Two men stood over a metal platform bed, in the middle of a hospital room underground. Both wore long white medical robes, and were intent on they’re work, both holding lasers, and inspecting the patient on the bed. A young girl unconscious, with short sharp amber hair—her face pale and unaffected by her surrounds, her small hands folded at her chest. Her body was still, small breath’s moving her form.

One of the healers looked up his expression unsure. “Are you sure she’ll survive this? I mean she’s so…small” He asked his companion glancing down at the girl laying between them. The other healer looked up from his work, and glanced at the girl as well. “It’s not our job to question that, our orders were to go through the procedure, so that is what we are doing.” The first healer nodded, but still looked skeptical.

They both bent over the girl once again. The second healer raised a small blade like knife, and held it to her arm. He pressed it quietly to her mooncolored skin, and slide it sharply down to cut. Blood flowed out and the first healer quickly reacted to move his hands feverishly fast over her wound, the jutsu action created a shield like bubble around the wound, the girl now would feel nothing.

The first healer looked up from the wound his face determined. “Ready?” He asked. The second Healer enlighted his laser, and it made a birring sound with it’s activation. He bent slightly and shielded his eyes from the glow of the torch. “No, but I never will be.”

A Month later….

“Oi Kakashi-Sensei!” Naruto bellowed after his teacher.

The spiky gray haired man turned and faced his rather rude pupil, his expression weary. His ears still ringing from Naruto’s loud voice following him for the past hour. “What is it now Naruto?”

Naruto looking agitated marched up to him and folded his arms. “I’ve been trying to tell you since forever, I’m not going on this stupid mission; why didn’t you just tell grandpa that we refused!”

Kakashi sighed, then answered Naruto as calmly as he could.

“We can’t refuse a direct order from the Hokage Naruto, it is part of our duty as shinobi to complete these missions for people that request them.”

Naruto pursed his lips, looking as usual stubborn. “Why can’t anyone else do them?”

Kakashi looked at him glumly; annoyed at having to explain the whole thing yet again. “For the last time Naruto, even the strongest shinobi have to go through these chores, they just have more harder chores.”

“Then why do we get something so lame anyway?” Naruto whined. He was answered by a sharp WACK to the head by the pink haired girl behind him, his fellow teammate, Sakura.

“Stop complaining Naruto, you’re wasting time when we could have been there by now!”

“Owww!” Naruto howled. “That really hurt Sakura-Chan!”

“Good” Sakura replied scowling as she turned away, crossing her arms.

“Now now you two, save the fighting for later when we’re back home, first off we gotta get to the scheduled location.” Kakashi explained with a sweat drop at the side of his head.

The group continued on toward Sukai Village, where they were ordered to help guard the construction of the guardian center there.

Airi sat on a bench in front of the hospital center in Sukai village, her highly bandaged arms laid on her lap, hiding a velvet letter on her lap. A stuffed animal, ruined and bloodied lay limply beside the bench on the floor. The girl’s head was lowered over her lap, her face hidden. The same thought went through her head, over and over again. It was so unfair, so totally unfair, how much more could it hurt. One of her hands clasped tightly over the other one, and she grimaced as another round of pain shook her slim body. She couldn’t remember anything about the operation, but still so many months after it had happened, she felt the pain agonize her body every single day. But…whenever she felt a round of ail coming on she just thought of her parents; remembering that she had to become stronger, that if she did, she would be able to avenge them.

A figure flashed to Airi’s side, a young woman probably in her late 20’s, her hair cut long on one side and short on the other, wearing a black slick jumpsuit with many cuts and two katachi swords at he side, as well as a black pelt on one side. She wore heeled black shoes that made her about two inches than she really was.

Airi looked up almost cracking her neck because of how high she had to look. “Paine” She murmured her face shimmering with tears.

Paine looked down at her pupil, her face surprised, then forced into strictness. She bent down to Airi’s level and grasped her chin forcing her to stare directly into hers. “Stop thinking about your parents, they are long gone…all you can do now is grow stronger for them, isn’t that what you kept telling me?”

Airi nodded sniffling once. “I know…I’m sorry”

Pain straightened up and held out a hand to Airi, a kind smile on her face. “C’mon chick, better get to the our scheduled place to be, we’re gonna be meeting your patient today rmember?”

