What's KRILL OIL ?
Krill is shrimp-like crustaceans that are just about 1 - 6 centimetres long. They exist in the deep sea, where they consume mainly on phytoplankton.
Krill oil, the oil that's discovered abundantly in krill, is taken out and advertised as a wellness supplement. It's sold in many health food shops and online in capsulate form.
Krill oil contains omega-3 fatty acids, which is the main reason it's becoming popular as a nutritional supplement.
Another reason why krill oil is becoming well known is because it has an antioxidant called as astaxanthin. The algae that krill consume produces the shinny red pigment astaxanthin that makes krill and some other crustaceans e.g. lobster and shrimp their reddish-pink coloration.
Krill oil carries vitamin E, vitamin A, vitamin D and canthaxanthin, which is, alike astaxanthin, a powerful anti-oxidant. The anti-oxidant effectiveness of krill oil is such that when equated to fish oil in terms of ORAC (Oxygen radical absorptance capacity) numbers it was found to be fourty eight times more effective than fish oil.
The astaxanthin discovered in krill oil supplies excellent protection against ultravoilet light and UV-induced skin harm. It was for this rground that I began taking krill oil to begin with-I only discovered its other virtues afterwards.
It has been shown to be efficient in treating the pain and inflammation from rheumatoid arthritis and aches and pains as a whole. In all these studies krill oil was tested against fish oil and not merely a placebo.
And there are no other side effects to speak of. The jury is out right now on if and to what degree there is a problem for those people allergic to shrimp. Until the jury is in, I would be careful in taking krill oil if I had a shrimp allergy.
Is Krill Oil better than Fish Oil ?
The Antioxidant Potency of Krill Oil is 48 Times Higher than Fish Oil.
Antioxidants are your body's main process to weaken free radicals -- those harmful metabolic by-products that hurt cells and tissues throughout your body. Scientific report evidence has repeatedly attested that antioxidants are a cornerstone in the promotion of heart wellness, boosting your immune system, and memory support. They also appear to play a role in helping to slow your signs of aging.
Although many foods contain antioxidants, today's poor-quality diets are nearly always insufficient in the full range of these beneficial free radical scavengers.
So when you think that the anti-oxidant potency of krill oil is 48 times more potent than fish oil, well, deciding between the two is a no brainer.
If you're still not convinced of the antioxidant powers to krill oil, independent ORAC evaluations have also established that genuine Neptune krill oil contains:
· Over 300 times the antioxidant strength of vitamin A and vitamin E
· Over 34 times the antioxidant power of coenzyme Q-10
To top it all off, krill oil also contains astaxanthin - a unique marine-source flavonoid - that produces a special bond with the EPA and DHA, which permits direct metabolism of the antioxidants, making them more bioavailable.
