Love Once Lost [[9]]
School. It came and went. Now for Rae, it was going to drone on until she found out for sure. The halls were desolate, she was late. Not much later, but still late. Class hadn’t started yet. The bell had just rung to get into class.
Rae slowly edged into the classroom, her books clutched tightly to her chest. She went and sat down slowly. She was terrified of asking Jake what he would do. Would he do anything at all? He said he’d be with her forever. How long was forever though?
“Hey, Rae. You seem ancy. Is something the matter?”
“I just need to talk to you after class.”
“Okay.”
The class seemed to drone on for countless hours. Even though it was only one, it seemed to be about a million. Once it was over, Rae and Jake met up along side the halls.
“You wanted to talk to me?”
“Yes. Jake,” she looked him in the eye, “Be honest with me. Do you love me?”
“Of course, Rae. Haven’t I told you that before?”
“Love me enough to do anything for me?”
“Rae just tell me what’s going on.”
“Jake…your going to be…a father.”
Jake just stood there. His brow furrowed. Him? Him, Jake, a father?
“Are you serious?”
“I wouldn’t lie to you about anything remember?”
“So, how are you so sure?”
“I took a test. Jake don’t you believe me?”
“Yes. I just,” he smiled enthusiastically at Rae, “I’m happy. Shocked, but happy.”
Rae smiled back in relief. So he would be the father. He would be because he cared about her. He, Jake, LOVED her.
“So do you want to come to the doctor with me? I mean, to find out how far in I am?”
“Sure. Yeah, when are you going?”
“Around 3 today. Just make sure you eat cause it might be a while before you and I get in to be seen.”
“Okay. Rae, I love you.”
Jake hugged her and kissed her gently on the lips. Not only did he have everything wanted, now he had more. More than he could ever want. This was a dream come true.
Rae was right. The doctor’s office dragged on, and on, and on. Jake’s living with Isabella for so long gave him a lot of time to work on his patience. Rae just sat there looking worried.
Jake place his pointer finger and thumb on Rae’s chin. He lifted her head so she could see his eyes. He gazed into her’s for a moment then kissed her.
“There is no need to be worried. Everything will be fine. Why are you so worried.”
“I don’t know. My mind is car wreck of thoughts.”
Jake let Rae put her head down and just smiled at her. She always seemed so worried about the little things in life. She didn’t take the time to understand that she would be fine.
“Brittany Rae Marie Clark?”
Rae looked at Jake. He knew she didn’t want him to go in with her, so he just kissed her and let her go inside alone. She followed the nurse in the white suit. Jake sat there watching.
The wait was short yet long. He was so anxious to know what was going on. He was bugged by the fact that she got to go into the room and find out first.
“Jake?”
He looked up and saw Rae standing there with a smile across her perfect face. She was beaming at him like a super nova. Apparently something was making her smile.
“So what did you find out?”
“The baby is about a week or two, maybe a month, and it should be due around the month school starts.”
“Gender?”
“Can’t tell just yet, have to wait till the fourth month.”
Jake smiled and grabbed Rae’s hand. He smiled at her and kissed her on the cheek. He was giving her the most dumbfounded expression he had ever given her.
“Jake, I’m glad your happy. Uh, your little admirers don’t seemed to be too pleased with you kissing me though.”
Jake furrowed his eye brows and looked over his shoulder. To teenage girls, seemed to be around 15 or 16, were staring at him, whispering things to each other.
“Yeah. Forget them.”
“I think we should tell Isabella.”
“You want to tell my mother?”
“Yes. My parents are perfectly satisfied and happy for me. I think it’s time your parents know now.”
Jake sighed and looked at Rae. His eyes saddened. He couldn’t deny her though. If she thought it was for the best, then it probably was.
“Okay. When do you want to tell them?”
“Right now. Once we leave, I want to go straight to your house and tell them.”
Jake looked at Rae intently. If this is what she wanted to do, then he would do it for her.
Rae and Jake walked to the car. Jake was driving because Rae didn’t know the exact directions to his house. He drove slowly. By the time they were there he figured Isabella and Matthew, his father, would be home. He opened the door for Rae and let her in. They sat on the couch and cuddled for a while before Isabella and Matthew walked in the door.
“Jake! This must be your girlfriend. Rae.”
Jake smiled and went over to hug his dad. Matthew always understood what Jake was going through. Unlike Isabella, she hated Jake. Even if he was her son.
“I’m going to go make dinner.” Isabella looked at Jake and Rae. Jake already knew this wasn’t going to turn out well.
Dinner took about 30 minutes to finish making. At the dinner table, Rae placed her hand on top of Jake’s and motioned for him to tell Isabella about there surprise.
“So, mom, dad, how was your day?”
“Work.”
“Good son, how about you? What about Rae. Isabella, don’t you think Rae is beautiful?”
“Yeah, just great.”
“So, Rae is here because we actually want to tell you something.”
Isabella’s eyes flickered up. If what they were about to say was what she thought it was, there wouldn’t be a father for this child.
“Go ahead. Shoot.”
“Rae is pregnant and I’m the dad.”
Rae looked at Jake. Jake was looking at Mattew, who was beaming a smile so bright, if you stared at it long enough, you might go blind.
“No.”
Isabella muttered something to herself then repeated herself like a broken record.
“No. No. No. Jake you cannot be the father of this creature’s baby.”
Creature? Rae, a creature.
“Mom! How could you say that?! Rae is my girlfriend!”
“Girlfriend or not you cannot be the father!”
“Who are you to tell me what I can and can’t be?! That’s my child your talking about!”
Rae just got up and ran out of the house sobbing loudly. Matthew didn’t do anything. Isabella was about to bite off Jake’s head, and Jake was chasing after Rae.
“Rae!”
“Go away!”
She tried to run past her tears but Jake was too fast for her. He grabbed her by the arm and flung her around to face him.
“Rae! What’s the matter?!”
“Don’t you understand! Your mom doesn’t want us together. Just forget about me now. Just forget about me now, and move on.”
“Rae how could you say that? You know I love you. No matter what Isabella says I’ll be with you forever.”
“Jake, are you blind? Can’t you see your mom hates me. I’m nothing more than a creature.”
“Maybe to her, but to Matthew and I you’re so much more. Rae just forget what she says. I’m going to help you through this. I promise.”
Rae just slumped into Jake’s embrace. If what he said was true, then she would be self endulged to help herself get through this.
“You promise?”
“Yes, of course. I promise.”
Jake hugged Rae. This would be hard but he would do it.
