I shifted to look at Alex's sleeping face clearly. He looks so childish when sleeping.

Wait a minute...

"Alex," I whispered loudly at him. His eyebrows furrowed but his eyes were still closed. "Go back to sleep dammit."

"You never did say anything about the thing you were thinking," I said hurriedly. I could feel Alex stiffened up. "Uh, I'll tell you tomorrow."

I pouted, not that he could see but I still want to. "This is so typical of you Alex!"

"I know, I'm sorry. I promise I'll tell you, tomorrow."

[Tomorrow...]

"Good morning mom!"

"...It's...not morning here..."

"Anyway," I said hurriedly, ignoring my own mother, "I think Alex is going to propose to me..."

"REALLY?!"

Well, that woke her up.

"Yes, really! Last night he took me to this fancy restaurant and he wanted to say something to me and then I saw this man proposing to his - now - fiance. He placed the ring in her cake and I made a remark on how cheesy the proposal is. Alex choked on his wine and ran to the what I think is the kitchen!"

"YOU IDIOT!"

Oh wow.

"Oh God Melissa you just had to open your big mouth you know?"

"Mother!" I said, aghast. Then there was a short pause before I squeaked, "I know right? How stupid am I?"

"Sweetheart, are we going or not?"

"Got to go mom, bye," I whispered and shoved my phone in my pocket.

"Your mother?"

I nodded and we walked till we reached the park. It's a lovely morning today.

"So, what was that you want to say to me?" I said in an unusual high pitched voice. Alex looked at me oddly.

"I-" he paused and shook his head before smiling sweetly at me. He took my hands and leaned against the tree.

"You know I love you right?"

"Of course I do; I love you too," I said, lightly pecking him on the cheeks.

"Melissa, I...I...HOLY SHI-"

I scowled. "W-what?"

"There's something..." he trailed off, reaching at his back. Then there it was - shining under the sun in its black poisonous glory.

"OH MY GOD!" I gasped.

"WHAT WHAT?!"

"There's- there's a scorpion on your shoulder!"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Screw this," Alex mumbled.

I jumped. "No, no, don't screw it!"

We were back at the chateau, sitting at the balcony. The moon was bright and full, and the stars were sparkling playfully at us.

"I've been trying to propose to you in these stupid ways that to me - is tacky and cheesy too. But all I want to do is to spend the rest of my life with the girl I love," he said. I smiled, blushing.

"I love you and I dare say that I would give up the throne just for you," he said in a bare whisper. My jaws dropped. He's really serious about this! I mean, I was expecting an 'I love you' only. I really wasn't expecting this!

"You are like fireflies in a jar. Once I caught you, I never want to let you go. I've been thinking for a long time about this - if it will work out and everything. But now I got my answer. Melissa Renee Winters, would you be kind enough to spend the rest of your life with me as my wife?"

I bit my lip. Was luck really on our side now? What about his father then?

Is this another wrong step that I would make in my life yet again?

"Welcome back!" Nicholas exclaimed and hugged me tightly. I stayed silent, looking depressed.

"You have no idea what hell I had been through without you here bossing me around," he said, pouting. I remained silent.

"M-Melissa? Are you okay? Are you still hurt?" Nicholas said, eyes widening. I shook my head.

"I think I made the wrong decision in saying no..." I trailed off, looking at my feet.

"No? No to what?" Nicholas asked curiously.

"No to the tulips as the centerpiece - I'm beginning to hate the cliched look of roses: and I want my wedding to be perfect!" I exclaimed happily and flashed him the diamond ring on my finger.
