Grassangel's Journal

January 14, 2008

*pokes*

*is testing the waters*
So er... no, I haven't come back and I likely never will as I've matured and all that stuff so er...
This is just to tell people again, if you're wondering where I am, please go see the journal entry previous to this one.

If you really wish to contact me again (and believe me, some of you were awesome friends) please try emailing me or something.

So yeah, thanks.

I'm sorry.... I've been negligent. I've also been eaten.

As you very well know, I've been kind of.. not updating, nor have I actually been in contact with a lot of you for some time.

In some cases, it's mutual. You haven't been on (sometimes at all) and I got just a bit bored and I decided to expand my horizons.

And that's how I kind of strayed.

First it was fanfiction.net because I was craving high quality character-centric fanfics which weren't being fufilled here.
Then it jumped to gaiaonline.com, where I've kind of flourished and become a more outgoing internet type of person with all sorts of quirks and so forth.

Now, at that point in time I was still messaging you all and taking your quizzes.

But about a few months in I just didn't... I made occasional journal entries and read some stuff.
That's all.

But recently I've been eaten by Live Journal and Deviant Art.

LiveJournal has (possibly) made me a much better fangirl who's more in touch with the community.
Same with DeviantArt.

So while I love you all and have firm roots set in here, I have moved on to brighter and bigger pastures.
So, I remain loyal to those who have been wonderful friends to me on here.
Thanks.

So while I am NOT leaving, I will be absent and away. I will not delete any of my work and I will still check my c-box on my homepage.

Oh, of course, you can still keep in touch with me by many, many ways.
Let me count the ways:

My Gaia online account: Song_of_fire
Feel free to drop a PM to me. I'm here quite a lot, so you probably wn't be ignored.

My fanfiction.net account: White Butterfly
A lot of my fanfiction will be placed on here. (Even though I spend so much time on LJ nowadays)

My deviant art account: Grassangel
My art and stuff, and possibly writing, lives here. Feel free to drop me a note or a comment or even say something about my art.

My Livejournal account: grass_angel
Everything that so much as moves inside my head will most likely be posted here. Fanfiction, random thoughts, icons, you name it. I also have a rather large list of comms that I watch so I'll probably be reading those fics... ^_^;;

My EMAIL: song_of_storm_and_fire@hotmail.com
That will get you in touch with me, sooner or later. If I really really want a conversation with you, you'll get another email from me from my other, more personal email.

And that's it. You should be able to contact me somehow with that list.

NO, I will NEVER be getting a MySpace so don't even think about saying that I should.

So middle length, and thanks for the marshmallow fish!

A year since

It's been a year since I watched my first episode of Bleach.
And wow, what a year for anime it's been for me.

First off, I spent all of labour weekend watching Bleach last year. (This year I might watch the backlog of the English dub)
Then InuYasha was replaced with Gundam Seed and FullMetal Alchemist and Ghost in the shell.

Got obsessed with those for a while.

Started prowling for fanfics and writing them.

Started making anime wallpapers on theotaku.com

Library extended it's graphic novels section including more manga.
Library also had more anime.

Started listening to more anime music.
Started reading manga more often including FMA.

Got around to actually watching Bleach more often and spawned a cult at school.
Spawned more anime freaks at school by introducing them to FMA.

Got an LJ account and a Gaia online one. Am now completely surrounded by fanfic writers and fans.

I'm actually getting anime from the video store now.

Got some FMA CDs as a birthday present.

I now have a lot of fics under belt, and a couple more anime.

It's been a good year. I've also turned sixteen and gotten a laptop.

Spam 2! (A random fic)

"Lieutenant Riza Hawkeye?" Colonel Roy Mustang wandered into the centre of his command, hands clasped behind his back.
"Yes sir?" She looked up from setting down Black Hayate's water bowl, pushing on her knees to stand up. It was the lunch break and everyone was off to enjoy it. She had Hayate and other duties to see to though, so she stayed behind.
"I was having trouble remembering when the field exercises were to be observed. Could you-"
"Tomorrow, at two in the afternoon. There was a memorandum on your desk this morning sir." she reported, handing him another copy before picking up her bag. "Now, if you're in the office, can I please ask you to watch Hayate while I get lunch?"
"Wait." He stopped her before she walked out at the end of her sentence. "Here, take this." He handed her the bag that he had clasped in his hands, which Hawkeye had assumed contained his lunch. "It's for you."
"What? Lunch?" She took the bag carefully, weighing it with both hands. It was rather heavy and lumpy, not very much like a packed lunch at all.
"No."
"Something for Black Hayate?"
"No, just open it."
She sighed and opened the bag. She would have had to anyway, to figure the contents out, but she hadn't wanted to be told to do so.

