Fishing Tackle doesn’t have to be expensive, but if you get it wrong, then it can be a costly mistake that you’ll regret. If you get it very wrong, you might not be able to go fishing at all, as the fishing tackle you’ve bought isn’t suitable for the river, lake or sea you’re fishing in, the fish you hope to catch, or doesn’t fit you properly meaning that it’s uncomfortable or just isn’t right.

Fishing Rods should be comfortable, and right for the job. There’s no point buying a fishing rod if it’s not right for you, even if it’s a real bargain. Make sure that you can easily assemble and disassemble the rod. If you can’t doi it with warm and dry hands, then you’ll struggle to it with cold wet hands after a hard days fishing. You might decide to spend a bit more money, and get a more comfortable or better rod. If you think that you’ll get the use out of it, and appreciate the benefits, then it may not be expensive, but more of an investment. The wrong rod won’t get used, and you’ll end up buying another rod to replace it. It makes sense to get it right this time.

The Fishing Reels you choose need to be able to do what you want them to do. If you fish mainly for trout, then you will probably prefer to feed the line through by hand, but if you fish for salmon, you’ll probably use the handle on your reel. You might also prefer a multiplying reel, or a standard reel, if you want to catch salmon. You might prefer to have different reels for different rods, or for different times of year. If you don’t know what sort of reel you want, you can always ask somebody who fishes.

The right fly fishing lines for you will depend on where you are fishing, and what you are going to catch. Fishing in a boat at sea, you’ll be catching different sorts of fish compared to those anglers who are sitting on the side of a lake, or standing in a river. The type and so weight of the fish, and whether you are using floatants or sinkants can also help to determine which line is right for you.

Many anglers will have their own favourite fly fishing flies depending on what they are fishing for and where they are fishing. The weather, time of year, and even the time of day can also make a difference. You might already know what sort of bait and flies you like using.

Good quality fishing waders will be essential if you spend a lot of time in the water. You will need to stay warm and dry and keep your footing in fast moving currents, or strong winds. If you’ve got waders already, and think that you need some better ones, that are perhaps warmer, or are easier to walk in, then maybe it’s time for some new ones.

Many other fishing accessories can make your fishing time more productive. From fishing nets to more hooks and bait, or tackle bags and boxes, scales and even insect repellent, you might find that there are some things that you really can’t manage without.

If you’re taking up fishing, or are already an expert angler, you can probably never have too much fishing gear! If you need a new fishing rod, some new waders or just want a new fishing tackle bag, why not treat yourself?
