As more people get worried about the economy and quality of their food many are choosing to keep few chickens in their backyard. A backyard flock can give fresh eggs that are higher in vitamins and minerals because they have access to grass and bugs as their feeds.
If you decide to be one of the people who keep backyard flocks then you'll need a secure coop for these birds. You can find some good chicken coop designs over the Internet with variety of small pleasant houses for the chickens. You can make a chicken coop whichever you like. It can be fancy or simple. Chickens don't care of the appearance of their house as long as it's comfortable and fed.
You'll want to think of some the chickens' safety and security if its hot or cold as they would need to deal with it. You would also want to keep them away from predators that might kill and eat them. There are chicken coop designs that will allow you to use recycled materials so you can save more money in building a coop. A henhouse should include nest boxes where they can lay its eggs and room for perches.
The coop doesn't need to be large if the pens are large or if they can range outdoors in your yard. If they are confined in the coop find a chicken coop design that will allow more space per room as the chicken would need it.
There are chicken coop designs for stationary coops and for movable coop, both can be attractive and useful. It is up to you whether you want to have a stationary chicken coop or if you want to move around your coop.
