Love Once Lost [[11]]

Jake entered his house a few minutes later. Matthew was just sitting on the couch with his face in his hands. Jake went and sat down beside him.

“What’s the matter, Matthew?”

“Jake…” He was looking for the right words to break it to Jake, “Your mom is making us move to Washington.”

“What! Dad no you can’t let her!”

“Jake I have no control over what your mom insist be done!”

“Yes you do! Matthew you’re the man of the house! Can’t you stand up for what you believe in for once instead of letting her just push you around!”

“Jake stop bickering with me about this!”

“You’re not a father at all! You can’t do anything right!”

Jake ran up to his room and grabbed his pillow. What good was Matthew now? All he ever did was let Isabella take control. Isabella, the woman of the house. She despised Rae. She despised Jake just as much.

“Matthew can’t you be a man and stand up for yourself?”

Matthew was sitting downstairs and was about to smash his face into the door. Didn’t Jake understand that it wasn’t his choice? Or was it? Maybe he should be more of a father figure than he was. Was he even a father figure at all?

Jake passed out on his bed. He awoke the next morning with a familiar dream lingering in his head. Who was the woman he dreamt about every night now? Her long black hair and perfect eyes. Was she an angel? Perhaps she was trying to tell him something. She always wore black, she always played the familiar song on the piano, and she always cried like she had lost a loved one.

Jake entered the hallways of school like he always did. The light shining bright in his face. The hallways were always so monotonous. The usual chatter of the kids here and there, their laughing, their gossiping, and their usual chatter of “Do you want to hang out with me sometime?”

Once Jake walked in the classroom he was jumped by his girlfriend. Her face was beaming as she kissed him and her eyes were sparkling like diamonds.

“Good morning, love. How was your night?”

“Full of sleep, and dreams about you,” he lied.

“Aw, I love you, Jake.”

“I love you, too.”

Rae cuddled with Jake like she always did and rubbed his back gently with her hands. She could tell something was wrong though by his expression. He always smiled when he saw her. This time though he wasn’t smiling at all.

“Is something wrong?”

“No. We just need to talk.”

Rae’s face caught the look of worry. Was he intending to break up with her now? No, he promised.

Jake sat down and ripped out a sheet of paper. He started to write on it. His gorgeous manuscript, and perfect shaping of the letters.

Rae, my mom is forcing me to move away. I wish I had a choice but I don’t. Please don’t be mad or upset. She is making us move to Washington, where I suspect I shall go crazy from the lack of you. Either way, I will come visit you every chance I get and I intend to stay as long as I can. Don’t be worried.

Rae could feel her eyes watering. He couldn’t move. Not yet, not ever. She was anxious to find out what was going on. She scribbled something back to him.

You can’t let her do that! Jake, your supposed to stay here with me! What about our child?

Look as soon as I can get away from her when I finish school I’ll come back to you. Do you really think I’d leave you and stay gone? Anyway, we’re moving at the end of school. The day right after to be specific.

Jake I don’t care! I can’t believe she’d do this to us. Couldn’t you stay in my trailer home with me? We could be our own family there!

I already argued with her about it. She said no. Flat out no, to be exact. Rae don’t worry, things will work out. Everything will work out.

Rae looked at the board straight ahead. She trusted Jake to always keep his word, so she calmed down. The class as usual went by slowly. The worry as usual, faded away casually.

At the end of the period, Daylnn and Chellie were watching Rae and Jake. Once they got up and left, Chellie leaned against the doorway. Daylnn was digging through the garbage to find what they had been scribbling back and fourth so rapidly on.

“It’s a note.”

“Does it have writing?”

“Well no duh Chellie. Gah, talk about being real smart. It says…forcing me to move away…can’t do that…baby…don’t worry…BABY?!”

“What?!”

Chellie yanked the note from Daylnn’s hand.

“What does it say about a baby?”

“It says here that Jake can’t leave because she doesn’t want him to. She needs him to stay for her and his child.”

“Oh this is too good. We have a way to get back at them now. Don’t you see? We can kill her baby.”

“Better yet, we can kill her.”

“True. Oh, so true.”

“Daylnn, when you get home call so we can plan out how we intend to do this.”

“No problem.”

Jake was getting frustrated with Rae’s constant grabbing of his jacket. He wanted to turn and slap her. She had no reason to be worried.

“Jake it will be fine!”

Rae was taken aback. He had never yelled at her in such a tone before.

“I’m sorry.”

Rae grabbed her books and walked off. Jake beat his hand against a locker. She was making him mad. Now he hurt her feelings and he was mad at himself.

Chellie noticed this. She walked past him and tauntingly whispered, “What’s the matter Jake? Mother got you down?”

Jake lifted his head and looked at Chellie as she passed by. What had she just said?

The school months went by fast. Finally it was the last month of school. The majority of the kids were excited. Jake and Rae were cuddling in class again. They were both looking into space. Rae was just staring blankly at the wall thinking. Jake was staring at his desk, just holding her. Silently.

Daylnn and Chellie were busy discussing their plan again.

“So I was thinking instead of you running into her from the side, why not from behind?”

“Uh, I never thought of that.”

The original plan consisted of making a fake call to Rae that Chellie’s mother, who was an Obstetrician, had told Chellie to call Rae, who would get the number from Daylnn from when they were dating, then when Rae was driving to the doctor’s office, Daylnn would crash into her from the side. It would be difficult, they would need perfect timing. Crashing into her from behind though, was much easier, he would be able to swerve around cars from left to right and hit her directly in the back at 120 m.p.h., which right when the car hit, he would go jumping into the back seat.

“So just do that. It would make it a whole lot easier.”

“Okay.”

They continued to look at Rae and Jake. They were so un-expecting, like the little seals that swim in water and don’t know they’re being followed. Then, when the killer whale has a chance, it speeds up and swallows them like nothing.

The period ended faster than expected, Chellie and following Rae.

“Hey, Rae.”

“Oh, hey Chellie.”

“I was wandering if the week after school ended, would you like to hang out at the mall with me?”

Rae had to take this into deep consideration. Chellie had lied to Rae. Chellie had made Rae’s heartbreak like nothing. Why not though, she did deserve a second chance. Didn’t everyone?

“Uh, sure.”

It would take her mind off of Jake anyway.

Chellie waved and smiled as Rae walked off. She would call Rae, and plan the visit to the doctor’s the same day the mall was. She would cut the time’s close so that Daylnn could park in the neighbor’s parking lot, where he would see when Rae left. After Chellie returned her home, Daylnn would follow her and then the plan would end with a bang. Literally.
