Physical Therapy Jobs: Lending that Helping Hand
A job of a physical therapist is to respond to a patient that has been in an accident. They aid them and try to restore them to their former condition. Athletes are one of the most common patients in this area as they are very much prone to injuries cause by their sport. A number of times, patients are in a disabling or serious condition, but of course not that serious that the patient can’t recover again. The usual injuries that are encountered in physical therapy jobs are fractures, arthritis, sprains, amputations, spine injuries, cerebral palsy and many more. As you can observe, majority of the injuries involved are physically caused and are related to the skeletal system. They are also involved in various fields in medicine such as dentists, nurses, audiologist and many more depending on the nature of the injury. Physical therapy jobs also involve fields not related to medicine; social working and psychology to name a few.
Physical therapy jobs are usually held on private offices, hospitals and clinics. There are also times that these jobs will be conducted on the patient’s home. One of the characteristics that a physical therapist should posses is an amount of body strength as these jobs require them to assist patients in doing exercises. They are also involved in a lot of physical activities. They usually kneel, bend, stoop, crouch or lift the patients and equipments.
Being a physical therapist involves spending a lot of time in clinics and hospitals. It also requires a great amount of patience and socialization to be effective. In a survey conducted by a university in the US, a big chunk of PT’s that were interviewed were very much happy with their jobs. Though it involves a lot of stress, both physical and emotional, physical therapy jobs are certainly worth it.
