Save you [Neji Hyuuga one-shot]

This is random one-shot that I wrote in about two hours. I got message asking to write Neji one-shot, but it's not the request. Then I saw that I still haven't written Neji one-shot yet xD It is based on the Simple Plan song - Save You. It's really good, listen to it when you have time ^^ I don't know if I did a good job, but for me this one-shot is kinda adorable ^///^ feedback would be good (you know, rates and messages^^) thanks in advance and enjoy ^_~

Take a breath I pull myself together.
Just another step until I reach the door.

Neji slowly climbed up the staircase to his room. He tossed his backpack into the corner beside the bed deciding to do his homework a little later. Neji turned on his laptop and went down to grab a bite.

This day at school was a total disaster. Normally, he was the best student alongside Sasuke, but today just wasn’t his day. Neji was almost run over by the bus near the school, he was worried for certain reasons, and to top it all off, his friend tried to commit suicide once again.

Neji was tired of taking care of her. The girl seemed to be enjoying trying to kill herself. Neji told her many times before to stop with this nonsense, but she did it repeatedly.

Neji entered the kitchen and opened the fridge. He took a carton of juice and made himself a sandwich. He ate it slowly. He drank the juice and put everything back into the fridge. Neji climbed up the stairs and went into his room. He changed from school uniform into normal clothes and went downstairs again.

Neji pondered for a few minutes if he should disturb his uncle. Neji decided that he should at least tell that he’s going out. Neji knocked on the door and when he heard his uncle telling to enter, he did.

“Uncle, I’m going out for a bit.”

“Be back before dinner.”

Neji bowed his head respectably and quietly closed the door. Neji stuffed his hands into the pockets and walked in the general hospital’s direction. He was used to this route now.

You'll never know the way it tears me up inside to see you.
I wish that I could tell you something to take it all away.

Neji slowly opened the door into the certain hospital room. He quietly shut it behind himself and cautiously approached the bed. The girl lied under the covers with oxygen mask on her face.

Neji only thought that he was tired of looking after her, but when he saw her like that, so vulnerable, he understood that without him she would be a goner.

Neji slowly sat on the edge of the bed. He carefully took her hand. Her hand was very small and pale. It seemed to Neji that he was holding child’s hand.

The girl was a year younger than him. She was bullied in school. Her mentality was fragile and all she ever wanted was to make friends. Since she was very naïve, everyone in her class thought it would be a piece of cake to bully her without her notice.

Then, Neji appeared. He had a few acquaintances in that class and he saw how everyone was being mean to her and making her do their homeworks. He opened her eyes and since then she was trying to commit suicide countless times.

Sometimes I wish I could save you,
And there's so many things that I want you to know.
I won't give up 'til it's over.
If it takes you forever, I want you to know.

The girl slowly opened her eyes. The first thing she saw was brunette guy sitting on the edge of her bed.

“Neji?” she squeaked. The brunette furrowed his brows and his right eye twitched with annoyance.

“Do you know how worried I was?” he snapped. The girl hid under the blanket and poked her head to the nose out of it. Her round blue eyes stared at Neji.

“Sorry.” Neji sighed.

“Just… don’t do it again, OK?” he asked quietly. When the girl felt it was safe, she tossed the blanket off her upper body.

“Alright.” She said smiling. Neji blushed unconsciously.

“You always say it.” Neji grumbled accusingly and the girl smiled brightly.

“As long as I have you, I have nothing to worry about.” She said and clung to Neji’s arm.

“Naomi, I’m serious.” Neji said seriously and Naomi felt her heart turning. She let go of his arm.

“Why do you care anyway?” she asked not looking at him.

“You’re my friend. I care for you, even if you don’t believe me or don’t want me to care.” Neji said solemnly.

“Please, leave. I want to rest.” Naomi said quietly and Neji stood up.

“You know my phone number. Call me anytime.” He said and walked out of her room.

“Neji, you fool.” Naomi whispered and the tears poured down her pale face.

When I hear your voice,
It's drowning in the whispers.
It's just skin and bones,
There's nothing left to take.
And no matter what I do,
I can't make you feel better.
If only I could find the answer to help me understand.

