Thoughts on The HIGHEST RATED List (Insightful Read, Hopefully)

Note: I don't mean to offend anyone, this is only for reading purposes. And hopefully, will get people thinking about their stories. All writers listed here are for example purposes only, and are all really skilled in writing. They're on Highest Rated after all, right? :) Quote: Pointing out the obvious is the dirtiest way to get on the highest rated list. I agree with that 100%. I just want responses to this, that's all.

I sometimes wonder, how is it possible to be on Highest Rated? I mean... when you start out in Quizilla, most people's aim/dream is to be on that list of superior writers, that everyone here seems to love. To be adored by people, who actually love and appreciate your work. This is such an aim, that writers here have the tendency to get angry, wailing about not having enough rates, threatening their "non existant readers" that they'll stop writing. I hate seeing posts about these people saying they're leaving because no one reads their stuff, no one rates them either. That's life. Deal with it.
Even some writers on Highest Rated STILL complain about getting low rates.

YOU'RE ALREADY ON THE LIST! WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT? Some people don't get SHIT for their quizzes, yet you're already on the list, and STILL COMPLAINING?! It disgusts me, and of course, it's just plain rude to all those who want to be on the List.

Ex. 1:

- Please rate a 5? And a few days later, makes a rant complaining why s/he gets really low rates, but STILL in the 4.0 range. Wow. That's Low. *roll eyes* And THREATENING to update less, and thinks that all his/her stories deserves 5. Not only is that rude, but it's SELFISH.

Ex. 2:

- I won't update till I get 25+ votes. Or, the more votes I get, the faster the updates. So, what if you get 25+ votes which are all ONE?! I seriously think you won't get on Highest Rated. And what if people don't rate? You'll stop writing?! What ever happened to writing for one's enjoyment? Not, writing-to-get-famous-and-to-get-on-the-lists. Readers aren't dumb you know.

Ex. 3:

- Asking for more than one part on the Highest Rated. Some say they'll write better if one more part gets up. Some just straight out ask it. Wow. What nerve.

It's a PRIVILEGE to be on Highest Rated. Not A RIGHT!

I don't mind the casual, "Please rate and message!" There's a please, and if the writer doesn't put a rant about no one rating and no one messaging, I'm fine. But isn't it good enough, people messaging you that they like your story? Do you have to be on Highest Rated to get 100% fulfillment? So let's say you do get on Highest Rated... what do you do next?

Quote, MidnightAngelicness: Actually, getting on the Highest Rated list can be annoying because you can be on top one day, and on the bottom next.

How true. Observe one series, it gets on top of the list, and the next day, it's not there anymore. Sometimes, it'll be in the bottom 10.
But come on admit it, I admit it, if you're writing a series of your own, and you see all these stories on Highest Rated, you must have thought at least twice, 'Why isn't mine there?' or 'My story's good enough to be there.'

If you've thought of the latter, what is GOOD ENOUGH? What IS good enough to be on that list? The story has to be good? Or the writer him/herself has to be a nice person?

Jealousy - an emotion experienced by one who perceives that another person is giving something that s/he wants.

It is normal for a human to experience jealousy in their life. What's abnormal, is if they don't.

And isn't it a weird feeling, you look around the recently added list, and you see this one story. And somehow... the next few weeks, you see that story on the Highest Rated List.

Doesn't it make you think, 'Why isn't my story on it too?'
But have you ever thought, maybe it's your TITLE. Because when you scroll through the recently added list, you only see the title. So it's the TITLE that catches the reader's attention. Now answer this honestly, which title catches your attention:

1. I'm a Girl...in an ALL BOY'S BOARDING SCHOOL?!?!
2. You, Harry Potter, and Draco Malfoy!(example only)

So, which catches your attention the most? Hard question... right...

How how the HELL does one quiz called SEX get on the List?! There are better series out there that could have that space, but that series with no content whatsoever, gets on it!

Oh, and if you think a plot is having the main character as a girl and fuck all the guys in the story,
THINK AGAIN!

It's harsh, but come on, you must've wondered the same thing.

Also, don't you think being on the Highest Rated is stereotypical? I mean... the list itself is so stereotypical. Everyone wants to be with friends with people on the Highest Rated, everyone wants to let people know that they're friends with people on Highest Rated. And all that shit. Also, people would do anything, well, a lot of things, for people on Highest Rated. Like, when someone on Highest Rated asks someone to make a banner for them, that person is MORE than willing.

But, let's change that. What if some unknown writer asks a person to make a banner for them, the person would be like... "Uh... who are you?"

Wow.

