Prologue
The dark, as a child most of us have a fear of it, but for a select few it’s different. The fear is not of the dark itself, but of what lurks in the dark. Have you ever had that feeling of being watched? See that bit of quick movement from the corner of your eye? That’s them. You caught glimpses, we see the whole thing. Whether we want to or not.
I can barely sleep at night. I feel their stares and see their wicked grins from the shadows. I always have a light on to keep them away from the bed. I’d never sleep if they got that close. Never let them know you can see them. That’s what my great-grandmother told me. She can see them too and I don’t know what I would have done without her. My mom doesn’t believe in them because she can’t see them. She can’t see their lanky bodies and black eyes staring at you from the dark. You’ll never understand the fear unless you can see them, the Dray.