Naomi lied in the hospital bed facing the window. All she could see was buildings and sky. The sky was cloudless. Naomi wished she could be as free as a bird and fly away.

Naomi wiped her damp face. She wished Neji could see, could understand… But it was hopeless. He was hopeless. Naomi wished everything would be different.

Maybe then she wouldn’t need to hurt herself anymore. Naomi didn’t like to do that to herself. She wanted Neji’s company and it was a way for her to escape school. She hated her classmates. Naomi was genuinely glad to have someone like Neji as her friend.

Naomi wished to start her life over. She had already planned in her mind what she would have done differently than she did.

Naomi didn’t regret having met Neji in her life. Everything else was just wrong. She looked over her past actions and understood that everything had been a failure until now. If only she had the power to change the past… Neji’s image showed itself in Naomi’s mind. His handsome, smiling face that Naomi loved so much.

If Naomi had done everything differently, she and Neji could have been the couple right now. Naomi took her cell phone and flipped it open. No one messaged her or called her. Naomi searched through her address book and found Neji’s name. She pressed green button and put the phone to her ear.

“Neji? Could you come see me? I’m sorry for what I’ve said. I want to talk to you. You know you’re the only person. Alright, I’ll be waiting.” She hung up. She was going to confess to Neji when he got here. She couldn’t lose anymore than that.

Sometimes I wish I could save you,
And there's so many things that I want you to know.
I won't give up 'til it's over.
If it takes you forever, I want you to know that.

Neji was just after dinner when Naomi called him. Neji put on his shoes.

“Uncle, I’ll be right back.” He said walking out. Neji’s uncle didn’t say anything in return. He trusted Neji.

Neji walked out of his house and down the street towards hospital. He just couldn’t stop wondering what Naomi wanted to tell him. Neji felt anxious a bit.

He entered the main building and headed to the third floor. Neji didn’t have enough patience to wait for the lift, so he hopped up the stairs.

Neji stopped in front of Naomi’s room door. He hesitated before pressing the knob and entering the room. Naomi sat in bed and turned her head to look at the person when she heard the door opening. When she saw it was Neji, she patted the bed.

“Sit here.” She asked quietly and Neji was surprised to do actually as she said him to. “I wanted to tell you something for some time now.” Naomi spoke quietly and Neji had to hold his breath in if he wanted to hear her.

“What is it?” Neji asked cautiously.

“You know, I’ve been wondering for some time now what this feeling that I feel towards you is. I wanted to tell you in case I really die. And I came to the conclusion that I like you.” Naomi said and blushed immediately. She turned her head away so that Neji wouldn’t notice her blush.

“I won’t let you die.” Neji said and hugged fragile girl. Naomi felt relieved and tears poured out of her eyes.

If you fall, stumble down, I'll pick you up off the ground.
If you lose faith in you, I'll give you strength to pull through.
Tell me you won't give up,
'Cause I'll be waiting if you fall.
You know I'll be there for you.

“Does it mean that…” Naomi trailed off looking into Neji’s eyes and searching for the answer. Neji wiped away her tears.

“Yeah.” He answered to her unasked question and hugged her again.

If only I could find the answer to take it all away.

This time Naomi reluctantly hugged Neji back by wrapping her thin arms around his broad back.

“Thank you for being there for me.” Naomi said nuzzling Neji’s chest. He stroked her back gently.

Sometimes I wish I could save you,
And there's so many things that I want you to know.
I won't give up 'til it's over.
If it takes you forever, I want you to know.

Neji pulled away slightly, but still held Naomi. He brushed the lock of her hair out of her face and cupped Naomi’s left cheek. Naomi unconsciously leaned into Neji’s hand. He caressed Naomi’s cheek and then withdrew his hand.

Neji understood how fragile and vulnerable this girl was. He wanted to protect her from everyone and everything. Neji leaned in and kissed Naomi’s forehead. Naomi blushed bright red.

“I promise I will protect you now and always.” He said and kissed her on the lips. The kiss was light and sweet and Neji knew he made the right choice back then when he saved her.

I wish I could save you.
I want you to know.
I wish I could save you.
