Rock Show Mini-Review
This is me. Do I scare you? :PHello, peoples. This weekend, Saturday the 29th I went to 3rd Rail Studios (lil rock club by my way). I heart that place, and don't get to go as often as I'd like. But it just so happens that my favorite Brooklyn band, When Distance Fails (and don't try to steal the name, they have a copyright) was playing. Woo hoo!
The bill went something like this:
Porcelain Sidewalk
The After Effect
When Distance Fails
Never Say Die
I think there were a couple other bands on the bill, but I had to leave early, so oh well.
Porcelain Sidewalk are a Queens band, so much love for the home town<3. They were good, though the vocals were a bit too low for me. I gave them two and a half stars. They have a good sound, though. Plus.
The After Effect I've actually seen before. I must say, they sounded much better than last I saw them. Joe, the lead singer/guitarist was ultra-friendly towards me, though. He sought me out before the show and kept talking to me @_@ jeebus. I appreciate it and all, and he introduced me to the band and his friends, but... I didn't like him.
Don't get me wrong, he gave me no reason to dislike him. But I was sick (I actually got sick after I arrived, how fucked up is that), and when I'm sick I tend to be slightly bitchy and extremely tempermental. That, and I was wearing headphones and it annoys me when people interrupt me when I'm listening to my music.
Either way, I'm a pretty good judge of character, and something just didn't resonate well with me.
Their performance was good nonetheless, though Nick is one of the most sedate guitarists I've ever seen, making him very boring to watch. Three stars.
When Distance Fails went on next <333 And of course, they kicked ass. They have a new Drummer, Chris and a new bassist, Anthony. And considering they'd had only one practice prior to the show, they did very well. I detected almost no errors their entire set. And of course, Hermes was the sweetheart he always is <3 Four and a half stars for them.
Unfortunately, I was feeling so horrible I felt I was going to pass out. The only way I was going to live until the show was over is if I got some coffee ASAP. But when I talked to Castro, he told me they'd stopped selling coffee two months prior. So I ended up going on a treck that spanned two avenues just to score a cup of weak, sub-par french vanilla cappuccino.
When I returned, Never Say Die was already halfway into their set. I was pleasantly surprised that the owner guy recognized me and so, didn't ask to see my stamp so I walked right in and reclaimed my spot. They were playing Elvis' "I Can't Help Falling In Love With You." Now most bands I've heard do an Elvis song sucked so much ass their teeth were brown. But these guys not only nailed it (atmosphere, tone, perfect.) they punked it out and rocked the house. I thoroughly enjoyed the remainder of their set, and bought their CD. Four stars.
I was too sick after that to stay, so I said bye to Hermes and WDF and left for home. Still, I have two pics to share for my trouble. Actually I have more, but I'm only putting two up.
This is Hermes with one of the Silent Hill posters he was giving to fans. I got one :P He gave it to me all personal-like.

He is so adorable. I defy you to say otherwise e__e
And this is the band onstage, during "Careless." That song rawks, and is a fan-faborite.

Anthony's cut off, but whatever I don't like him anyway. The one in the blue is Sean. Or actually, Sean's ass lol. He's cool peoples.
Hermes thanked me personally for showing up, etc. cuz I come to all their Brooklyn shows. He is SUCH a sweetie <3 Too bad I didn't really get to talk to him, Joe was literally monopolizing my time before the show. Geeze.
Anthony almost killed Hermes' Gibson! I was so pissed, I had to dive to save that baby I almost killed him goddamn. He just walked away like nothing and um whatever I'm high and sick and I have a fever XD So I'm gonna shut up now.
But anyway the show rawked, and I had the good fortune for once that NO ONE MOSHED!! I always get caught in the moshing and I hate it.
Hermes invited me to their next Third Rail show, though I'm gonna try and make it to their Battle of the Bands in Long Island this month. Well, I should be resting anyway so I'm off.
Hope you enjoyed this fucked-up girl's review, I tried my best to stay on topic XD WHich is hard right now lol. Next time I'll do better, I promise.
Later days, and stay loose.
