ear. I opened my eyes fully to find my bestest friend, Nick Jonas, holding me, with my iPod still on, blaring "Just Friends".
"Oh, um, hey there," I said, getting up & shutting off my iPod, fully awake now.
"Hey, Shai, how's it goin'? I haven't seen you since your 5th grade graduation," Nick said, blushing & smiling from ear to ear.
"Hey. Well, if I'm here, then not so well, & yeah, it's been a looong while," I said, laughing.
"SHAI!!!!!!" I heard Joe yell from the front door, running towards me, tackling me.
"Nice to see you too, Joe," I said, gasping for air.
"Hey, Miss Shailene, nice to see you," Kevin said, holding my hand & kissing it, as if I were some sort of princess.
"Always the gentleman, huh, Kev?" I said, hugging him after he got up.
"Come on, Shai, I want you to meet someone who you're gonna love," Joe said, pulling me across the street. We stopped at a big-but-decent-looking house. Joe rang the doorbell eagerly, and a girl blaring her Zune opened the door with such enthusiam.
"Heyyyyyyyy, you guys. Who's this?" she said, gesturing towards me.
"Oh, this is a good family friend of ours. Shailene, meet Z'ya," Nick said.
"Hey I'm Shailene, but you can call me Shai," I said, being polite.
"Hey, I'm Z'ya, & I'm prolly one of the craziest people you will ever meet. Besides Joe, of course," she said. I immedieatly liked her.
"Okay, well, we've gots to go help Shai unpack, so we'll chat later," Joe said, with a wink. Hmmm, wonder what's going on between them.
We walked back to the house when Kevin said, "So, I overheard my mom talking to your mom & she said that you had gotten you first boyfriend. Is that true?"
I sighed. My boyfriend, Josh, (Writer's Note: yeah, it's Josh Golden. for those of you who don't know him, he's an amazing singer. go check him out on myspace & youtube!) was still home in Missouri, and I prolly won't ever see him again. "Yeah. He's really cool. He's really into music, like you guys."
"Really? Does he, like, play the guitar?" Nick asked. Yeah, he kinda has an obsession.
"Yeah. He's trying to find a label now. It's not as easy as it looks, though," I said, missing his soothing voice.
"You're telling me. You know how hard it is? I mean, you know that it took us, like, years to finally get to a good label," Kevin said, making me laugh.
"Yeah, so, like, now, we're finally... well, home," Nick said, resting an arm on my shoulders.
Hmmm, I thought, maybe living in California has its advantages, as I felt Nick's muscle flex on top of my shoulders.
