This is for MilkChocolate143, who decided to go for Seigaku. ^_^ Surprisingly, it’s Fuji. =D

__________

Kiriyama Akane was walking in the streets of Chiba. She was with the prodigy Fuji Syusuke.

“Akane-chan, what’s your ideal present for Valentine’s Day?” asked Fuji. Akane thought it over.

“There are so many to choose from, I don’t know!” she pouted. “I would really like a stuffed animal, though.” Fuji smiled.

“I see.”

“What about you, Syusuke-kun?” she asked. He thought it over also.

“Hm… A new camera. So I can take more pictures.”

“It’s Valentine’s Day, not your birthday!” she complained.

“I’m just joking. One flower is just fine. One flower can be used to express so many things,” he said. “Especially a red rose.”

The two stopped in front of the park’s fountain. It looked especially pretty today, with the water sparkling out from both sides and the sunlight reflected off of the water.

“The fountain looks especially pretty today, doesn’t it?” asked Akane.

“Mm.”

“This is my favorite place to be in. I’d rather be here instead of at home by myself…” Akane said. “I believe that the fountain gives a power that makes wishes come true.”

“Power? Wishes? Akane-chan, aren’t we a little too old for this stuff?” asked Fuji. He laughed a little in the middle of his comment.

“You can never be too old for anything, Syusuke-kun~” Akane said. “My 13-year old brother still believes in Santa.”

“Eh? Is that true?” Fuji asked. He laughed louder this time. “That’s cute. Santa is still in the hearts of many people, teenagers and toddlers alike.”

Akane smiled widely. “I would like to have my first kiss here. It’s just so romantic…”

Fuji’s smile shortened a little. He had a crush on Akane the first time they met; now he was starting to doubt if she liked him also.

“Syusuke-kun, promise that you’ll never leave. I don’t want to be separated from my best friend.”

‘That’s all I am to her, huh…? A friend…’

“That’s a promise that I can’t keep, Akane-chan…” he whispered. Akane didn’t hear.

“Hm? What did you say?” she asked. Fuji faked a smile.

“Of course I’ll stay. I’ll never leave,” he lied. Akane grinned.

“All right!! Thank you, Syusuke-kun! Let’s meet over here tomorrow, OK?”

“OK. I’ll definitely come.”

But the next day, which was Valentine’s Day, he never came to the fountain. Akane’s heart was broken when she found out that he moved to Tokyo. He left Chiba. What was worse, he had left her.

“I didn’t want to leave… But I had to… I couldn’t spend my last Valentine’s Day in Chiba with you, Akane-chan. I just couldn’t.”

***

Fuji Syusuke woke up with a start. He was sweating like crazy and his eyes were filled with shock. It was a replay of his last moments in Chiba. A painful and torturing replay.

“A dream…?” he muttered. “Why did this come back to haunt me…?”

Knock. Knock.

“Ah, come in,” Fuji said. His sister Yumiko poked her head in his room.

“Syusuke, I have a letter for you. Hurry up downstairs. It’s on the coffee table.”

‘A letter… Probably from Eiji or Oishi. Or perhaps Tezuka, still in Germany.’

“And Happy Valentine’s Day. I hope you get a lot of chocolates and gifts today,” his sister said cheerfully.

“Thank you, nee-san. I’ll be right down there.”

“Actually, I think you should just put it in your backpack. You’re going to be late if you read it downstairs.”

He checked the time. Only thirty minutes left until class starts.

“Why didn’t you wake me up before…?” he muttered.

***

“Fuji Syusuke?”

“Ah, here,” he said, panting. He arrived just on time, but the teacher was already taking role call. It was a relief that he didn’t get to his name.

“Kikumaru Eiji?”

“Hoi-hoi! Right here!” Eiji said cheerfully. The girls giggled at his childish-like behavior, while the boys gave off small grins. Their smiles would have been bigger, but perhaps they were jealous that Fuji and Eiji got all of the girls’ attention.

As the teacher continued taking role call, Eiji whispered to Fuji.

“This is the first time I’ve ever seen you late. What happened back at home?”

“Ah, I overslept. Sorry.”

“It’s OK! Well, Oishi will ask you what happened later on as you skipped practice…”

“I don’t mind at all.”

***

“Oh, Fuji, you have so many boxes and letters!”

Almost all of the people in the hallway were looking at Fuji Syusuke. He just opened his locker, and all of these letters and boxes came tumbling out.

“Fuji! Can you lend some to me?”

“I don’t mind, but don’t you have as much?”

Eiji thought about it, and opened his locker, which was right next to Fuji’s. A smaller amount of letters and chocolates came out, but it was still a lot.

“Nya, I thought I would beat you in terms of gifts…” Eiji complained. “I won’t lose next year!”

Fuji laughed. Then he remembered the letter that Yumiko had reminded him of. He took it out and opened it. Eiji was too busy counting all of the gifts he received.

To Fuji Syusuke,

I hope that you’re doing well. Rokkaku Middle School hasn’t changed a bit until we had some an unexpected turn of events.

‘Must be Saeki,’ Fuji assumed. He was wrong, however.

If it’s not a bother, come over to Rokkaku and look at the park’s fountain. I’ll be waiting.

Oh, and Happy Valentine’s Day. Syusuke-kun.

Love,

Kiriyama Akane

Fuji couldn’t believe it when he read who it was sent from.

‘Akane-chan still remembers…? I thought…’

Fuji took out a piece of paper and wrote.

To Kiriyama Akane

It’s been a while! I haven’t seen you in years. I’m actually surprised that you still remember me; let alone know my new (not really new) address. But it’s OK. I’m glad to see that you’re doing well. Seishun Gakuen hasn’t changed ever since I got here. I hope Rokkaku doesn’t change also. Stay as you are; you’re perfect as you are.

Love,

Fuji Syusuke

‘There’s still a chance… Still a chance that I could celebrate Valentine’s Day with her again. Last Valentine’s Day, nonsense!’ Fuji thought, smiling. The nightmare was not a nightmare anymore. It had helped Fuji regain his memories of his distant love.

And this Valentine’s Day won’t be the last.

__________

This is probably the longest I’ve ever written. @_@ But it’s OK; I had fun~! ^O^

Again, this is to MilkChocolate143. Thanks again; hope you like it~! ^_^
