I walked up to him behind the curtains. He was already in cuffs. My eyes became wet again. "Please don't cry. It's only for a little while." I looked at him with sad eyes, an anbu watching us closely. "Hey, Aneko?" I nodded at him. "You'll follow me, right?" I gulped slightly.
"Anywhere," I whispered, being the only thing I could do. I put my hand on his cheek and kissed him. He kissed back gently, knowing a lot of people were watching. We both pulled back and instantly looked down.
"Aneko, I love you," he whispered.
"I love you too, Neji. I always will, no matter what." He smiled at me slightly.
"Alright, your goodbye is over," said a deep voice. We turned to the anbu. Neji looked away immediately. "Aneko, leave."
"Can't we have one more minute?" Neji asked, almost begging.
"No. Aneko, leave." I kissed Neji one more time before walking back around the curtain, not taking my eyes off of him for as long as I could. I sat in my seat, next to Lee on my right and Tenten on my left. I tried my hardest not to cry.
"I think I know why he is being put to death," Lee whispered to me. Tenten ran off in search of someone. I looked at Lee.
"Do you?" I whispered back. Lee looked at me with sad eyes.
"Yes, I do. You and him were 'involved', were you not?" he whispered. My breath took a sharp turn, and he noticed. "Yes, that would explain it. Neji always searching around when you were late, him slowing down during our laps just to talk to you, and him saying he was busy everytime I asked to train with him at night."
"...Yeah. I was with him at night, a lot of times. Though, I would have to sneak in through the window. It's a weird story," I said. He smiled.
"I would like to hear it sometime, maybe sometime with less people around." I nodded and looked up at the sky. "I bet you have cried a lot. I know I would if the one I loved was put to death, just for being with you." I smiled, closing my eyes too.
"You have no idea..." Lee took my hand in a friendly, comforting gesture. I smiled at him. "Thank you, Lee." Silence fell as I kept the tears back. "Lee, can I tell you something...?" He looked at me and nodded.
"Anything." I took a sharp breath, glancing at the curtain once, then back to Lee.
"I love him with all my heart," I whispered. "...And he asked me to follow him after this, and I said yes." Lee's eyes widened.
"B-But you cannot! I know you love him, I do not blame you. But there are other people who care dearly for you here," he said. "Aneko, you are one of my very best friends." I smiled.
"Thanks, Lee. Again..." We laughed. "But..." Lee looked down, letting go of my hand.
"Like I said, people here love you dearly, so they will do anything to make you happy. Even if that means you dying," he said, smiling at me while laughing at the end. I hugged him.
"Thank you, thank you." I whispered. He hugged back and smiled. We both let go as Naruto ran up to us.
"Hey guys! You two together or something?!" he yelled. We both shook our heads calmly.
"No, I already like someone else," I said.
"So do I," Lee replied. Naruto pulled me out of my seat, sat down, then pulled me into his lap. I laughed. It was the first time I laughed since the beginning of this whole ordeal.
"Man, I don't even know what Neji did! This really ticks me off. I'm not gonna let this go with grandma," Naruto said.
"Ummmm..." Lee and I looked at each other. I nodded at him. "Meet us at my house tonight," I told Naruto. "We'll tell you then, midnight." Naruto blinked.
"You two know?" he asked. We both nodded, but then were dismissed to our homes so they could start...