Riza paused and stared at the object.
"It's a pineapple."
"Yes."
"A pineapple."
"Yes."
"Why a pineapple?"
Roy smiled belatedly. "I thought it would make a good present."
"Well," Riza took the pineapple out of the paper bag, "I suppose I could have it with some ice cream. Or chocolate."
"Chocolate makes it taste bitter you know." Roy bent down to pet Hayate as the dog ate it's lunch.
"Very well, I'll have it with some ice cream. And, um..." she put the pineapple back in the bag and looked at it. "Thank you for the gift sir. I appreciate it." She set the bag down on her desk."I need to get lunch. Good day sir." She saluted a goodbye and left the room, the door clicking shut behind her.
"Well," Roy glanced at Black Hayate, still kneeling down, "maybe I should have given her the flowers."

OMAKE

"Hey kid, what's that you're hiding." The older homunculus glared lazily at the latest addition to their family.
"Uh-" The younger, both as a homunculus and by looks, paused, looking guilty.
"Well, what is it." He glared more strongly, his junior shifting.
"Well, uh... I decided to get you a present." The purple eyes disappeared as the kid grinned and proudly offered a spiky leafed plant up for inspection.
"Huh?" An eyebrow quirked as the fruit was picked up by the leaves and peered at. "What is it?"
"A pineapple for you, Envy."
"Why, Wrath why? Why this?" Envy looked exasperated at the happily smiling, heel rocking homunculus as he held the pineapple as if it were a weapon.
"Because I thought you liked them. I mean, your hair is like the leaves and people say you are what you eat..." He grinned again but was just about to flee when Envy's expression suddenly changed.
He was about to shield his head with his arms as the puzzlement changed to a maniacal grin.
Envy burst out laughing. "Don't be ridiculous. Feed it to Gluttony. I don't like them at all. And," he tossed the fruit back, "learn what a pineapple means before you go around giving them to people."

Spam (A treatise on long hair) [Or at least part of one]

(There are supposed to be tabs but I don't know how to on here....)

A treatise on long hair.

a) Always expect to take better care of you hair than anyone else does
i. As a result, expect your hair care products to take up half the bathroom
1. As a result, expect others living in the house hold to complain of the number of products in said bathroom.
2. Expect them to use your haircare products BECAUSE they take up half the bathroom
ii. As a result, expect that a large amount of the combs and brushes lying about are yours
1. A large number of them will have bristles or teeth missing BECAUSE of your hair.
2. They will have a mixture of hair caught in them because everyone else uses them for their hair.
3. People will complain about the number of them
4. A large number will be broken.
iii. There will be a pile of hairties and hairclips
1. Expect them to get lost
iv. You take more time in the shower
1. People will yell at you because of it
2. You'll have to cut your shower short
3. If you get cut off halfway through, slippery conditioner water will drip down your back.
4. Which means you'll probably get the last slot.

b) Expect moulting
i. Expect large mounds of hair to amass in room corners
1. Expect people to complain
2. Expect people to complain when vacuuming
3. Expect people to roll these mounds into projectiles
ii. Expect furballs because of said moulting
iii. Expect drains to be clogged
iv. Expect complaining
v. Expect people to be peeling off your hair off their clothes
vi. Expect to peel of hair from YOUR clothes
c) People will want to fiddle/play with hair

i. Tugging and pulling will ensue
ii. As will tangling and knotting
1. But expect a nice head massage after all the tangles have been removed.
iii. People will give you new hair styles
iv. People will brush your hair for you

d) You will attract static
i. Fluff will attach to your hair
1. And clog up your hairbrush
ii. People will comb your hair and get a shock
iii. You will get a shock when you touch people

Amazin revelations about Bleach ep 4

This is the episode that I've watched about sixteen times, and about fifteen of them the Japanese version. However it's now at the sixteenth (or maybe twentieth..) viewing of it IN ENGLISH, that I decide to have revelations.
It's also a commentary on how I don't like the English voices as much as the Japanese ones. (Still want to hear Ishida's though and most of Sereitei's before I make a decision )

Spoilers ahead! But you may only be able to pick up on them if you know them already.

