Knitting Patterns - why you need new ones

Created by gemmaedwards on Thursday, May 14, 2009

Knitting Patterns can be a great way to learn to knit something new, and so improve your knitting. If you have always knitted the same sort of thing, why not see if some different knitting patterns can help you to knit something new and exciting? If you’ve always wanted to learn to knit, then why not see if you can follow some basic knitting patterns and teach yourself to knit?

If you’ve tried knitting before, or maybe you already knit scarves, or hats, or baby clothes for your friends and family, and could do with trying something new. What about knitting something a bit more complicated? Why not have a go at knitting something like a jumper or a cardigan for change? You’ll be amazed at the amount of money you can save, and feel a great sense of achievement once you’ve finished.

If you’ve lost your enthusiasm for knitting, and haven’t picked up your needles in a long time, knitting patterns could be just what you need to inspire you to knit again. Perhaps you stopped knitting when the children you used to knit for grew up, or your family moved away.

By knitting your own clothes, you don’t have to worry about sizes, as you can measure yourself or the person you’re knitting for properly. If you struggle to find jumpers to fit as sizes vary between shops, or you like longer or shorter arms or body, then being able to knit you own will mean that you get the exact size and length you want. You can also make sure that you have plenty of hats and gloves ready for winter, as somebody in your family is bound to lose them, or leave them at school at the weekend.

As you improve, and gain more confidence with your needles, you might want to try different sorts of wools, or using different colours, or trying knitting patterns that are creative as well as practical.

Knitting is popular with all age groups, not just the older generation. You’d be surprised to know that many celebrities are keen on knitting, and children and the younger generation are often keen on learning to knit, especially if there is someone in the household who knits already.

Using knitting patterns is a great way to keep the hands and brain active and is especially good for those people who can’t get out or exercise as much as they would like to.

If you’d like to try knitting and saving yourself time and money, isn’t it time you looked for some new knitting patterns, and started knitting?