Airi nodded and grasped her masters hand, allowing it to lift her up from the seat. She winced slightly but tried to look as if nothing had happened. Paine didn’t know that she still hurt from the operation, and she wanted it to stay that way. She was already being enough of a crybaby around her master. They walked together a few feet before Airi yelled out and turned around running back to the bench, there forgotten and muddy was sue. Her toy rabbit since she was a kid, Airi frowned and bent down to pick up sue. It was so rough now, caked by dirt, and blood, and salty tears; it definitely needed to be washed a few good times. But now that Airi thought of it, sue was a big sign of how weak she was, she always clinged to it like it was the only thing with meaning in the earth. It showed how pathetic she still was. Airi clenched one of her fists, and released the hand that was holding sue, the toy bunny fell back to the sunny caked ground. She was about to turn around, but a form came up beside her and reached down to pick sue up again. Paine turned to her and grasped one of her hands, placing sue back into her hand. “Never let go of your past memories, no matter how much you dislike or regret them”

Paine clasped one reassuring hand on Airi’s shoulder and walked past her, Airi stared down at the stained, ripped, and broken toy in her hand. Her master’s words rang in her ears. “Never let go of your past memories…no matter how much you dislike or regret them…” Airi smiled and zipped open her side bag, she dropped in sue gently and zipped it closed again. She turned and ran after her master, who was waiting at the corner as always.

Airi followed her master’s back as they walked through the small streetways of the village, heading toward the center of town. From what she knew they were supposed to meet near the construction of the new guardian center. A guardian center was a building used to store missions, guardians when waiting for a patient to pick them up, or other matters concerning guardians such as her master and herself. They broke free of one winding street and Airi finally saw the building construction she had been hearing for the past few minutes. Airi’s face turned bewitched as she looked up into the half finished building looming over them. “Wah, it’s so big Paine-Sensei!” Airi wondered aloud. Beside her Paine laughed openly. “Of course it is, this building will be the largest one in the whole village. People will depend on this place to produce security, food, information and other things”

“What other things?” Airi asked looking to her master as they walked closer to the building.

“Livestock, weapons, important documents, and…us” Paine explained.

“Us?” Airi repeated tilting her head.

“Yes…us” Paine said, throwing Airi a quick smile.

Paine grasped one of Airi’s arms and led her to the right of the soon to be guardian center, to a small sushi shop. Airi noticed at once the group in front of the shop, among the regular village people they stood out quite well. Especially the blonde boy in a orange jumpsuit who seemed rather upset because of the volume of his voice. Paine led her to them and spoke pushing her slightly forward. “Kakashi, long time no see” Paine said a natural smile on her face that Airi didn’t see often. “Got here okay?”

The man she was speaking to, stood beside three other kids about the same size as Airi. He had spiky gray hair, and a headband hiding one eye. But she liked him pretty quickly because of his warm smile down at her before answering. “More or less” He then bent down to Airi and studied her with his black eyes. “You must be Airi right?”

She nodded.

He reached out a gloved hand to her. “It’s nice to meet you Airi, my name is Hatake Kakashi, and these guys behind me are my students.”

Airi took his hand and shook it up and down lightly. She gave him a practiced smile. “Nice to meet…all of you”

The boy she had spotted first earlier walked up beside Kakashi and grinned childishly at her. “I’m Uzumaki Naruto, the next hokage of my village”

Airi couldn’t help herself from smiling naturally. The boy seemed so full of himself, and head-strong, just by the way he carried himself told her so much about him”

“Hokage? What’s that?” She asked him her face curious.

Naruto gaped at her; “You don’t know what a Hokage is?!”

Airi sweat-dropped and leaned away from him slightly, because of how close he had slid up to her in his excitement. “No I’m sorry, I guess I don’t”

The boy looked about to launch into a long, and perhaps interesting tale when one of his companions a pink haired girl hit him on the head, making Airi’s eyes widen.

“Naruto you didn’t even give Sasuke-Kun or me time to introduce ourselves yet!”

Naruto looked up at her with puppy dog eyes. “But…but Sakura-Chan I was about to help her, she didn’t know what a Hokage is”

Sakura-Chan looked mighty violent to Airi right now so she quickly stepped in between them.

Um it’s alright Uzumaki-Kun, I’ll just look it up later.” She turned to Sakura. “It’s really nice to meet you too, I thought I would be the only female besides Paine and me”

Airi seemed to have said the right thing, because Sakura smiled. “Me too, Kakashi-Sensei didn’t tell us that we were meeting up with two girls”

Airi turned to the last person, a boy with raven spiky hair. His eyes as black as a crow. His face cold. He didn’t look happy to be here, and he surveyed her without interest, only impatience. Airi’s smile disappeared and she bent her back bowing to the remaining teammate. Then she turned away, back to Sakura and Naruto.

Behind the group Kakashi spoke to Paine, his voice amused. “Think they’ll get along?”

Paine smirked. “We’ll see won’t we”