Now I realise why Ichigo can see the reiraku in the earlier episodes and not later. It's because he's using Rukia's fully developed powers and not his own not-really developed ones.
All because of the translated version of what Rukia said in episode 4.
"Can it be he's really progressed this far as a soul reaper?"
No it's not. It's only because he's using your powers.

Also, Karin's voice IS REALLY off for most of that episode. The first few bits, yes, but not otherwise. I think it was everyone though, not just her. The only one that I really liked was Keigo's… Not even Shibata's or Isshin's T_T.
NOOO!! Urahara's voice is HORRID. So so so horrid. *weeps in a corner*
I'm talking English dub here, not the original English.

On another note, has anyone else noticed in the manga that Ichigo and Tatsuki share a similar shaped pin? Well, neither did I until someone on LJ wrote a fic about it.
And I do believe that Karin is better at sense reiraku than Ichigo is. I mean she managed to find Chad when she was sick!

I want to know if Vic Mignonga will be taking part in the dub later on. I'm perfectly fine if he is, I just HOPE he doesn't get to do Hitsugaya. He shouldn't take another of Romi Paku's roles.
Hopefully it'll just be a random that we've never heard of.

Random dream that happened a week ago

This was actually two dreams, but I figure the second one is just a tad personal as well as a bit insulting as to the revelation at the end.

This one was about Bleach (and Naruto)

Naruto had just been released (the anime; which it has) and so had the first Bleach manga.
But somehow, the manga had superseded the anime by a very large margin.

As in Wellington was covered with wall and window decals of Ichigo and his sword, there were ginormous billboards everywhere and everyone knew what those things were about. Even the city council (they were the one who put up all the decals and stuff) the city council were even considering callling it the centre/home of Bleach.
I also got the funny feeling that I had somehow spread it….
But other than that it had the various alterdream Wellington places I knew, like the spaghetti place and the longer than real life uphill roads as well as the contorted bay roads and wharf.

Pretty much normal aside from the Bleachness. Which was pretty cool.

Pure spam

No, I'm not talking about the meat product.
I just want to get my journal posts up to a reasonable number so I can have a hundred posts on my birthday.

I suppose I could go ahead and go cut and paste something from my writing.

But that will be in anouther post.

Because I have 94 journal entries and only two/one day before my birthday.

And I will make that hundredth on it.

Wheee!! Yay!

On the other news, I attended a bleachathon.
Yay!

Numbering these things seems like one of those odd LJ things...
Oh well. I want to be more active on LiveJournal.

And we found a solution to the mini palm tree.
I'ma gonna copyright it...

Riza Hawkeye's cure guide

This is a silly little thing that I wrote and came up with randomly. It's based off a couple of lines in a fanfiction I wrote which implies that Riza Hawkeye will recommend Paracetamol, hot tea, a hot water bottle, sleep, a warm shower and water to cure everything.
So here is her guide on how to use these to cure anything. (Suggestions for additions always welcome)

Hangovers
Paracetamol to get rid of the headache
Water and tea to get the alcohol out of your system
Warm shower, should wake you up or at least get you feeling better
Sleep right after getting yourself drunk

Stomach ache
Tea or water should calm the stomach
Paracetamol to get rid of the pain (if needed)
Hot water bottle or a warm shower helps relax the stomach
Sleep is also helpful

Headache
Eat something
A glass of water
Sleep
Or if the pain is really bad paracetamol

Diarrhea
Water, plenty of it
Sleep
Hot water bottle

Cold
Sleep
Hot water bottle
Tea

Fever
Sleep (lots)
Water
Shower if you're up to it
Hot water bottle if you feel like it

A thesis on style

This was written to emphasize the point of style in writing. It's only a small bit, but I hope it encourages other aspiring writers out there to develop a style and to incorporate it in their writing.

But an important part of having a good story is the style you write it in. If it's a good style then it becomes fabulous, if it's just writing then it flops.
Plus, style is your voice coming through the words. Style means it's YOUR writing, and not just a few words mushed together.
Style can even make the worst plotline more enjoyable. Without style, stories are just a couple hundred words put together to make sense. The plot may be amazing, but if it isn't delivered correctly, without a memorable style, it'll just be another mundane story.
Style makes the story, style makes it great.

