If you just have few hens that you can move around your yard then portable chicken coop designs would be perfect for you. Chicken coop designs or chicken tractors are small coops with small area for roosting, eating, drinking, laying eggs and foraging. Since the coop is moved to places you are sure that your chicken will have enough grass and bugs for food and supplement.
You may come to think why you would need a portable chicken coop design. Well, moving the chickens keep them safe and secure while giving them new foraging grounds. They won't run out of grass and bugs to eat while their waste can be used as fertilizers for your soil. If you won't move your chicken your soil will be muddy when it rains because they can reduce an area down to bare earth.
An ark is an example of a portable chicken coop designs. AN ark is a triangular A-frame with wide base at the bottom and the peak at the top. Arks can be small or big. The only thing to consider is its portability, if you can carry it to move it around. The ark is intended to have a run and a coop. One third of the portion would ideally be the coop to hold perchers and nest boxes and the rest would be the run.Doors on the opposite side of the coop would let you in to feed the chickens, gather eggs and for cleaning purposes. It also has a small opening intended for the chicken into the run. Arks can be attached to a long poles for lifting and moving.

Another type of A-frame portable chicken coop design is a coop in the top third of the A-frame and the chicken run beneath it. The coop provides shade this way, and the chickens are able to sleep up off the ground in a protected area. Small doors at each end let you in to clean and gather eggs. These coops are generally built to house two to four hens and are moved by hand.
Small portable chicken coop designs can also be creative and imaginative. Build a coop that has wheels so it can be moved around easily by a single person, or one that can be separated from a run for moving. Portable runs can be made from wire and PVC. You can even use a dog house as the coop itself with a few modifications to make it easy to access for egg gathering and cleaning.
