Fishing Tackle doesn’t have to be expensive, but if you get it wrong, then it can be a costly mistake. The wrong fishing tackle might mean that you can’t go fishing because the tackle you’ve bought isn’t right for what you’re fishing for, where you’re fishing, or just simply isn’t right for you.

Fishing Rods

Fishing rods need to be comfortable, and be the right rod for the job. It’s a false economy to buy a reduced fishing rod at a bargain price if it’s only suitable for sea fishing, and you fish in rivers and lakes. It’s not a bargain if the rod you’re considering is too long, short or heavy for what you want it for. Make sure that you put the fishing rod together, and take it apart again in the shop so that you know how to do it. Also, if you’re struggling to do this even with warm dry hands, imagine what it’ll be like if your hands are cold and wet. You may think that it’s worth buying the fishing rod that’s the most comfortable and the easiest to use. A fishing rod that’s not quite right won’t get used as much, and will be a false economy. If you’re a keen angler then you’ll know how much use you’ll get out of your rod.

Fishing Reels

Fishing Reels need to be right for the type of fishing you’ll be doing too. If you fish for trout, then you might feed the line through by hand, but if you fish for salmon, you probably won’t do. You might be considering a multiplying reel, or want a standard reel. If you don’t know what sort of reel you want, why not ask somebody else who fishes, or see what other more experienced anglers use?

Fly Fishing Lines

Like rods and reels, the right fly fishing line will again depend somewhat on where you are fishing and what sort of fish you will be catching. If you’re fishing from a boat in the sea you’ll be catching different sorts of fish compared to if you were fishing from the edge of a lake. The weight of the fish and whether you are using floatants or sinkants also makes a difference to the type of line that you’ll need.

Fishing Bait

There are many tried and tested baits, and local anglers will often have their own favourite flies and methods of catching fish, depending on what they are fishing for and where. Also the time of year, and even the time of day can play an important part in catching fish. You might have your own personal bait preference already, or enjoy making your own flies.

Fishing Waders

If you’re spending a lot of your time in the water when fishing, then long lasting quality waders will be essential. You will want to stay warm and dry, so that you can stay in the water for as long as you need to. If you don’t think that you’ll wear your waders much, then you might be better off getting a cheaper pair, and seeing how you get on. Once you know that you like standing in the water all day, then you can get a better pair of waders.

Fishing Accessories

There are many fishing accessories available that you may find invaluable. If you’re new to fishing, why not see what other people are using, or what your friends recommend? Small things like fishing nets or more hooks, or tackle bags, scales and even insect repellent, might not be important whilst you are in the shop, but once out fishing, then you might find that there are some fishing accessories are invaluable.

Whether you’re new to fishing, or an expert, why not check that you’ve got all the right tackle you need?