An author needs style to make their point get across.
Do you ever get told to deliver a speech in front of your class? Do you remember how people stood up and said theirs? Did some just speak and ramble on? Did some speak passionately and strongly?
Style is the stuff used by those people who speak strongly, it gets their ideas across more vibrantly. It is the mighty fist of delivery.

*is getting spoiled*

I am so getting spoiled by quality fanfictions that are posted around the place. I keep finding better places to read stuff, with better quality and better writing.
So yes, I'm getting spoiled by the quality on things like LJ and Touka Koukan.

The reading spread goes something like this:
FFnet: Moderately good general fanfictions
LJ: Good general and romance fanfictions
Touka koukan: Great FMA fanfictions <333333
Quizilla: Mediocre fanfictions

So it's obvious where I'll be spending most of my time. LJ and TK.

For those of you who want a link to Touka, jut click on that little link. Otherwise you should know where LiveJournal is and fanfiction.net is.

Oh a Touka has everything from G rated stuff to NC-17. The link is to the page that gives you a nifty reminder of this.
You enter at your own risk, but everything is clearly labeled as to rating and pairing, as well as a summary.
So you should know better for some of them.

But they have AlxRiza!!! Or at least a passing resemblance to it. -.-
And EdxRose... Plus GluttonyXLust, HavocxWinry. All unfortunately secondary pairings....

Great. My enthusiasm has been killed.
Still, it has a hefty amount of Royai. And *squee* it still has all those other pairings. Just no IzumixSig or HoenheimxTrisha... Which are INCREDIBLY hard to find might I add.

So point and I shall see.

Touka still rules though.

Well, this is weird

And really odd. I somehow found a Christian anime site. Well, it was a forum with lists and stuff.

It had age ratings for everything... Most of which were 11+ And some of the ratings were a bit out of it.

But I only looked at two.
And there was even a rating thing for bad religion.

I just find this weird.

And I'm sitting here stunned.

EDIT: I think the reviewers are more otaku than Christian. I saw FMA being rated as 14+, younger than what Cartoon Network rated it.
But then again, they did have a fairly unique view on the religion in it. When did Ed suddenly change his idea towards religion? He only thinks he should right his wrongs. (read: sins) But I suppose it's all that talk of sins and correcting them
Oh and I think they got a Hawkeye moment mixed up... They listed her stepping out of a shower in the anime, but that happens in the manga.....

They even gave a mild rating for Bleach. (Nothing more than Cartoon Network)
Though on some other anime they did give a stricter rating...

I suppose religion is like being a fangirl, you desparetly seek out what you love. (Like how yaoi fangirls/ any type of shipper analyzes any situation and seeks the connections)
And yes, I am guilty of being a fangirl. And a science geek.

Oh and you should all look under the SD gundam entry. It's hilarious in it's brevity.

Thoughts on the Japanese naming system

It just struck me, coming home from camp, how restrictive family naming systems are in English. If you are referring to a sibling you always say their name, you cant say brother or anything, you have to refer to them by name regardless of who you are talking to, parent or friend.
But in Japanese, you can use onii-chan/san or imouto-chan or whatever OR their name. You have a lot more options and more variety.

So, in other words; English is a sucky language for family based terms.
As well as collective nouns and adjectives. Like youse and stuff like that.

Ah, the intricacy and stupidities of the English language. I still love New Zealandish though. Oh the kapais and kettles, OEs and number nine wire.
It's still on the sucky side though.

Damn documentaries....

Grrr....

Society may now be changing to be pessimistic, but the people who make documentaries sure aren't.

Well, aside from film documentaries... Those are the exception. Because stuff like 'An Inconvenient Truth' is actually good.

But otherwise, the stuff you see on TV, whether it be about politics or killing or animals, IT ALWAYS ENDS WITH A POSITIVE NOTE.

I just find it infuriating. Especially when said documentary is about poison and killing people.

GRRR...

Maybe this is why I sometimes write angsty stuff and sometimes deathfics.

Because this stuff is irritating!! *pokes Discovery channel*

EDIT: OKAY I GET THE POINT QUIZILLA. APPARENTLY YOU DON'T LIKE PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT DOCUMENTARIES!!!!!! *storms off in a fury*

Now there's the catch

I now find TV to be absolutly boring. Or at least all the stuff that's on at midnight... But I've already known that for two years now.
It's only really getting through to me now though.

