“What did your cousin ask you about during lunch?” Kevin asked handing me a cold Pepsi, “Let me guess was it something about me again?”

I laughed lightly raising the can in towards the ceiling, “Isn’t it always.”

“I pity you,” He shrugged as he slid down the back of the couch, “Your family seems very tough on you, it’s not your fault that your boyfriend was being a jerk to you”

“Hey can I ask you a question?” he mumbled a yes, “Do you believe in monsters?”

“Like the boogie man that lives under your bed, or maybe the girl from the ring?” He laughed, “Why do you?”

I scoffed looking down over to the back, “Not those kind of monsters, although I do think that little girl is a freak show,” I shook my head glaring down, “I mean like vampires and werewolves”

“No.”

He looked back up his dark eyes flaming and I nodded back stiffly an awkward smile on my lips as I pulled back and began to stare at the blank television once again. I was being stupid to actually give a second thought to Jacob’s words about Kevin being some vampire – or whatever more mythical creature there is in this crummy world.
Kevin was Kevin like I was Nicole; the girl whose family hates her, back at home her parents are in debt, broke her soulmate’s heart and is hanging out with a person her dog hates. I am myself, my pitiful, bratty self. Perfect.

“So Jacob thought I was a vampire/werewolf monster thing?” He laughed breaking to long silence, “You sure his head on straight?”

I threw back a throw pillow earning a chuckle from him, “My cousin is perfectly fine in body and mind buddy, you know Jake is pretty smart!”

“You say really nice things to a family that’s pretty harsh to you,” He commented looking up smiling softly, “You need to toughen up a bit Nicks”

“Shut u-”

I let out a small scream of fright as I fell out the couch and onto Kevin’s lap hearing the door slam open and a load, angry voice stopping me from my sentence. Kevin’s mom stood there glaring around the room and landing her coal black eyes on her son, ignoring the fact that I was blushing like mad on his lap.
His mother had always either left me speechless with fear or in envy because when she was calm and didn’t seem like looking through your soul, her sharp features was beautiful. But when she was pissed off, even if just playfully with her son, it was like a hissing cat her already dark eyes turning into nothing and her sharpen features twisting into something else. Cruel beauty.

She breathed in deeply and exhaling slowly calming herself down, “Nicole,” She paced herself, “There’s... uh some people outside for you. I think”

“Frick mom,” Kevin hissed helping me up, “You scared the freaking skin off of us!”

I stifled a laugh giving a short hug to Kevin, “its fine, I should get leaving anyway, thanks for letting me stay over Mrs. Lark”

“You take care out there sweetie,” She mumbled walking towards her room

“What about your backpack?” Kevin hollered

I paused looking over my shoulder, “just bring it to school tomorrow,” I grinned winking at him, “That also means with my homework done, please and thank you!”

...

It was night already, past eleven and sure as hell was it dark with only a few stars in the sky; there wasn’t even a single lamp outside beside the porch light (which Kevin must have turned off) so I was alone in the dark surrounded by the freaking woods. Lucky me.
I wasn’t sure what Kevin’s mom was talking about because I couldn’t see any other car beside her old, white Toyota and I was sure Jacob would be smart enough to at least show some light for me. I turned sharply to the side were the trees were the thickest seeing some sort of soft, red light flashing. Great, I’m sure it’s the vampire the pack was chasing after and now it wants to eat me too, in the freaking woods.

“Jacob,” I mumbled randomly pushing aside branches at they attacked my face, “This isn’t funny” I whined

The further I went in it felt like the light was going further away, it felt like hours walking through the trees the red flashing light not coming any closer to my freezing body. Suddenly I was having second thoughts of it being my cousin, maybe it was another member of the pack. Paul? “Paul,” I hissed, “If you trying to play a joke on me I’m going to call Emmett to kick your ass, you flipping ass” I cursed only to receive nothing.
Just as I began to panic and decide I should to run back I tripped over something that felt like large fallen branches, cursing out softly under my breath as I felt my body fall to the ground. With my amazing luck I began to roll down a hill and was stopped by somebody cold, bare legs. My world spinning and the red light shining onto my face wasn’t helping me at all either. Some sort of words were being passed down between the owner of the legs with a couple of other people who I couldn’t name, or see with the lack of lighting, but just as the person who held the flashlight lifted the thing up, I gasped. Good lord it was a vampire.
