An automotive floor jack is a tool which should be included into each and every car owner’s toolkit. Perhaps, you had got a specialized car jack when you bought your vehicle, but the thing is that they often should be replaced when lost or broken. And you should be very careful when choosing an appropriate type of a floor jack for your car, because of safety reasons.
The main purpose of a car jack is lifting any part of a car. It is often used when one needs to change a tire, but that is not the only way of using an automotive floor jack. You can lift only on corner of your car with a standard automotive floor jack. If you need to lift the entire back or front, use specialized jacks.
The most popular type of automotive jacks which are provided by car manufacturers is a scissor jack. For lifting the car up and down it utilizes the central screw mechanism. This mechanism is brought to action by a special handle (supplied with a jack) or by a simple tire removal tool.
For raising up larger cars (and trucks) another type of automotive jacks is used. It has large shift with teeth, big flat base plate and a ratcheting mechanism.
Hydraulic automotive jacks are very popular as well. There are both wheeled and non-wheeled versions of hydraulic jacks.
Automobile mechanics often use big automotive floor jacks, which roll under a car, at their shops. The entire front or back of a vehicle can be raised up with the help of such a jack.
Every automotive floor jack has safety features to prevent from accidents. With large bases a car jack will never tilt or sink into the ground. Car jacks are equipped with a special handle in most case, but many of them can be operated with a tire tool as well. There is a stop point on a jack, which is why you cannot extend it beyond the given level.
When travelling on your car you'd better have an automobile jack at hand. The most important benefit is that a driver can change a tire quickly and easily in emergency without calling for assistance and paying a lot of money for this. Surely, you can use the tool for any other task (like changing brake pads, belts, oil) if you like to do all the maintenance by your own. So, we may conclude from the above that an automotive floor jack is a must-have for every car owner.