Sad thing is though, all my anime is on at that time. It really sucks, but then I think of all the books I could be reading, all the writing I need to do, all the art I need to do.
And all the people I need to talk to.

So maybe the TV ain't so intelligent anymore.
And the internet is.

The news, Mythbusters and a select few anime still rock though.

<<... Yes. I watch the news. It's interesting.

The mini-palm tree

Well, I want to tell you about it... Not show it too you otherwise people will steal the idea from me and claim it as theirs... <_< >_>

So, the mini-palm tree is a creation by me. It goes on many weird adventures and does extraordinary and ordinary things.
It has spawn. And it has taken my school over by storm.

And that's all you're gonna get from me!

Rainbow socks

"Ishi-ri, do you like my socks?" Inoue Orihime swung one of her otherwise bare legs for him to inspect.
"Well," Ishida Uryuu stopped halfway though knotting his tie, "it's is quite a marvel how they can manage to mass produce such a complex garment."
She frowned slightly. "I asked you whether you liked them or not Ishi-ri. And if they are so complex, then why can they make this so easily?" She pulled dubiously at the straps of her bra.
He blushed behind his hand as he pushed the bridge of his glasses up. "Socks don't have sizes. Your bra on the other hand-" He flushed and turned around to finish knotting his tie.
"What other hand?!" Orihime whined at him.
"You do know the size of it right?" He looked at her, his cheeks flushing brightly.
"No," she said cheerfully, "I cut the tags off because they're irritating. Though it does make shopping difficult..." Her train of thought floated away.
"'Hime." Uryuu said her name so she'd pay attention, "because they have sizes they can be made to fit better. With socks, it's one size fits all."
"But socks are stretchy. They don't need sizes." She spontaneously stopped swinging her feet and stood up to pull her top on.
"Uh, 'Hime?" He almost cringed as he watched her pull the button-up shirt over her head and somehow wiggle into it.
"What?" Amazingly, none of the buttons had popped off her shirt as she turned to face him.
"You should change out of them. Your socks." He nodded toward them as he bent to retrieve his shoes.
"I want to leave them on for a while longer. I like them." She wiggled her toes before using a foot to pick up one of his shoes and chuck it at him.
"Don't get them confiscated though. You know how strict Kagine-sensei is about following school dress code."
"What if," she picked up the grey socks in question, "I put them on over?" She wiggled them in front of his face, flicking them out.
"Orihime, please. Not in front of my face." Ishida back-pedalled a bit, the grey socks somewhat menacing when only a few centimetres in front of his face. They were removed to be replaced with Orihime's eyes staring up at him.
"You're evading my questions today."
"Um, what was the question again?" Uryuu didn't recall her asking a question in the last few minutes.
Orihime skipped back and held out the socks again before answering, smiling broadly. "Should I wear these socks over my rainbow ones!"
Uryuu sighed before pushing her hands down. "You know the quality of the school socks are low. The dye'll rub off onto your socks and the dye will rub off and stain them and-" he got cut off by Orihime interrupting.
"See? You do like them" she smiled broadly into his face before throwing her arms around him, her socks still in hand. "You don't want them to get dirty." She jumped excitedly.
Uryuu let out a strangled sound as Orihime bounced up and down around his neck. "No," he managed to squeeze out, "I just don't want you to loose their brightness."
She stopped and pouted up at him.
"No, you do care." She leant up and pecked him on the forehead before springing away and stripping the rainbow toe socks off her feet. "Come on!" She hopped around pulling the grey socks on and getting their bags and shoes, "otherwise we'll be late for school! And don't forget lunch!" She rushed to the door to put her shoes on, leaving a rather bewildered Ishida Uryuu standing there.

Wow. Almost a year of journal entries...

It's been almost a year since I started writing here!

Which is WHY I'm posting two a day.

It's so I can get a hundred by my birthday.
I'm not sure how many of you remember my first post.
But it was on my birthday.

So I am determined to have a hundred entries by then.

So many double entries await!!

Oh, and DawnD, you need to know you didn't nescessarily convert me to politics.
Ya just influenced me. *big grin*

NOTICE!!

I just realised (as I posted that last entry) that this journal has become a drabble dump.

Which is perfectly fine as journal entries are now listed under creations, and all my major stuff (like series) will still be published as a proper story.

I just thought I'd let you know because I'm kind of nice like that.
