[Wake up]

Yukimura Seiichi sat down beside the hospital bed and held the sleeping girl’s hand, smiling, like always. “I came again, Satu.” He said to the golden-haired girl, but there was no reply, bacause she is asleep...since she was a child. “Are you dreaming a fairytale [*Satu means 'fairytale'], Satu?” Yukimura asked the girl jokingly. And as expected, she didn’t reply.

The golden-haired girl’s name is Kin Satu, a patient in the hospital Yukimura is in. She has radiant blonde hair and, according to her doctor who is also her adoptive father, emerald green eyes.

“What idiots your real parents are, disowning you like that…” Yukimura said, looking at Satu sadly. Yes, Satu has been disowned by her real parents and adopted by Touya Ayame. Yukimura heard from Ayame that Satu’s parents were tired of having a child like her, and it might also be because they were tired of paying the hospital bills.

Yukimura heard the hospital room door open, but he did not turn to see who it was, instead, he was still holding Satu’s hand, staring at her with his sapphire eyes. “Ah, Seiichi-kun, you’re here as expected.” A familiar voice rang in the room.

“Hello, Ayame-san.” Yukimura said, recognizing the voice but still not looking at the doctor. “Can you…tell me more about Satu?” Yukimura asked. Ayame smiled widely, cheerfully sitting on Satu’s bed.

“Of course; I don’t have much to do and I’m not in a hurry so I might tell you more than usual!” Ayame said with his usual cheerful and happy-go-lucky tone. Yukimura’s smile widened, happy he’ll be able to know more about his…friend. “Satu-chan was a cheerful and healthy girl, her smile was the brightest and kindest I’ve seen…” Ayame said, his expression looked like he was remembering an old, happy memory—which probably he is.

“She would always come to my house and ask ‘Ayame-san, please help me with this formula!’” Ayame said with a grin. “She was never a person for Math…and I would waste time teaching her for nothing. But I always enjoyed her company. I treated her as my own daughter.” Ayame said, smiling at the sleeping Satu with parent-like love.

“What about her real parents?” Yukimura asked. “Are they good to her?” Ayame shook his head, sighing. This made Yukimura frown slightly.

“They…treated her like a useless dog,” Ayame said then added: “Until her 10th birthday.” He said grimly.

“What happened on her 10th birthday?” Yukimura asked, curious and saddened.

“Her family was on the verge of bankruptcy, and he didn’t know what to do.” Ayame said. “One Satu’s birthday, one of her father’s—rich—friends suggested that Satu marry his son in the near future, and of course, he agreed.” Ayame said, looking sadly at Satu. “Satu happened to be listening to their conversation and ran outside her house…the exact time when a speeding van was passing…she…” Ayame trailed off, not wanting to continue; he doesn’t need to, Yukimura already knew what happened.

Yukimura gripped Satu’s hand more tightly, looking at her with pity. “Satu…” He said in a whisper, placing Satu’s hand on his lips. Ayame looked at the two with amusement and smiled.

“I leave you two now, I’m getting ice cream~” Ayame said with a kitty grin and pig blush on his face. He stood up and walked toward the door. “Bah-bye, Seiichi-kun,” Ayame said before adding and opening the door. He looked at Satu, smiling. “Satu...” He said and closed the door behind him.

Yukimura smiled (like always) and turned to Satu. “Satu…you’ve had a horrible experience…” He said. “Being unneeded…then being needed for the wrong reasons…” He said.

“Satu…” He said. “I’ve wanted to say this when you wake up but…I just couldn’t help myself anymore…” He said, trying hard not to cry. “Satu…I love you…I don’t know how but I do…” He said, a tear falling on the hospital bed. “So please…wake up.” He pleaded, tears now streaming like a waterfall.

At that moment, Satu’s hand twitched.
