Ode to the CoCa
Music is a big aspect of who I am. To say that I'm obsessive about it is an understatement, I breathe it. And I appreciate the mediums in which the wonderful scores and lyrics and tracks are presented to me. Case in point, Warped Tour.I know quite a few bands, more than the average listener, and that is probably in part of my memory skills. No matter. Warped is a melting pot (as is Coachella, but 200+ dollars is dream money that I would love to be able to have to have a chance to go...)that not only lets me check out the bands I've been wanting to see, but introduces me to other musicians that I have not been subjected to (For example, I Am Ghost). And this year, to my squealish chick delight, Coheed and Cambria are packing their bags to head on this tour.
The public has been subjected to singles, A Favor House Atlantic, Blood Red Summer, Welcome Home, The Suffering and-- if you recall "way back when"-- Devil in Jersey City. To which many of you probably uttered, "How the hell does that dude sing that high? Is he castrated?" My folks, no, he is not.
What many leisurely listeners may overlook is the detail in some of the lyrics. Not so much in the first three tracks listed, but Devil is a good example. "Scream loud, scream sayonara, oh oh oh, Sweet Josephine, will you f**k me back home?"
To those that aren't familiar, high-pitched singer Claudio Sanchez is also the writer of a comic book series that would come out with issues annually, detailing a storyline of an alternate universe in which two IRO-bots named Coheed and Cambria (just run with me on this) were given false memories only to be persuaded to believe that their offspring were carriers of a genetic armageddon. Mmm. What do the parents do? Why, kill the offspring of course. And Josephine is their eldest daughter.
Coheed and Cambria the band writes conceptual lyrics based on the storyline of this comic book series, detailing the life of Coheed and Cambria as well as their son Claudio and Coheed's brother (another IRO-bot) named Jesse. Throw in a gathering of naked blue angelics deemed Prise and you've got yourself some entertainment.
My love for comics also knows no bounds, and this is why I can barely contain myself in the excitement. CoCa is playing Warped.
SCORE!
