Millions of people can attest how constant ringing in ear can get so annoying and distracting that their daily activities get disrupted. This is also referred to as chronic tinnitus, and it can be heard on a daily basis, and even 24 hours a day. While it is not life-threatening in itself, it may leave the sufferers debilitated because of the health problems that it brings about.

Inability to concentrate, stress, insomnia, immune system suppression – these are just some of the effects of constantly experiencing ringing in the ears. Now, if you are one of its sufferers, it is nothing but natural to seek relief from the annoying and unwanted sound. There is no cure for it as of yet, but researches are being done to find the sought-after cure. Although it is not an infection or a disease in itself, it is taken seriously by medical practitioners because of its health implications.

While there is no cure as of yet, remedies are available that can help you manage and cope with it. If you feel the need to concentrate or if you find it hard to fall asleep at night as a result of the presence of the unwanted sound, listening to white noise maskers is a likely option. White noise makes the ringing noise less noticeable, and it is good to listen to as it does not elicit an emotional response from you. Hearing aids are also used to mask the unwanted sound by amplifying the background in their user's environment. They are especially helpful for those whose chronic tinnitus is associated with hearing loss.

Drug therapy is another option. Also, alternative treatments are being used. These include acupressure, acupuncture, hypnotherapy, meditation, reflexology, relaxation therapy, herbal remedies, and homeopathic tinnitus remedies. You may also go to a professional counselor, who can teach you techniques on how to cope with the ringing in your ears. There are also support groups that you can join in, and these are good venues for meeting people who share the same experiences with you.

To prevent the level of the constant ringing in ear that you experience from getting worse, you also have to take note of the things that you should do and should avoid doing. These include having a proper diet, regular exercise, and enough sleep at night. On the other hand, you have to avoid foods that contain high amounts of salt as well as caffeine. Unhealthy habits like smoking and excessive consumption of alcoholic drinks must also be put to a stop.