Now, to another subject. What do people here actually like to read? Right now, in the Highest Rated List, I see stories about Harry Potter Fanfiction, Band Fanfiction, Anime, and lastly, Original Stories (Vampires and Other)

But as you all must have noticed, Harry Potter Fanfictions are the most popular. I'm not flaming Harry Potter Fanfic authors. The original series itself is famous, it is expected there would be a lot of fanfictions about it. :)

So, does that mean you should write a Harry Potter fanfic? Yes, because as I said, it's very popular, No, because once again, it is popular. Many ideas have been used, and if you have a wide imagination, Harry Potter fanfics can limit you to only so much. Examples of such are:

1. Fatal Attraction..a Draco & you love story - by ako8
2. I HATE you Draco Malfoy!...I Think... - by ControlYourWorld
3. Out of Step -An Oliver Wood Story - by green-gremlin

AM I THE ONLY ONE THAT NOTICES ALMOST ALL THE FANFICS ARE ABOUT DRACO MALFOY!? And about 3/4 of them turn him into a softie?! Coincidence? Now, same thing goes with Band Fanfics. And if you want to write a Band Fanfic, I suggest you actually know and listen to the band, before you write about them. And about Harry Potter Fanics, READ THE DAMN BOOKS! And follow them, PAY RESPECT TO THE BOOK YOU GOT THE IDEA FROM!!*wink* Examples of Band Fanfics are:

1. Doing it the Hard Way.... (a new Gerard Way romance) - by Gee1truelove
2. |David Desrosiers| C'est Crazy - Merlot6
3. .Love Challenged Freedom To A Fist Fight.:||:.[Sebastien Lefebvre].:||:. - by FailureByDesignerJeans

Now. Original Stories. It is separated into two on the Highest Rated. The first one, Vampires. Examples of such are:

1. Confessions of a Vampire - by EternalVampire00
2. Lust & Obsession: A Vampire Story - by JenniferisHere
3. Lust for a Young Girl's Blood - by MissFreestyle

Ahh... no one can get enough of Vampires. Well, not many people can. The hot, lustful creatures that feed off weak minded girls with a tough exterior. Well, on most Vampire stories I've read. But currently, the most 'famous' vampire story on here is by MissFreestyle. Yes. You must know about her, or have heard her username before. There are only 11 parts to her story, and yet, the series has been picked 1000 times!!

Now, how is that? I mean, there are a lot of Vampire stories out there, but why is this so famous? I'm not flaming MissFreestyle, I love her work, but doesn't it make you think, why so many people love it? When there ARE other vampire series in Highest Rated? Why this series?

Comparison:
1. MissFreestyle has 11 quizzes, picked 1501 times.
2. JenniferisHere has 43 quizzes, picked 247 times!!

I'm in awe.

Now, back to Original Stories. The other category is Other. Examples of such are:

1. The Life of an Anti-Social - by BeatenByAnUglyStick
2. My Summer Fling With The Sex God - by HaveSomeProzac
3. I'm a Girl...in an ALL BOY'S BOARDING SCHOOL?!?! - by youandmeboth

Other because there are the "Would A... Fall for You" series too. If you've read these series listed above, they all have one thing in common.
comedy

Now... so, if you make a funny series, it'll be on Highest Rated? Is that true nowadays? Now... talking about one writer there... youandmeboth. You must have also heard of her of this username. Writer of the infamous "I'm a Girl...in an ALL BOY'S BOARDING SCHOOL?!?! ". Now this. This is shocking.

There are only 11 parts in this story and it's been picked MORE THAN 2000 TIMES. Wow. Some people here have to make 100 parts of their series to be picked 1000 times. But she only has ELEVEN. So once again... why do people love this series? This one series? I don't know of any other series this famous, if you do, feel free to message me. This story isn't perfect. Hell, no one's story is. But why is it THIS famous?

Why are some stories so famous, they have their readers sending them forceful messages to make them update? Their readers send harsh words to them for them to update? I've never had a series on Highest Rated, but from what I've observed from all the writers on there, they DO get messages like those sent to them. But I think... sending harsh messages to your favorite writer, will only let them postpone their writing.

Duh.

What I'm trying to say is:
What makes a story click?!

If a lot of people knew the answer, I'm sure there would be a lot more people on the List. Right?

Now, about MissFreestyle and Youandmeboth's series, I'm not being a biased fan. But nor am I being a biased flamer. I am thinking in a reader's point of view. What made these stories click? And why can't mine do the same thing? I admire those two writers, they have great talent, but still... I have this thought in the back of my head that keeps saying, 'Why can't mine get on the List too?'

Yes, I admit again. Jealousy. I'm not ashamed to admit it.

Well, generally, it's harder to get on the Highest Rated with an Original Story. First, because hey, you can't really find one anymore!! And two, IT JUST IS!!

So hopefully... this little note will make you think. Should I write about this and this? or Should I change my story to this? Inevitably, readers are very important. And if you want a famous story, you have to catch their attention. A LOT of readers' attention. So...

What are you going to write about?

In a way, it's unexplainable how some series manage to get on Highest Rated. They just do. But they had the same chance of getting on the list as you guys did. So just keep writing. :)

Hope you enjoyed reading this.
I'm not going to be one of those b*tches asking you to rate, if you rate, cool, but what I want, is if you guys can message me your responses with this post.
WHAT BITCHES!!
Finally!! Someone voiced this!
I don't care...
I am not ranting. I do respect all writers on Highest Rated, and those who want to get on it too. Just expressing my thoughts.
